Dominion General Discussion / Re: Taking Notes - Against the Rules?
« on: January 06, 2019, 01:20:46 pm »
Another 'trick' that I have used is to move my Reserve playmat into my play area so that I will 'remember' that I have the option to play them at the start of my next hand.  Another I have done is putting my Coffer/Village mat there.  It just hard to remember everything in some of the games, so a 'reminder' could be used in our games.

Rules Questions / Re: 10 Rules Questions
« on: January 06, 2019, 01:11:58 pm »
2. Storyteller - Does the Treasure get countered per Treasure played, or per Coin amount on the Treasures played?  If I have 4 Silvers, then I play 3 in the Action phase, and then play 1 in buy phase (given that my extra cards are not actions or treasures)
My guess is that I would get +6 cards for playing 3 silvers (and not +3 cards), and then in buy phase I would still have 2 coins when I play my 4th Silver.
Mostly correct. You draw 7 cards because Storyteller itself gives also +1$.
Interesting.  I have the 1st Edition so we were only using +1 coin from Storyteller in the Buy phase. I had not realized the 're-written' rules clarified the +1 coin.  Curious why they did not just make the +1 coin a +1 card option, since that is what it will always do.
Thanks.

Variants and Fan Cards / Fan Wiki option?
« on: January 06, 2019, 01:04:10 pm »
Would there be any interest in building a Fan Card Wiki?  I am curious what other people have created and seeing how similar other cards are, but without a Wiki it is not an easy task

Rules Questions / 10 Rules Questions
« on: January 06, 2019, 12:12:49 pm »
I figured I would post all the questions in one post instead of independently.  Again (if it is not too much trouble) can you point to the source of the answer? (BTW - I really do appreciate everyone who participates in this forum, it really keeps me engaged in Dominion).
BTW - I played this as a Kingdom.

1. Disciple - Do you still play an Action if it is no longer in play? I played Pillage as my Action and since the first time it was played, it was Trashed.
My guess per the “lost track” rule, I could not play it a second time.

3. Haunted Woods - Does the play immediately place the rest of their hand on top of their deck, so they cannot use a Reaction (Hovel, Watchtower or Trader) card that was in their hand if they have 2 buys?
My guess is No since the 2nd Buy is independent of the 1st Buy, so they cannot use any Reaction cards since they are now on top of their deck.

4. Outpost - So you cannot take 3 consecutive turns (using Output)? Is there any scenario where 3 turns could be taken?
My guess is you only take 2 turn in total.

5. Pillage - How do you ‘complete’ the card if it is in the trash?
My guess is that the ‘text’ is still active and in play, but the card technically stays on the Trash pile.

6. Grand Market - Are setaside or cards on mats (like Island) or coin tokens on your coffers considered in play?
My guess is No as only the cards in the ‘active’ play area considered in play?

7. Diadem - Does the E + Action token (if placed on a supply pile) count as an unused action?
My guess is Yes, since it is ‘Active’ (even if I do not have a card in play that ‘activated’ it)

8. Develop - If the trashed card has potion in my hand, can I gain a similar card with 1 less and 1 more and potion in its cost?
So if I trash an Alchemist, then I could gain a Golem and a University.  Also could I trash an Alchemy and get a 2 and 4 card (without potion in its cost)?
My guess is Yes for both

9. Storeroom - Do I have to discard for the 1st part, in order to get the +coin for the 2nd part?
My guess is yes since there is not a conditional ‘if’ in the text.

10. Border Village - I think I saw a clarification on this once, but I could not find it again.  But getting passed a Border Village is not ‘gaining’ the card.
My guess it is not gained, it was only ‘passed’.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Wiki etiquette?

On a similar note. I have encountered a few times where I would want to change the 'Official Rules' section to clarify them.  I cannot find a current example.  I am curious as to the best way to approach changing 'Official' portion of some pages.  Thanks.

Dominion General Discussion / Cover-up Cards?
« on: January 04, 2019, 10:54:58 am »
Hello, hello

For some reason I am recalling seeing some sort of 'Cover' card as part of one of the original Dominion games.  If I recall it may have been intended to be used to cover up some of the card's text during play?  If so, does anyone have an image of this 'Material' item?

Thanks

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Who has all the expansions?
« on: January 04, 2019, 08:55:53 am »
Who has all the expansions?
We the short answer is ... I do, but not REALLY, because if you include the 2nd Editions, Big Boxes, Special Editions and Non-English versions, I suspect only Donald X might be the only one.  And I doubt anyone has that kind of money.

Game Reports / No Original Startup Deck Cards - Heirlooms and Shelters
« on: December 21, 2018, 10:40:50 am »
Wanted to use all the Heirlooms in the Setup deck, which left the 3 estates, which then I realized could be replaced with the shelters to make up the 'Non-original deck' theme.  The Forager worked well as the Engine option, and we added the Potion card, so thus we needed to add some cards with potion in its cost).
Note: These theme setups, may not be the 'best' of setups, but we tend to prefer to want to keep the card setups 'interesting', and just hope the other player just does not go 'Big Money' just because the setup is 'bad'.

No Original Startup Deck Cards - All Heirlooms

Cemetery
Secret Cave
Pixie   Shepherd
Tracker
Pooka
Fool
Vineyard
Alchemist
Forager

Additional cards
Shelters

Additional Setup cards required
Boon
Ghost,
Wish
Lost in the Woods

Additional non-cards included (just because we had not used them much in our past games)
Save
Dominate

Results 68 vp to 57 vp.  Forager seemed to be the 'Engine', and Dominate ended up getting used 3 times

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Card and Token quality
« on: December 21, 2018, 09:48:22 am »
Contact RGG; they may let you send the extra tokens back.
Maybe I can exchange my extra Embargo tokens for some of the tokens and/or cards I have lost (LOL), (as I hadn't played for about 1 1/2 years) and
found a few things missing when I re-tallied all of the items.
But honestly I was just curious if anyone else had noticed the quality of tokens and cards.

Additionally, when I counted my Embargo tokens, I had 18 and not 15 (as it says I should have 15 in the Rulebook)

Dominion General Discussion / Card and Token quality
« on: December 18, 2018, 11:44:52 am »
Has anyone else noticed that the Dark Ages card stock and backside of the card color is slightly lighter.
Although not a significant issue, I definitely can feel the thickness difference when dealing, and more importantly, when we have only 1 or 2 Dark Ages cards in the mix I can visually see (because of the lighter card color) that my opponent has this card in their hand or on top of their deck (and vice versa).
Additionally, I think the 1 Victory Point and 5 Victory Point tokens from Empires appears with less shaper edges (almost a worn appearance).

Dominion Strategy Wiki Feedback / 2nd Edition - Adventure Token images
« on: December 18, 2018, 09:51:54 am »
Could someone create an image of each of the tokens available for the Adventures Tokens?
Including the 1st Editions (if possible), but more importantly the images changed for the 2nd Edition.  I have a project that would use the old and new images.
Additionally, I am hoping for individual images of each of the following
- 1 single Debt Token
- 1 single Embargo Token
- 1 single 1 VP Token
- 1 single 2 VP Token
- 1 single 5 VP Token
- 1 single 1 Coffer Token
- 1 single image of each of the colors of the 6 wooden cubes

Note that with Ruins, you are supposed to use a random 10 each time; not 2 of each.
Good point... wow I have been playing the Ruins 'wrong' for all these years then.  Thanks.

Along with my storage box question (http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=19336)

I am interested to know how people organize their cards together.
I mostly sort them alphabetically, but there are a few I keep with their parent card
1. Heirlooms are kept with their parent
2. Ruins are packaged together in a pack of 10 (2 of each type, as I mostly play 2 player)
3. Prizes are with the Tournament
4. But the Spirits are alphabetize, as they are sometimes called out by a single card

I guess I am trying to determine what 'card pairs' I had not thought about in my organization of these cards

Thanks

Dominion General Discussion / Storage options?
« on: December 18, 2018, 08:57:14 am »
How do you store Dominion?
I am sure this topic has been covered extensively before, but I could not find any recent option.
I have all the games, including the update packs, including the base card set.
I had a box that would just barely fit them all, but now with Renaissance, I will need to find something new
I was using just a re-enforced box and then had some plastic boxes inside of that (something used for 'Dragon' or something like that
I have each 10 pack in sleeves in those plastic cases.  The loose tokens are in 2 jewel cases that has 4 sections.

What is out there that will fit all of this without it being very expensive ($30 is about my budget)

You could post them here. It probably wouldn't be the best though

I think the Game Reports might be a better spot for me.  If not, someone will let me know.

Game Reports / Victory is yours - Kingdom setup
« on: December 17, 2018, 01:17:26 pm »
I am experimenting with some Kingdom 'Themes'  - So my first attempt is called 'Victory is Yours'
Basically almost all of the Victory type cards with some others that interacted with Victory Point tokens also
1 Distant Lands
2 Great Hall
3 Island
4 Fairgrounds
5 Nobles
6 Shepherd (Pasture)
7 Gardens
8 Tunnel
9 Groundskeeper
10 Bureaucrat
Extra card - Shelters (Base cards)
Extra card - Tower (Landmark)
Extra card - Battlefield (Landmark)

Winner: 165 vp vs 136 vp

Note: We played the Tunnel wrong (in that when Bureaucrat attacked Tunnel gave Gold) (so we plan a remake again later)
Note: We also played Shepherd wrong (in that opponent decided (once they played their first Shepherd, despite me not having played it by this 'new rule') that the + 2 cards could, any new VP drawn this way could subsequent be discarded for +2 cards), which I played 'their Shepherd rule BTW and put all of my deck into my hand on the last turn, just to prove to them that is why their 'Shepherd rule' was not designed to be played their way.
My Fairgrounds and Gardens, countered their Bureaucrat and Groundskeeper.

Hope this is the right place to post my Themed Kingdom setups and their outcome.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Taking Notes - Against the Rules?
« on: December 17, 2018, 11:12:05 am »
After consideration of my opponents inability to memorize certain aspects of the game (they cannot remember if they bought all of the cards for Museum), I prefer to make the game more 'playable' for them (if they prefer to take notes, then I can take notes myself, but I would rather want them to play the game and enjoy it.  Just because I can remember things better should be my advantage.  I want my ability to know how to play the kingdom at hand to be the deciding factor, not my ability that I have the advantage of having more VP then they do, and end the game on piles.

I think so. Give the combos or counters the winner to further advance the helpfulness.

Where is the best place to post my Kingdom sets I have created?

Rules Questions / Re: Bureaucrat and Tunnel
« on: December 17, 2018, 10:44:38 am »
Not only does top-decking not count, but puting your deck in your discard pile, like with Messenger or Chancellor doesn't count either.

The official FAQ for Tunnel in the Hinterlands rulebook says:

Quote
This ability does not function if cards are put into your discard pile without being discarded, such as when you buy a card, when you gain a card directly (such as with Border Village), or when your deck is put into your discard pile (such as with Scavenger from Dominion: Dark Ages).

I guess I was hoping to find a direct reference that a new 'Official FAQ' would clarify the topdecking rule, something like
"... his ability does not function if cards are put into your discard pile without being discarded, such as when you buy a card, when you gain a card directly (such as with Border Village), or when your deck is put into your discard pile (such as with Scavenger from Dominion: Dark Ages), or when a card is placed on top of your deck (such as with Bureaucrat from Dominion: Base Set)..."

and

Quote
The key thing to look for is a card actually telling you to "discard" cards.

Rules Questions / Re: Bureaucrat and Tunnel
« on: December 17, 2018, 09:27:43 am »
Putting a card on top of your deck is not the same as discarding it, so no, topdecking does not meet Tunnel's discarding requirement.

Thanks.  Is there a place in the Wiki what covers this clarification about topdecking is not considered Discarding (but Bureaucrat seems to be the only card that has this effect of an attack placing an opponent cards on their deck.  This seems to counteract the 'Reaction' the 'discard' intention of the Tunnel.  Is this an oversight of the rules? Or is this an 'intentional' design of the Tunnel card?
Thanks

Rules Questions / Shepherd draws more Victory Points
« on: December 17, 2018, 09:05:19 am »
When a player discards a Victory card for +2 Cards after playing the Shepherd card, if they then draw another Victory card, does that mean they get to then again draw two more cards by discarding that Victory card? My guess is no, but my opponent thinks the card is still active (even after playing other actions after the Shepherd).  Where can I see the rule that clarifies the 'resolution' of a card is completed, because the Shepherd has been 'resolved' after the first discard.  Note: I have seen in some FAQ clarification that some cards are still 'active' (like Reactions), but I do not think that applies to Shepherd.
Note: BTW - We played using their rule, as I wanted to prove to them why it would not play that way.  This ended up with me with my entire deck in my hand and all my Victory cards in the discard pile.  Very funny play that ended the game with me buying out the rest of the Provinces.

Rules Questions / Bureaucrat and Tunnel
« on: December 17, 2018, 08:50:52 am »
Does Bureaucrats instruction for "...Each other player...' to '... puts it onto their deck...' meet the Tunnel's '"...discard this other than during Clean-up...' requirements?  My guess is yes, but I am hoping to once again 'find the rule' that covers this.
Thanks

Rules Questions / Re: Reserve Cards Timing
« on: December 14, 2018, 10:51:27 am »
Thanks for the original post.  I had this same couple of questions, and now have the answer.  I noticed that the Duplicate also could have a brief visit to the Tavern mat before being called in this scenario:

Play Duplicate from your hand, place Duplicate on Tavern mat, call Duplicate, either by playing another card that has a card gain ability, or most likely scenario, immediately after placing the Duplicate on the Tavern mat, you buy a card costing up to 6, you can call the Duplicate to gain a 2nd copy of that card.

Is it just me or have others experienced the 'Whoa - That was cool' moment when Donald X replies in one of your posts?
Not that should be a goal, because getting replies from other very active DS forum players is also just as rewarding.
So thank you to those who continue to make this forum interesting and helpful... and a little cool along the way.
