I just went into a ridiculously overpriced toy/game store. $50 for Majora's Mask. $28 for GBA Pokemon. $100 for an NES. Thanks but not thanks.

Some games like I believe super mario RPG sell for a few hundred dollars. Its crazy

Those prices don't sound that high, tbh. A quick ebay search seems like those prices are pretty accurate. If you want a NES you probably should get one of those newer third party consoles, looks like it's around $50. http://www.nintendosforsale.com/NES-and-SNES-Combo-Console-FC-Twin-p/12.htm?gclid=Cj0KEQjwtvihBRCd8fyrtfHRlJEBEiQAQcubtEgKrJPt6HCxCa1s_dhv4WfaXyooSoFy8JkwAOGIvX0aAkW98P8HAQ

Nah I don't want an NES. Majora's Mask goes for about $30-$35 on ebay and GBA Pokemon games go for about $20.

A few years ago I achieved my lifelong dream of owning a copy of Soul Blazer for the SNES. Walked into a used game shop for the first time looking for a new copy of Disgaea for the PS2. Saw Soul Blazer behind the counter for $20, I believe. I bought it immediately. On eBay it seems to range from $80 to $200. I guess the moral of the story is that eBay sucks? I don't buy anything there, so take my opinion with a large cube of salt.

But stuff is usually cheaper online than in physical stores, $50 and $28 still sound like reasonable prices to me if that's how expensive they are online.

I know of a couple other places whose prices are compareable to those on ebay which is how it should be considering I could place an order for any given item whenever and wherever I want.

Can you expound on this? Generally speaking, people who observe the law closely enough to obtain a concealed carry permit are not the type to make death threats nor to act upon them. In fact, if the death threat was legitimate then the presence of CCWs would be desirable. I find it sad and scary that a woman thinks her fears are sufficient grounds to usurp federal and state constitutional protections.

The sad part is people making (multi-)death threats over a feminist speaker going to give a talk in a university.

The specific stance of the State of Utah on the matter is more complex than sad. And not a subject that I want to touch with a ten-foot pole. Not like I could from the other side of the Ocean, anyway.

You're paying a premium to have it now, not pay shipping, for being able to see the product before hand, and (most likely) it being easier to return it to the store. It's a lot more expensive and you reach a lot fewer people having a brick and mortar store than having an online one.

I've seen places where you can buy a NES online for $30-$40.

Yes but nowadays shipping is quick and sometimes free and the product is usually guarenteed. I understand the expenses of having a physical store but if you're buying games for what they're going for on ebay and marking them up $15 you're not going to sell them anytime soon. They should be buying them for $15 less than the ebay price and selling them at that price or maybe $5 more than that.

I guess this is RSP but singling out "her fears" here strikes me as a highly biased viewpoint. I think most reasonable people would be afraid for their safety in a situation where they receive specific death threats. I can see that there's a reasonable argument to be had about whether specific death threats are sufficient justification for banning firearms in a venue, as long as we're clear that the death threats themselves are the problem, not the fear they cause.

By what magic means do you propose stores acquire games at prices cheaper than anyone will sell them? (we are talking about used goods here, correct?)

The magic of parents selling their kid's old games, the magic of basic negotiating skills, the magic of immediate payoff, etc.

A store that follows your pricing strategy, btw, will be a store that goes out of business. Simply not enough profit left in such a supply.

Well I'm not talking a 100% video game store. Usually record shops also sells video games as wella s DVDs and blue-rays and some toy stores also sell video games. I agree there's not enough meat on the bone to make a lot on video games alone unless you specialize in rare games.

Don't worry. Neither have I. I just a) work in a brick-and-mortar store now and b) grew up in a home where the "family business" involved flea markets, toy shows, antique malls, and related resale environments.
