Rules question with more players
« on: June 13, 2014, 03:09:54 am »

So this is a pretty basic question but I can't seem to find an actual answer for it. for 2-3 players I believe it takes 3 piles to empty for the game to end. My question is how many does it take for 4 players? I'm pretty sure players 5-6 is 4 piles out will end the game but I don't know how many for 4.

My issue is that searching online for a bit I for places that said with 4 players it takes 4 piles to empty. The problem is in the rules that we got from the game it says 4 players is 3 pile outs. So I'm slightly confused.

The rules have the final say.  It's 3 piles for 4 players.

Perfect thanks. I guess I also thought it was 4 as games seem to end so fast with 4 people. Super hard for me to get a engine or something going before we just pile out.

Keep in mind that 3-piles was decided in the rules for game duration. If your group prefers 4, play that way.

yeah, if you play IRL you can always house-rule certain things.  However, by the rules it would be 3 piles

Man. I had four strips of bacon yesterday. Was one automatically undercooked, one automatically overcooked? No, let's put a stop to that right here, all four strips were excellent.

This should be viewed as a plus. You don't sit around waiting for three other people to play dozens of cards a turn.

Hmm I guess it could be a plus. But i've found that I have won many games by just buying a single province or colony and then emptying out a pile. Although I'm playing with people who are very knew to the game so maybe thats why it keeps happening.

It's also pretty normal in 2-player games.

Yep, this is a problem with the players rather than the rules.
If you do change it to 4 piles though, they wont get better at the proper three pile engine very quickly

I believe with five or more players in a game, the three-pile rule changes to four piles, no?

How will you be able to buy Golem then?

So then, Play Highway instead. Or play Princess and pay 2P. Or play Quarry and play 1P more.

I guess I also thought it was 4 as games seem to end so fast with 4 people. Super hard for me to get a engine or something going before we just pile out.

But... but.. that's the BEST way to win a game of Dominion!! Honestly. But yeah, you often empty piles with new players.
