^But it doesn't have the reaction, which is why SC < Vault doesn't work either. I actually haven't played all the Dark Ages cards yet, so I mis-remembered Storeroom.

Cellar doesn't map to Storeroom very cleanly since Cellar has +1 action and Storeroom has +1 buy. Storeroom > Secret Chamber makes sense though, since Storeroom can do everything a secret chamber does and it lets you sift first and it gives you +1 buy.

Well, Storeroom doesn't have a reaction.  But SC's reactions is really weak anyway.

Not against deck Attacks.  Then it's better than Moat.

Which Deck attack?  Maybe if Curses are out, I would leave a Curse on top for Swindler.  Eh.

Thief, Noble Brigand, Pirate Ship: Should be obvious - don't want your Treasures trashed, leave your Copper for them to play with.
Spy - Leave something harmless on top of your deck, and make sure your one Goons gets in your hand, instead of your discard pile.
Bureaucrat - What's that?  No, I don't have any Victory cards in my hand.
Jester - Let's put a Silver there and give you AP for a couple minutes.
Rabble - Thanks for discarding my Ruins!
Minion - Random four cards?  I think not.  Let's be sure of at least two of those.
Saboteur - Here - hit my Moneylender - I don't need him anymore.  Oh, and discard this Estate while you're at it.
Knight - Dame Josephine, you say?  I raise you Sir Vander!  Awww somebody wost her widdwe Wictory points, didn't she?  Gold for me...

Thief, NB, PS -- touche. :)
Spy -- OK, I suppose.
Bureaucrat -- debatable!  I suppose SC gives you options, though Moat should be just fine.
Jester -- also debatable.
Rabble -- touche!
Minion -- debatable, but I think Moat is usually better here.  Tough call.
Saboteur -- I argue that Moat is usually better because you won't always have a Moneylender to put back.
Knights -- fair.

Alchemist>Laboratory>Wishing Well~>Vagrant
Scrying Pool~>Spy

Unless tunnel, library, watchtower or jack of all trades are on the board

Worker's Village>Hamlet
Witch>Young Witch
Peddler>Oasis

In games with no attacks
Courtyard>Moat (to name but one card)
Fishing Village>Lighthouse

Not as they appear:
Smithy~Courtyard

EDIT:
Removed Count>Horse Traders (horse traders has +1 buy)

For the "no attacks"

Storeroom > Secret Chamber
Count !> Horse Traders (the +Buy)

In a world without +buy (backpedalling past my earlier error)

Count>Horse Traders
Every terminal silver (except duchess and embargo)>Woodcutter
Hunting Grounds>Council Room
Market=Peddler>Pawn
Grand Market>Conspirator
Workers Village=Village>Hamlet
Every other knight>Sir Martin

(Surprisingly few cards, and other than woodcutter and market there aren't any cost anomalies)

Except for, you know, the reaction part. Other than that yeah, it's a better version.
