Also Gilmore Girls is coming back for 4 1.5 hour long episodes on Netflix? Who isn't excited for that?

Soulless monsters, that's who.

Sitting here at my computer after a league match as my fan attempts to cool my entire apartment it seems. A+ for effort, Mr. Fan, F to MF. I actually don't know if I've ever posted I have this issue over there, so I guess I'll try saying so at the MF forums...

To me it seems the events have to be ranked based on different metrics than regular cards and those metrics vary from event to event. What does it really mean for an event to be strong?

This is why I supported them having their own separate list. Comparing Dominion cards is already comparing apples and oranges, but comparing cards and Events is comparing apples and otters.

You otter just give up now because I'm playing in the tourney also?

Shh, I wanted to steal more free advice too!

We should play games together in real life sometime, eHalc. Vault Wars is a game I wanted to hate (generic fantasy theme, cringey pop-culture tie-in) but then it did some fascinating stuff with hidden information/drafting that I've never seen packaged together quite that way before, and ended up loving it.

To anyone reading, consider that two votes for Vault Wars.

And one sad vote that there's no pruning in Kodama - that seemed part of the heart of the game. Interesting that they'd change it.

Doesn't #213 make it so that the first player to break the game wins?  That's not necessarily a bad thing, just making sure I understand it correctly.

Yes, at least at the start of the game. Like everything, you can change it any time.

100% in. Would also love it if we didn't start a new game and just changed everything in one go, that would be fun. But anyway.

I think it's been long enough that there will be people who were playing that will no longer be. Best to start a new game I think.

Yes, that's the point - the next rule would reset the game to a new game with new players. Part of the spirit of a nomic, really.

Anyway it was only a semi-serious suggestion.

Oh hey! I played Kodama when it was Kigi, as a print-on-demand. It was extremely fun. I'm not sure how much Kodama is different, but Kigi's greatest thrill was the physical element - where you sit at the table matters, if you're 6' or 6" from your opponent, even though I wouldn't call it a dexterity game.

I was all ready to post another bugged log after an opponent opened Scout against me yesterday, but then I lost so...

87
Another issue I just realized that wasn't included in this poll is that logs aren't available until the next day. I wonder if they have plans to change this. It is pretty inconvenient to wait until the next day to pull a log if you want to discuss it.

If that's the main problem someone had with the client, I think they'd be highly satisfied with it overall.

88
You didn't have a problem with three pages of people trolling you about sliders, but you have a problem with someone actually trying to take what you've done and make into something helpful?

99% sure pst's post has an implied /s tag.

Something is definitely calibrated differently - I went from Lvl 15 to 25, but not really.

Speaking of Promos, any word on when Summon will be available in English?

It's supposed to be at U-Con, and based on this post, they physically already have the cards. So I assume it's got to be hitting BGG soon.

They've said a few times that with them not having to keep Goko functional, they can make changes a lot faster.

I certainly want this to be true. But this is a great example of what I'm talking about - I've heard this before. Back when they re-wrote all the code, I thought, "Oh hey, a lot of this is crap, but they're starting from scratch - so many of these fundamental flaws can be fixed! Then it'll just be standard bugs/fancy feature-adding to the finish line. Huzzah!"

So I want to believe the pace of improvement is going to increase. I really do. But I have no faith that reality will materialize. I would love to be wrong.

92
So this patch is just speed at this point, or does it turn animations off even more than MF's "minimal" setting?

I'm honestly curious how it could make MF faster at this point, I suppose I should try it out, as I had to slow down their speed setting from its max because I was loosing track of what was happening.

I would be more interested in a feature to change the font of the log than the text colors of the log, btw, if that feedback is relevant. Changing the background to something with a better contrast (ie not jet-black) would be sweet.

You are absolutely correct that things are getting better - I agree! What makes us all so frustrated is that one of the big reasons things are getting better is that they just gave us a way to turn off a feature that they added. Months later, we (most visibly) went one step back, one step forward.

Now there are features I like they've added they don't get enough credit for: re-match, for one, is amazing. It could use some work (start player based on loser of previous match, for example) but the ability itself is splendid and I use it a lot.

On the other hand, I think it's reasonable to feel that

1) things are getting better
2) things aren't getting better fast enough

because at the pace they're going, it is entirely reasonable to think it will take a year to get to an online client most of us would be happy with. And even then, I'd be worried you were being optimistic. We saw how the long wait for a re-write left us with something identical.

It's not impossible to both be happy with improvements and frustrated with the pace.

Adam, I think you are taking a lot of things personally that are not meant personally. I also think you, I, and the majority of the rest of the forums want the same thing - good online Dominion. I also think you are committing the (understandable) internet mistake of assuming the (worst) few are representative of the many.

As an example, pst's poll is excellent and I see nothing negative directed at him in that thread. I see some comments that the poll could have been set up differently, but that's a normal discussion about the topic at hand and not an attack on him as the OP.

Anyway, post in the MF forums! Link them to pst's thread! I think the best way to improve Dominion Online is to lead by example (as opposed to long threads like this, but I know your heart's in the right place). I shall endeavor to do so as well.

95
Well I can agree with you there, for sure.

96
I think a much more constructive approach is to point out that a good team could be Level 0 Iso players and code a great Dominion game, just by understanding player feedback and being good at their jobs. Obviously it's great if the designers love and are skilled at the game, but I honestly don't think that's necessary. Being a good programmer is the skill required to code a good Dominion game.

Every flaw feels like negligent disregard instead of honest failures.  The proportion of necessary features of design choices granted from the getgo makes it feel like the desire for a reasonable Dominion client must be foreign, alien, and bizarre to those tasked with providing one, and you feel like you have to explain yourself as a strange alien race, for the human developers certainly can't understand why we eat Helium sandwiches or why a preference on whether memorization is a core game mechanic or not is a big deal.

The "Year of the False Spring" was a year of non-snowy winter that happened at some point. It's when one of the important tournaments in the backstory happened.

Okay, convention badge/ticket bought, let's do this.

I have to say, played a lot of games tonight, and within the game, this is pretty playable now that you can turn animations off. Still room for improvement, but acceptable. Outside the game (matchmaking, rankings, crystal ball, etc) is still pretty rough.

(pro-tip - tab opens and closes the chat)

It's still choppy for me, and the application has kind of a grainy look.

Well, it was humming right along for me. Obviously not good that it's still bad for lots of players, but there must be something sorta working now if I'm the lucky bastard with a smooth program.
