Request: Workshop Gardens

I didn't think Workshop Gardens required an article, but apprently it does, because I lost while playing it in a nonmirror against a deck with multiple bureacrats.  I see the counter relationship there, but I wonder if I was playing Workshop/Gardens suboptimally for a nonmirror scenario.

How many workshops? When do you start Gardens? If village is there, is it worth getting?  Should you always pile Gardens/Estates/Workshops?  Can you transition to slog in the nonmirror?

Workshop/Gardens is not really great. It is really really worse than Ironworks/Gardens. I am sorry that I cannot really reply on the precise question, but I just wanted to share my experience with WS/Gardens, since I have lost trying to use it even against bots going for Provinces and contesting some Gardens.

I don't think it deserves it's own article, honestly. It's not strong enough to really be it's own thing.

Well, I think it's fine to have a wiki article focused on its historical significance.

Actually in multiplayer workshop/gardens is still a thing. There are 12 gardens in the supply and that's potentially a lot of points. If more than one player goes for it then the three pile ending is fast enough to be very a serious problem. There's plenty of defense against a variety of attacks.

If you want to find the best mirror play (2 player) we could hold a simulation contest. We haven't done one of those for a while and I'm guessing the results for this one will surprise a few people who haven't looked into it before.

Yeah, Workshop/Gardens just does not cut it anymore.  Not too long ago, I played a guy who went for this and I went for Squire/Gardens just to see if it was better.  Protip: it is, by a lot.

I believe that ignoring Bureaucrat in an alt-VP slog is almost always a huge mistake. It's where the card is at its best.

If your opponent is not going Gardens, the simple answer is: get all the Workshops, then all the Gardens, then all the Estates.

Unfortunately, as everyone has mentioned, Workshop+Gardens isn't all that good, for 2 reasons:
1. There are a lot of better enablers that allow you to also afford Duchies.
2. There are a lot of engines that kick in fast enough to catch up before you can pile out.

3) Decent big money with some endgame denial (buy gardens instead of duchies after 2 provices) also beat it

Lespeutere beat me in our gokodom game going WS/gardens :( I would've probably won if I'd just gone Council Room BM, but I got all distracted by university and upgrade and I lost.
