Still works fine for me.

Have you tried signing out, then back in?
I never sign out? But I did close and re-open the tab earlier.
Never signing out. Hmm, the thought never occurred to me.

Tech question: what does Goko use to know you're still signed in? Cookies, or a server side sessions? If it's a server side session, then wouldn't players who don't sign out clutter the system a bit?

Tech answer: Note that that's not an either-or scenario. In order for server-side session to function, there needs to also be a client-side cookie (or a session id stored in the URL instead of a cookie; but that's not common). The information in the cookie is what tells the server-side which session is being accessed.

In terms of the server getting cluttered; this shouldn't really be an issue with session. There's multiple ways to store the session information on the server-side, but no matter how its done, I haven't encountered an issue with the server getting clogged up with sessions; having build websites that are accessed by thousands of people each day. And sessions usually have an expiration that gets renewed each time you request new data from the server; even a system that lets you stay logged in when you close your browser will be using a different session each time you open a new browser window; it only needs to store the fact that you are logged in in a local cookie.
But that's the thing. If you delete your cookies or disable them, there should be no way for the server to know which session belongs to you. The expiry time of sessions handles these situations I guess.

Right, even just when closing your browser, the server has no way of knowing you did that. I've had requests for features where something will get locked when you visit a page, (so that someone else can't come along from a different computer and edit the same data you are in the middle of editing), and it's always an issue because it's not possible to unlock it when the person closes their browser (or if their computer crashed, or any number of things). The server has no way of knowing that it happened. So you need to have a timeout on the lock. Same with session.

in theory, buying all sets on goko is fairly cheap, but in reality it's really expensive considering you can't play

You know how sometimes online games need to go down for maintenance?  It's understandable.

You know how they warn you, you know, with a countdown of sorts?  It was chat text in WOW, no matter where you were.  Heck, even isotropic did it in the chat box.

Goko?  Nope.  Just bam, stops working mid-game.

I don't think you need an account to see their updates.

Are you suggesting he should look out there for updates every time before starting playing? That is insane.

They had count down warnings, I remember them. But they are broken.
