You have no chance to survive make your time.

(Scary thought: this is old enough (15 years) to qualify as an age check.  "Mom, what's this All Your Base meme about?" "Go ask your dad.  Or Google it yourself.")

Oh god, I think this is older than some of the regular posters here.  I think this was the first big internet meme for me, after maybe hampster dance and badger badger badger.

I had already played Bloodrealms before seeing the ad.  Its one of the worse flash ccgs I've played.  The use of large numbers is a big turn off to me, having a 130/500 monster instead of a game with 1/3s in stuff is just more painful for little gain.

When I first saw this thread I thought there would be ads during the game. Yikes. Glad to see that isn't the case.

I've seen once kids playing this in a game store. Each player had a calculator next to him and used it more or less all the time.

Kids these days, can't do simple math in their heads.

Unless, I return them to the supply with Ambassador. Although, I must admit $3 is quite the bargain!!! That's like a 25% discount!

That's not even the beginning of the design flaws in Yu Gi Oh.

But yeah, Yu-Gi-Oh is a good example of numbers being too large and really increasing the noise to signal ratio.  Even when you slice off the trailing 0's you have stuff like 19/17.  (actually, I think stuff like 19.5/15.5 was going on, but I'm not 100% on that so I'll make the charitable assumption)

I always found the big numbers in WoW interesting.  You start out at level 1, you're hitting things for 3 and 5 per hit.  Level 60, you're routinely doing 1000 with your hardest-hitting stuff.  Level 90, oh look, another 6-digit crit, yawn.

Disgaea had the largest numbers of any game I'd played before Cookie Clicker.
Cookie Clicker had the largest numbers of any game I'd played before Sandcastle Builder. In sandcastle builder numbers go up to ~10^308, the maximal double precision floating point number. After you reach that, you reach "infinite". Then there are new recourses which you can start building up.

The biggest number I encountered was in a Magic Puzzle we made up. It goes like this: select 20 cards, which you will divide in 2 decks of 10. 2 players play a game, and you make every decision there is to make and decide the outcome of everything that is up to fate (shuffling, coin flipping, ...). When the game ends, the number of lives of either player is your score.
Special restriction: When someone else comes along and he is given the same 20 cards and the same powers, there has to be a score he cannot reach.

We started out with scores like 100, then after a day 1000000, then 10^100, then 10^(10^100), then some numbers I just couldn't grasp anymore...

That is very true. Although at larger tournaments calculators aren't allowed, and people keep track by pen and paper. I use my phone when playing Spoils casualy. That game has numbers that are pretty similar to MTG. It's not because I have a hard time counting stuff. It's because I think it's less of a hassle than using papers that fill up and I have to toss them away. Also, it's easier for my opponent to keep track of my life as well.

Plus, if you do use calculators then the temptation to write 5318008 would be too much surely.....
