Blueprint should be an attack, I think.

I don't think it should because, similarly to Masquerade, Blueprint totally wouldn't work if every other player revealed a Moat.

I think Blueprints would work fine even if some or all other players Moat out. What's the problem?

I played this last weekend, a friend brought it back from Gencon.  It was quite the hit, all of my friends who demo'ed it at Gencon liked it enough to buy it.

It was not a hit with me, though.  The building a card mechanic is meaningful about 20% of the time, but you have to fool with sleeving cards 100% of the time.
The push your luck mechanic is pretty nasty with how it combines with the scaling effect of deckbuilders.  It's very common to get into an early game situation where it's definitely correct to push, but the upside of the bad push is exponential scaling that will cascade through the rest of the game, and the downside of the push is exponential unscaling that will cascade through the rest of the game.  It's kinda like Dominion composed of nothing but kingdoms where Swindler/Swindler is the correct opening and you have to go for that even though you'll collide the Swindlers and Swindle an Estate a lot of the time and have to languish for the rest of the game in a dismal vortex.

Good insights.  Push-your-luck can be really frustrating and isn't for everyone.

Also, it's a low luck game (I'm not entirely sure yet whether to make it no luck besides setup... basically it's just a case of how many of the cards are revealed from the start of the game. I can have everything visible and make it no luck, only reveal cards at the start of the turn and make it quite reaction based, or something in between).

Somewhat controversial, but it should be noted that simultaneous decisions are arguably elements of luck.  It's like Rock-Paper-Scissors.

Your idea sounds a lot like 7 Wonders, except with drafting from a pool instead of from personal hands, and bidding for draft order -- especially the part about the 3 stages.  Only 9 turns total sounds rather short, but I guess it'll depend on the feel you're aiming for.

I've opted to keep 7 of them, which still feels like a bit much.

I don't really want to invest time into levelling up a gym I'm already in. If I use your strategy, it would also be easy for someone else to take down with their own Hypno squad.

Found out there are actual catch numbers in the Pokedex.  I've seen 173 Drowzee and caught 153.  I don't think that counts all the Drowzee that I've walked past without clicking on.

I hatched my third 10k egg today.  It was a Jynx.  Not only that, it was a Jynx that is lower CP than three other Jynx I have.  It is literally my least wanted 10k egg possibility.  My 10k egg track record is not good, not good at all.

BTW, for anybody sad about the removal of tracking, it should be coming back soon.  The current version has a much more reliably radar (it updates accurately!  And I'm pretty sure being at the top of the list actually means something!) and they're testing out a new tracker with some users where it shows the Pokemon's nearest Pokestop.

Edit: I took a screenshot of some of my Pokemon after lucky egg evolutions today.

Of my top 20 highest CP Pokemon, 12 of them are Hypno now.  I don't know how many to keep.

At least to me these block guesses -> block reveals take some of it out, so I thought that'd be more fun.
I hear you. But not doing them is game-theoretically suboptimal as long as we allow them.

That's false!  This extra information may help your spymaster provide you with better clues, but it can also help the other side!  For example, as the opposing spymaster, I once decided on a different clue because you (or gkrieg?) indicated a suspicion for a word that was one of ours!  Instead of going with a clue that would cover that word, I picked a different clue to leave that option up as a trap.  Can't remember if that worked out, but it was a thing.

Also, if you indicate a suspicion for something correct but an earlier guess stops the chain, that can influence the opposing guesser!  For example, gkrieg's above chain of guesses was stopped by Mammoth, but he mentioned break and tag as follow-ups.  Maybe faust will now avoid those words if he thinks gkrieg's reasoning makes sense.
Sure, it can help the other team. So can flat-out guessing if you guess the wrong word. That doesn't prove that you should make no guesses. I think overall the benefits outweigh the costs. And even if the other team does not make suggestions, you should keep in mind anyway what their remaining words could be based on their clues, and act accordingly.

My point was that it's not necessarily/always sub-optimal. Sometimes the right move is to not guess. I'm pretty sure even you have opted not to take every guess available to you.

You don't think there will be Alolan Pikachu and Pichu to match?  I guess that's possible, but I think Alolan Pikachu is still more likely with the existence of Alolan Raichu.  It's possible that Pikachu will be special in having both Alolan and regular forms in Alola, or maybe the regular Pikachu is earlier trailers was a red herring or an accident or something.

It's not just earlier trailers. The latest trailer (not counting the one that's leaking now) makes prominent use of Pikachu (for demonstrating Z-Moves).

I will bet you one deluxe fully trained non-legendary Pokémon that Pikachu will not have an Alola Form. It might get an additional cosplay outfit or something of that nature, but not an actual Alola Form. I mean Exeggcute doesn't have one, so it's not unprecedented that only part of an evolutionary line gets one. And I really can't imagine them wanting to mess with the look of their mascot.

I take back what I said earlier about Dark-type Persian being too close to Liepard. STAB Technician Bite is nifty, especially if Alolan Persian has a higher Attack than Persian Prime.

Fire/Ghost Marowak can still have Lightning Rod! That's pretty cool. Cursed Body is also a fun ability.

I'm not taking that bet, but I don't think it's clear one way or the other.  Basic Pikachu could still have been a red herring.  Is it confirmed that Exeggcute won't have an Alolan form?  It might just not be revealed yet.  As I said earlier, I don't know whether the mascot status makes an Alolan Pikachu more or less likely.  I could see it going either way.  With Alolan Raichu being a thing, I think it's more likely now than it was before.

As their mascot, do you think Pikachu is more likely to get an Alolan form, or less?

New leaks suggest that the answer was "more likely".

I disagree. Regular Pikachu has been shown in trailers. Alolan Raichu does look cool, though.

I think Dome should either be an Attack or be optional for others. Duchies are nice and all, but this could also be an Estate junker.

It's growing on me, actually.

BTW, how do alolan forms relate to their original forms? They are basically completely new pokemons, from a practical point of view, no?

It seems that way. There was a 2013 interview shortly after XY released where Ken Sugimori mentioned that there were getting to be too many Pokemon to remember them all, do having regional forms may be their solution. It's like a new Pokemon, but the familiarity makes it easier to track.

I still haven't tried this game, but an expansion was announcedMystic Vale: Vale of Magic.  Kind of hilariously generic considering the base game name.  Donald X. could follow suit with Dominion: Domain, or Dominion: Dominance.

Even if you disregard cost and the name of the card there are only a handful of strictly better cards.

Grand Market better than Market, GM/Market better than Peddler
Festival better than Woodcutter
Stash/Royal Seal better than Silver

I can't remember the thread but those were the ones I remember
Goons over militia is a good one.

Here's the thread that beat this topic into the ground. I linked a post that sums up what needs to be true for something to be a strictly better effect.

Stockpile
Types: Landmark
When you buy a card costing at least $5, you may take it's price in debt. If you do, +3 VP.

Mith, are we allowed to change our ratings? After a second glance, I just realized that this doesn't allow infinite VP accumulation like I thought it did.

Symposium
Types: Landmark
Once per game, at any time during the Action phase, +1 Action.
At the end of the game, if you did not use that Action, +5 VP.

I don't like this one for two reasons:
1) No way to track whether you've used the Action or not.
2) It's my belief that in about 99.9999% of games, nobody will ever use that Action because it's that unlikely that +1 Action means the difference between a Province and an Estate or between a Colony and a Duchy, which means that everbody gets +5 VP, which, since it benefits everybody equally, is as good as not being there at all.

Interesting, Stockpile can provide unbounded VP tokens, though it's unlikely.  Buy card that costs $5+, take debt and VP.  Reveal Trader to not gain the $5 card.

For Symposium, I think (1) it's pretty easy to remember this one decision and (2) a single +1 action could make such a difference.  But even if it doesn't, I think the idea itself is interesting and the numbers could be tweaked to make the decision tougher, with some playtesting to determine what the appropriate number would be.

Didn't realize how that works at first....
Play Crown, buy Stonemason, overpay 6, gain Peddler, gain BV to gain Mandarin(trashing Crown). Peddler now costs 8 and BV costs 6.

Hmm, I was thinking it would be:

Play Quarry, buy Stonemason, overpay 4 (or 3), gain Border Village for Mandarin (or just Mandarin directly).  BV now costs $6 (Mandarin now costs $5) and your second Stonemason gain will still be for a $4 (or $3).

Apparently on Smogon, "wishlisting" is prohibited. So here, on this non-fascist website, is my wishlist for 1st-gen Pokémon that I hope get Alolan forms.

Butterfree
Raticate
Fearow and Dodrio (they've lived far too long in the shadow of e.g. Staraptor)
Arbok (to differentiate it from Seviper)
Nidqueen and Nidoking (ideally to differentiate them further from each other)
Parasect
Persian
Primeape
Golem (or a Mega Evolution, I'm not picky)
Farfetch'd (a Mega Evolution couldn't hold a Stick)
Dewgong (to differentiate it from Walrein)
Hypno (needs a good niche, preferably a cool new Ability that ties into Hypnosis)
Kingler (maybe just adding another type to make it more special)
Jynx

Do you think they'll restrict Alolan forms to first gen only?  As their mascot, do you think Pikachu is more likely to get an Alolan form, or less?  I'd kind of like an Alolan Victreebel.  The Oddish line got Bellossom as a special thing, but the Bellsprout line is kind of generic, even though it's one of my favourite Kanto lines.

I've seen some neat fan ideas for Alolan forms.  A volcanic island Lapras was one of my favourites.  A hula Jynx concept was also very interesting.

If you're working with other designers, seems like a great situation to play test. FWIW, I'm having trouble seeing why it would be too strong. It seems nice to be rewarded for lining up the combo. But if it's really a problem, Crossroads wording is probably the way to go.

Honest Person is generally helpful though? It let's you trash starting junk from your deck with minimal risk, since you can replace most good cards flipped.

Enchanter is totally optional so it's nothing like a self-attack.

The other ideas seem interesting. Purse Maker especially seems like it could work.

In the OP, of course I think a debt cost increaser would work.  The others look neat too.

For 1, Peddler should also be valid.  Both this answer and the provided one depend on tricky timing when you check the cost.

PPE: I don't think BV works because the card you gain from BV isn't one you gained from Stonemason overpay.

And man the rarity of pokemon is just... ugh. I'm sure that Rattata + Pidgey + Spearow + Weedle + Zubat makes up about 85% of pokemon encounters.

It varies drastically by region.  I have only seen one weedle, and about 5 spearows, where I have a ton of ekans and sandshrews.  I would also love to see a drowzee

Meanwhile, I haven't seen a single Sandshrew (but did catch one random Sandslash) but have caught over 100 Drowzee based on the amount of Candy I have.

Near and Far

Near and Far is the thematic sequel to Above and Below, the most popular game so far from Red Raven Games, as well as being set in the same world as some other Red Raven games (Islebound, City of Iron).  I just double-checked and apparently I forgot to post about Above and Below when it was on kickstarter, oops (unless I posted it in Random Stuff or something).

Above and Below took traditional euro game mechanisms (primarily Action Point Allowance and Set Collection) and threw in a splash of narrative in the form of a story book, similar to the one in Tales of the Arabian Nights (but not nearly as big).

Near and Far is another euro-ish game with stories, but this one is a campaign.  A criticism of Above and Below (and Arabian Nights) is that the stories can feel random and disconnected; Near and Far tries to correct this with narratives that evolve and change depending on past decisions.  In the primary game mode, players take unique characters and play them over the course of 10 games, each on a different map of an atlas book.  There is also a story mode with tales highly specific to each character (for ~4 games, I think), and an "arcade mode" for one-off games.

The game mechanisms also include some worker placement and something that I think could be described as area majority, though I'm not entirely sure.  There are 4 factions and you can earn banners for the factions over the course of the game.  Controlling factions earns you points, but the value depends on how many camps belong to each faction, which is also player controlled.

The Kickstarter campaign has 9 days left and it is easily Red Raven's most successful campaign to date, having eclipsed their previous total funding record just on the first day.  If you are interested but don't want to pledge right now, the only KS exclusive you're missing are metal coins.

Also, if you are a fan of Above and Below but didn't get the Expanded Edition (from kickstarter or at a convention), those components are available from this campaign.  There is a tier for those components only, if that's what you want.

My ambition is to get strong enough to join the gym closest to where I live, which is currently level 7 with 26k prestige and a cp1074 Lapras in the first slot.  It's been like that for about 4 days now, I think.  If I can get in there, it would probably continue to hold for a long time.

So I got into this gym this morning, but only because it had been taken down overnight.  It was blue before I cleared it out again.  Not sure of its status now since the Pokemon I left there has returned.
