You need to take into account that it will only draw you cards without castles, and deny castles to your opponent.

this one was a tie too and it happened completely randomly by shared genetics

I take the high achievement if my opponent could deny it next turn.

Never happened to me but occasionally everything just freezes and i refresh on a hunch to find out i timed out on someone.

I'd play.

My opponent has a board full of 10s and 8s. I have Metalworking.

Innovation General Discussion / Re: Let's talk specific situations

There should probably be a thread to discuss, "what would you do in this specific situation"? So, lets use this thread.

I had a tough choice today:
I have Mathematics and The Wheel on my board (as my only top cards). The 1 pile was depleted (mostly into our score piles), the 2 pile had 6 cards. Fermentation was either in the deck, or was the "2" achievement. I had Currency (age 2, one leaf) in my hand.
My choice: keep drawing with the wheel, to hopefully grab fermentation? Or start teching with Mathematics?

Things to consider:
There is a 1/7 chance fermentation is not in the deck
Icons: I had no leaves, but my opponent only had 1 or 2. (Most of them were in the various score piles.) I could control leaves once I got fermentation, but I would have to take meld actions to do so.
Math: I already had the 2 in hand, ready to go.

My decision: I went with Mathematics. Would others have done differently?

i wouldnt go for fermentation since it would only draw you two cards and wheel already does that for you

Kobukson has a typo, it says 'return' instead of 'returned'.

I might play but I don't think I can do games in 15 minutes, they take me more like 30.

Just played a game against ehunt and noticed a slight error of the ingame logging of Mapmaking.

On turn 10 I received a message something along the lines of "You transfer Domestication[1] from your score pile to Thisisnotasmile's". It did, in fact, get transferred to ehunt's score pile (as it should have), it was just logged wrong. The end game log is correct though.

Yeah I see that all the time, too.

It happens.  It's probably not the worst lucksack possible in the game, though.  Playing a weak opening against Domestication/Clothing, and failing to draw any colors to block Monumental Clothing, and insta losing, strikes me as sadder because you didn't have any chance at all to avoid it.

my very next game

I like Isotropic much better simply because the interface is so much better than goko's.

Just got back on... is everyone reset to level 0?
No, I didn't lose any levels.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Has Isotropic crashed?

Yeah. Isotropic is clean, simple and fast. BSW and BGA use annoying sounds and animations and whatnot that slow down the game unnecessarily without actually adding anything, and the card graphics are huge so you can actually see less of everything. When the official game comes out, I sure hope it will be more like Isotropic than BSW or BGA.

GendoIkari, I agree with your second point. Eventually, the novice player will get a can't-lose Mountebank/Lighthouse opening that you just can't do anything about. The wins don't budge your ranking northward, and the losses send your skill plummeting and uncertainty up. Meanwhile, the wins inflict you with just-won second-seat status against the next player that comes along.

As to how long to keep playing in the face of a bad night, interesting point. I guess that probably depends on each player's individual reactions more than I might have thought at first.

On most days, I play for about 40 minutes to an hour, and I set myself a daily limit of 4 losses. 4 losses in that time mean I'm having a horrible day, so I just stop and go do something else, and try again the next day.

Dominion Articles / Re: Is develop REALLY that awful?
« on: February 06, 2012, 05:35:49 pm »
Develop gains you 2 cards, so there are probably a few rush strategies that would work thanks to this card.

For instance: Silk Road rush:

Open Develop/random $4, if they collide, Develop the $4 into a random $5 + Develop which go on top. Next turn Develop the $5 into a Gold and a Silk Road (or yet another random $4).
First priority is probably to get all or close to all the Develops, then start Developing Develops into Silk Road/Estate for 5VP a turn. If the other guy is building a normal deck that can get 4 Provinces he'll stall and ... start to buy Silk Roads... yeah, it's probably not a very good plan :)

Here's a sample solitaire game:

What about Gardens? Develop + Gardens sounds like a neat strategy when there is no workshop or similar.
