Bonsai is definitely Japanese.

Can one of you explain the connection to Columbus?

But Envious makes the Treasures produce +$1 instead of what they normally do, so Horn of Plenty etc would just do that, right?

I would've interpreted it as it produces $1 (instead of $0) but the rest works as is. AND this discussion* (well, avoidance of this!) is why it was designed to just affect Silver and Gold. :)

So, I'm not sure if actually see any that I feel safe about.

For FORCE, are you referencing Star Wars, I could see that.

Not sure I get your other two. (bonsai is, btw, those small trees, like in Karate Kid)

The other one I see is Worm - Way of the Worm is a Dominion card, and vidicate posts frequently enough on the Dominion related forums (and asked the question about that as clues, right?)

(alas, I don't see any other Dominion Ways, though)

Was there an intentional reason Envious only affects Silver and Gold and not just all Treasures?

RANCH

You're right, I missed POUND. I think I like ROBIN more, though.

Jack?

oh i see it. already red.

Oh, right. It wasn't bolded, so I missed it. (and I wasn't too confident about it anyway, so that's good...)

Let's see...

Actual animals: ROBIN, JACK (terrier)
related: RANCH, VIRUS, and maybe KUNG FU (as in Kung Fu Panda??)

I guess I like Ranch best, then robin, and ?

I like AIR (for hot) and HELICOPTER (for Hawaii) as guesses 3 and 4, though.

(it's very important to have all throne room variants even if they can't be the right card!)

But does throne room itself count as a throne room variant?  :)

Unless sand (of course for Hawaii! - duh) could be both. i.e the 4th hot word too.

Which would be fine if Air is neutral.

Rules Questions / Re: Plateau Shepherds + Cost reducer

While it won't affect end of game scores, it will affect the online VP counter - the score you see during your turn may not be your actual score at the end of the game (independent of new Victory card buys, of course)!

Edit: Ingix pointed out below that this is not the case. Which does make sense, since Plateau Shepherds says "When scoring".

Oh, though we still do have a hawaii one left.

Still like DOG -> TORCH.

I'd go DOG -> TORCH -> AIR

Good choices. Probably is 4 of those 5?

I like salsa best for the first one. Then? Either torch or dog.

Rules Questions / Re: Duration and Way of the Squirrel
« on: March 08, 2022, 11:14:50 am »
One thing to consider is not what makes sense for "us" who analyze the game rules as a computer, trying to extract exact precision. Donald has often made decisions on rules clarifications (and other things too, like font size) which consider the casual player.

With that in mind, what would a casual player think - they play Village then Fishing Village on the same turn, both as Way of the Squirrel (we can assume they had a Villager). Would they differentiate discard Village but not Fishing Village, just because one has Duration in it? Seems unlikely.

So in that sense, the simplest ruling is that they do the same, and among the two options, discarding both seems to make more sense (at least to me).

If the goal is to make this ruling consistent with the duration rule, then having the duration rule for Outpost be that it stays out because it sets up the next turn (and not because it draws only 3 cards) would seem consistent. Which would then mean that an Outpost played on an Outpost turn would get cleaned up that turn and not stay out. (alternatively, Outpost could be errata'd to remove Duration as a type)

To me this also generally fits the reasoning behind the Duration rule; namely it's to remind you to do things. Things about future turns makes sense to need reminders, because things can happen between Cleanup and the next time your turn starts (even with Outpost, there could be other turns you take before it). Not so much between cleanup sub phase 1 (discarding) and sub phase 2 (drawing), i.e. you don't really need the reminder for those few extra seconds.

I used broker to trash 2 provinces (first for favors, second for buys) and then 3 piled estates/guardians/border guards in a plateau shepherds game.  I think I either got 10 or 11 of them on the last turn as I had another source of a buy somewhere.

Broker can't get you buys, though. (Cards, Actions, $, or favors)

I think I'm still happy with battleship next.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Outpost + Lich
« on: March 05, 2022, 09:12:16 pm »
The draw is part of the Cleanup phase and always has been, though, at least based on the rules as published. (I don't know if there was a secret-history prerelease version in which Draw was a separate phase.)

Sure, but you can think of Cleanup as having two sub phases (similar to a Buy phase's "play treasures" and "buy cards" sub phases):
• Cleanup - discard cards from hand and in play
• Draw - draw your hand for next turn

In other words, once you start drawing (while Outpost is still doing something), you can't then go back and discard from in play.

I get that. But feel scuba more likely (may not quite come up as quickly on mind to a non American).

I like those three, though scuba more than battleship.

Honorable mention to helicopter, air, and earth. But those are not nearly as good as the first 3.

Thanks.

Vote: WCD

Maybe I should've actually voted here earlier, but I stand by not wanting to X-1 so early in the day.

I do think that people are mis valuing the power of plurality vote, generally. i.e. in a normal game, if a wagon stalls, it makes sense to move from it; here not so much, as you don't need to reach X.

Honestly, I can't think of a game were I've been as inactive as D1 this game. I do know in one of my last scum games I wanted to try to be more inactive (as I thought people would read that as town) and I said that to my scum mates. I think that may have been BSG 2 and interestingly enough, WCD was scum with me that game. Scum points for Didds trying to point you to that one fore sure.

Do we have a vote count?

scolapasta, what is the case on gkrieg?

e's case on him in post #825. I agree that his voting feels opportunistic. It's not great, but I'm less convinced on joth than I was before.

I should be able to check in a couple times before deadline today.
