Has this BBC drama made it to your countries yet?
I find it incredibly good, although the current series doesn't quite live up to the first two.

I like it much better than Elementary, although I do like that one as well.

You guys across the pond had the season premiere of season 3 earlier this year I believe.  The US is a bit behind, we get it January 19

For once i agree!

I like elementary despite deciding to hate it before the first episode aired,
but I love Sherlock. Haven't caught up with the new stuff yet, will do so when I get home
from travelling.

We've not only had the premiere, we have had the second episode as well! Will probably have the last one next weekend as well!

I watched some of season 2, including the end where Sherlock apparently dies
I'm quite curius as to how that was resolved, but i got some other stuff to watch before.

I saw the new episode of Season 3 (online. Cheating I know). It was ok, but Season 2 is by far the best so far. Haven't watched the second episode of season three though.

Yes definitely
And the second episode was a little bit too much of highlighting the awkwardness.
Hopefully the third will bring it back to standard or there might not be such hype for a fourth set.

But this series hasn't grabbed me as much as the first two

Rewatched S3E1 yesterday, and as a railfan myself, I simply cannot buy that the guy who "likes trains" didn't immediately say "and there's an incomplete station on the route, they probably did something related to that." When dealing with the situation presented in the episode, that's the first thing a geek like myself would consider, not a day later after it's name-checked by the protagonist.  :P

Totally agree with this.

As a Londoner I already know that there are loads of abandoned stations down there, so its the first thing I would have suggested

But the plot of the episode wasn't centered around that. The whole bomb thing was secondary to Sherlock coming back. It honestly felt slapped in simply because they needed a mystery for him to solve.

I didn't mean for that to be some sort of counter-point or anything. :P It was actually more of a complaint from me. Whining on top of whining. It's just that the whole Sherlock coming back thing wasn't super exciting, and I would have liked that they take the extra time not to do mystery part, and put more about him coming back.

Well yeah, either they make a badass explanation, but if it wasn't such a big deal, then they should have put more into the case. Like he mentions 13 ways to get off the roof, but they don't say what they are because Watson didn't care. I care! That would have been a very "Sherlock" thing to do, going through all the possibilities. But they just skipped that and went on with "Oh, I just jumped off the roof and landed on a pillow."

But that was the right call, in my mind...and very Sherlock to tell the real explanation to the loony no-one will believe, because you can't resist bragging (but don't necessarily want the real explanation out there). And they did show him start to explain all 13, and John shut him down (which is exactly how that would/should/did go down!). I have no problems at all with the "return," just that it got a bit too winky at the audience. The substance was fine. The solution to the mystery was just disappointingly drawn out, is all. That said, it created wonderful moments that are the reason I love the show. "Of course there's an off switch."

I only recently found out the same guy who writes a lot of Doctor Who stuff (Steve Moffat) also writes for Sherlock. Maybe that is why I like it so much.

This is also why it took so long for series 3 of Sherlock to come out. He was busy making Dr Who.

Having watched E02, I'm starting to worry there's too much focus on the character and not enough focus on what I liked about the show, namely the deductions and the crime-solving ...

Having watched E02, I'm starting to worry there's too much focus on the character and not enough focus on what I liked about the show, namely the deductions and the crime-solving ...

Exactly this.

You might have been bamboOzled there, episode 3 didn't air yet, though BBC iPlayer has a "mini-episode" up, which is not musical.

But see, I take this as a sign that the show works, and they don't need to rely on plot gimiks anymore. It's all about striking a balance, sure, but a move in the "character" direction is good for me.

See, what I'm worried is happening is the show is the same and a bunch of former fans are going "hipster" because it's popular now.

Ok, actually just seen the last episode now

It is following the same sort of character development was the others, but I feel this one was actually excellent.

Miss me?

Ah, but i bet even the sharpest viewer didn't realize that this spoiler was just covering a lame trick to get you to see what it said because, in reality I've never even seen the show.

Personally I thought either old age had finally got to you, or you were so dissapointed I was right about the Doctor Who thing that you sank into a deep dark depression eating 400 twinkies (they are still a thing in US right? Not heard of them since die hard) and ballooning in weight, until you got yourself on one of those reality lose weight series and whipped yourself back into shape, helping you to enhance your potential, sign a modelling deal and hit the big time with a share deal you took early on in your career that turned out to be Whatsapp.

So specific discussions on the last episode..

Sherlock certainly decided that shooting CAM was the only solution immediately after CAM admitted that there was no physical vault.  Sherlock likely foresaw this outcome, as he made Watson brought his revolver.  So, why did he wait until his brother showed up to shoot CAM?  Why was it important to do it in front of the government agents?

Possibly to ensure that Watson was absolved of all involvement, which he may not have been if Mycroft had shown up to see Watson, Sherlock, Murdoch-expy's body and Watson's gun.

Probably all part of some master plan that will be teased for the next series.....and then unadequately explained.

I thought this series was poor compared to the last two, but still good.

Episode 1 was poor. The second one was fun but really serious. The third was good though. Not as good, but good.

Well, I suppose that makes sense.  Good call.  Though, Sherlock could also have simply confessed and absolved Watson of any guilt.

The magic was lost this season. Too much fan service, too much hyper-activity, and not enough mystery solving! The third episode was the best, but the teaser at the end was stupid. The actual mysteries this season were really weak and really divorced from the source material (I like the updates/references to the original stories). It's like they've run out of good source material, when clearly they haven't.

Really?
There's only been those two Johnny Depp films and the US series to go on before hasn't there?

Pretty sure there was a book about Sherlock. Maybe just an essay. And the movie is Downy Jr. It was pretty true to the books without a doubt...
