Yeah there's nothing racist here. This Darrel dude is still an asshole though.

I have a Ditto + Eevee in the Daycare right now. I can't keep up with all the eggs they're giving me. Eevee seems to be a nice generic currency since you need a lot of them to get all the variations.

I loved Red, but it was terrible.  Tons of bugs and glitches, and not even a semblance of balance.  Psychic and Dragon type were simply unstoppable.  Don't let nostalgia blind you to a game that gets better every generation.

Oh, and third gen is missing the physical/special split, which was so, so very important.

Dragon is poor in gen I. Psychic and Normal were the dominant types.

Depending on whom you ask, the game has gone up and down in terms of competitive quality. A lot of players will agree that gen III or IV have the best metagames.

Exactly. Everyone knows that Blue was the best version! #teamblue #blastoise4life

Dragon was great in gen I!  Although that's partly because the only Dragon was Dragonite, anyway. :P

Is the gen III metagame really so popular?  The physical/special split was revolutionary and I suppose some people would be resistant to change, but I think it would be pretty easy to objectively call it a positive thing, having made tons more pokemon viable.  All those poor pokemon whose types did not match their stat distribution...

I actually disliked the physical/special split for a few reasons. Pokemon who previously had limited coverage suddenly got many more new options, which made threats in gen IV and onwards more powerful than threats previously. It catalyzed a transition from stat-based defense to resistance-based defense, which meant that it was easier to play around opponents (because you can't resist everything at once).

It would be erroneous to conclude that the physical/special split made more Pokemon viable. It raised the ceiling of offensive potential, but it didn't stop the metagame from being centralized around ~20ish most used Pokemon.

Gen I Dragonite isn't even OU, with or without Wrap.

Eh, fair enough.  I like that more pokemon can actually have STAB attacks that use their better stat, and I like that you are able to "play around opponents".

Dragonite is OU on Smogon's tier list.

You're agreeing with me.  The black guy on the bus would not be running around trying to find someone to take his Eevee off his hands.

There's also the possibility that he was a hug guy with tattoos and this kid traded with him simply because it was too hilarious not to.

No, Gen 3 was obviously the peak!

This.

However, what does this have to do with racism?

Hopefully this won't get the post moved to RSP, but it seems pretty clear to me that Darrel's original thoughts/feelings upon having the guy sit next to him have pretty strong racial implications. Seeing a black guy who "looks like a typical thug" and being afraid of him because of that is an issue of racism. I'm not saying that Darrel hates black people; not in-your-face racism like being in the KKK or anything, but simply that his feelings were formed based upon racial stereotypes in our society.

So, continuing the RSP nature of this thread, if you hadn't posted the title, just from the post I would have inferred that Darrel is likely black, too, because 1) the name Darrel in a couple variants (Darrell and Darryl) usually show up on "most black names" lists, 2) he is a regular bus rider (e.g. in LA in 2012, 92 percent of regular riders were black) and 3) the poster is called "lil nigga" and the jacked guy refers to his other friends as "niggas" (and your friends are more likely to be your race).
