Dominion General Discussion / Re: [spoiler] Full Hinterlands card list
« on: October 25, 2011, 01:03:42 pm »
It's interesting that, with the exception of cards that give +1 Buy, none of the Hinterlands cards really combo well with Highway. As I see it, the main advantage of Highway over Bridge is that you can chain a few before playing Feast/Workshop/Ironworks/Saboteur/Smugglers/University/Horn of Plenty without having to buy and activate a big +Actions/+Cards engine first.
It's definitely a card that would feel more at home in prosperity.
Well, Prosperity has a lot of extra Buys available, but Highway really hurts cards like Bishop and Forge.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Is there a right way to play Mine?
« on: October 22, 2011, 11:12:06 am »
When you play Mine, unless you're going Gold-to-Platinum, you're only getting a $1 boost this turn, which is pretty poor compared to many terminal Action cards. The ability to trash a single Copper and gain a single Silver is also pretty underwhelming. For one thing, it's way too slow at trashing Copper even if you buy a Mine in your initial shuffle. All you have to show for it is a bunch of Silvers, which are generally not hard to come by. You can buy multiple Mines, but you're eating up terminal actions that could be better spent.

However, the ability to trash a Silver for a Gold is much more desirable because Gold is hard to come by. With both a Mine and your buys, you can accumulate Gold pretty quickly.

What I prefer to do, when the board allows it, is to use a faster Copper-trashing card to trash my Copper (Moneylender, Steward, Trading Post, Upgrade, Loan, Spice Merchant, Lookout, Masquerade, Ambassador, Forge, Mint, Remake, etc.) and then use Mine on my other Treasure cards.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Any Gossip About Fall 2011 Expansion?

I'm expecting to see a card similar to:

Type: Victory
Cost: $5

Worth 2 VP
----------------------------
When you buy this, reveal the top 5 cards of your deck. Discard the revealed Victory and Curse cards and put the other cards back on top of your deck in any order.

Big $2
----
When another player plays an attack card, you may reveal this card.  If you do, you are unaffected by the attack, and your attacker gains +$2.

Under most circumstances, I would not give my opponent a free $2 just to protect myself from their attack. Can you imagine it in a 4-player game? Free Provinces for the attacker!

Big $2
__________
When another player plays an attack, you may reveal this card.
If you do, play it and +1 Card.
This stays in play until the end of your next turn.

So, the idea is that you get the $2 benefit of the card on your next turn? I don't think the rules define what happens when you play a Treasure card any other time than during your own buy phase.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Duke Analysis?
« on: June 13, 2011, 11:49:22 pm »
In a game with 3 players where you're the only one going for Duchy/Duke, it's a little different. On the one hand, you have to move faster because each of your opponents only has to buy 6 Provinces, rather than 8. On the other hand, they have to work together if they want to deny you Duchies, since there are 12 of them.
