Saboteur is probably pretty bad as well.

That would still go in the "slightly helpful" pile, together with Scout and Feast. I think Thief and Pirate Ship would go in the "would rather not play them" pile.

I mean, BM-Rats will still beat BM-Confusion since in the endgame it might be correct to play rats sometimes.

Yeah, I think I agree.  I wonder if Scout would be preferable to Saboteur in BM.

Because it hurts your economy early on, and eats up hand space in the late game once it's done its work.

It's a great engine card (clears your copper whilst not completely losing out on money) but if you're aiming fgor big money, it quickly starts either eating your good treasure or being unplayable.

Loan doesn't force you to trash, so you can play it without risk of trashing your good treasure.  At worst, it makes you skip that treasure for a shuffle.  By the time it's doing that consistently, it's already cleaned out most of your Copper and allowed you to cycle to your good treasure more often.  Loan isn't amazing and it's certainly much better for an engine, but it's not horrible.

I'm actually somewhat curious about the relative performance of BM+Abandoned Mine, BM+Ruined Library and BM+Survivors.

RL > AM is kind of obvious, but where does Survivors belong?

Well, maybe not. Let it just discard with extreme prejudice while we're not yet greening and discard green, but not $2 upwards of treasure while we're greening.

Assuming you have to buy a copy of that card when you have the opportunity, but don't buy more than one or two, and assuming you always have to play that card, I would say : Rats, King's court and University
