Gaming!  How will we ever finish the impromptu Dominion: Enterprise tournament otherwise?

Man, the pressure's on to come up with a few more cards to round out the set.

No better way to playtest!

Also does anyone want to split a hotel room?

I will most likely be getting a hotel, so I'm interested.

People want more than a one-day meetup? I mean, there's a Saturday board game group on the Northside we could also go to. Or whatever else people want to do, I'm just trying to organize what is the most popular - do people want a two-day event?

The way your initial post was phrased, I (and apparently some others) read it as a two-day event. As Twistedarcher said, it makes more sense to travel further for a longer event. Coming from Minnesota, I would definitely prefer a two-day event.

Another advantage of two days is that people can still participate even if they can only make one of the two days. It's not a super-formal event. Also, the rest of my family probably won't want to hang out gaming for 6 hours straight on either day, so for me two days means I can get more gaming in without a marathon session.

By the way, does Cat & Mouse have a diaper-change station?

Any chance of a finalized date soon? My mother-in-law is coming to visit sometime during this span, and I'd like to know which weekend she shouldn't come.

Will try to nail this down tomorrow at work. It gets trickier to pair a Saturday and Sunday together, but we can do it (for most weekends one of the days is wrecked and the other golden, or both are pretty terrible, trying to suss out a happy medium).

Cat & Mouse does not have a diaper-changing station, though we do have a public bathroom.

Saturday is definitely on then, we'll "crash" a local Euro-gaming meetup that also runs 11-5 on Saturdays. I've reached out to them to let them know we're coming (sometime).

The meetup will be July 12-13. This works for literally everyone who sent in availability except for one and is even the "ideal" time for a few people. The twist is I may have to work on Saturday, in which case I'd need a volunteer to help out that day.

On Saturday, we will be joining the Chicago Euro Boardgamers (also from 11-5) at the Mystic Celt restaurant and bar, steps from the Southport Brown Line. Full directions will follow later. After that, we've got options. We can adjourn to Guthrie's, a board-game focused bar within walking distance (too small to fit us + patrons, hence it wasn't an option for the original location but should work if some people go home/back to hotels or such), or even to my apartment (if people aren't creeped out by the concept and we'd fit; I've got a fenced-in backyard and pro-gaming roommates), or people can just head home, or whatever.

Sunday will be at Cat & Mouse as previously announced.

I'm going to see if I can work out some cool stuff with C&M for Sunday.

Always taking suggestions on what people want for this meetup!

except for jsh357

NOOOOOOO!!!! The guy who was most enthused about playtesting!

Well, should still be fun. Thanks again, Voltaire, for setting this up. In addition to Dominion, I will try to bring

Gauntlet of Fools
Infiltration
The Dwarf King
Ghooost!
Piņa Pirata
Kingdom Builder (a bit bulkier, but I might be able to squeeze it in
Greed (if it has arrived by then)

What kind of help are you looking for regarding Saturday?

What kind of help are you looking for regarding Saturday?

Basically someone who can guarantee they can be there from 11-5, who can contact the regular hosts the day-of* (since we may be bringing ~12 people to a pre-existing ~30-person event), be the point-of-contact for anyone lost/needing directions, that sort of thing if I end up working Saturday.

I'll get a Google Doc going soon of what people are bringing/what demos C&M has we can play.

*I'm in touch with them now, I just mean at the start of the actual meetup

Approximately how many attendees are we expecting? I may influence how many games I try to port to Chicago.

Assuming I am still going, I will definitely bring Dominion, can also bring: Innovation (pre-Cities expansions), Saboteur/2, uh, that's about all I have that's interesting I guess.

The date does not rule out going entirely for me, I just need to make sure of some things.

At the moment, I'd guess we'll have about 10 people. (We have 13 RSVP'd, but the odds say some of them will have other things come up)

Saturday will have plenty of games already there, and Sunday will too. Plus, I can bring my own games - biking them a few blocks is easier than others loading them into cars or flying with them. I'll get that doc up soon, so nobody has to lug stuff we already have.

Excellent, that sounds like a good size for this type of get-together.

Cool, I should be there barring a last minute work trip coming up.

My collection (I can bring all of them -- Adam we have a decent amount of overlap, so we can maybe coordinate who brings what so we have less games)

Hanabi
Agricola
Through the Ages
7 Wonders
Netrunner (only the basic decks)
Memoir 44
Dominion
Seaside
Suburbia
Zen Garden
Love Letter
Paperback

LastFootnote, I am really looking forward to playing the Dwarf King.

Here's a handy google doc to add what you're bringing. If you have requests, you can add them too.

AdamH, are you really planning on bringing all of that?  :o

Looks like I am going.  Just need to arrange the flight/hotel.

Any recommendations on hotels good for the locations?  Special rates?
My itinerary for this is going to be extremely tight. (will have to leave Sunday on the dot!)

I'll probably be in, if I can find someone to drive with from Denver (possibly have an IRL friend that could be interested).

edit: added games I could bring to the spreadsheet

Hotels in Chicago are crazy $$$. Will you be driving or flying?  Depending on the amount of time you're willing to spend getting into the city (and your comfort learning a foreign transit system), you could get a better deal saying in a suburb and taking a METRA downtown. Both locations are extremely easy to get to from downtown (the Loop).

Sunday is incredibly easy to get to from O'Hare on public transit. Saturday is trickier and will require a transfer no matter what, but isn't crazy.

Other Chicagoans chime in if you have thoughts. I am biased as a non-car owner/biker.

I would be flying in, probably leaving Charlotte and arriving at O'Hare around 9 am there Saturday.  I unfortunately do not have the freedom to come for three days.  Note: have not yet committed to anything, so if it's looking impossible I can back out fine.

Well, it'd take about an hour to use public transit to get from O'Hare to the Saturday meetup (get on the train in O'Hare, transfer to a bus) and cost ~$6. The good news is leaving Sunday would be a piece of cake (get on the train blocks from the store, get off the train literally in O'Hare), taking about 30 minutes and cost $~2.

Of course taxis cost way more, but are also readily available.

The trick would be where you spend Saturday night. There are definitely hotels in the area, I just don't know your price range.
