Let's Discuss ... / Re: rēs cornūcōpiae consultēmus: harvest
« on: May 15, 2016, 02:54:56 pm »
Seriously, Harvest is not that bad. Same power level as merchant ship, both shine in different situations. Both have the same use : getting more money than gold if you can play enough actions.
Excluding Big Money games (which are rarely a thing nowadays), it's extremely easy to get $4 from your harvest. If you hit $2 or $1 (!) it means that you bought harvest too early. Otherwise, you will always get $3+.
And I'm not talking about tunnel or deck-inspection tricks here. I tend to think the biggest downside oh harvest is the lack of +buy, which will make you prefer something like baron, horse traders or wine merchant as a source of money. But if you already have enough +buy, harvest is usually better than those three. I think harvest is best in average-engine games, or junking attack games with slow trashers.

Dominion: Empires Previews / Re: Empires Previews #3: VP Tokens
« on: May 15, 2016, 08:08:58 am »
Those three are my favorites from the preview so far. Temple and Chariot Race are very interesting. Overall, I like that this expansion care about victory points. That was missing from other expansions. I hope there will be a new standard Alt VP card, like Feodum in Dark Ages.

Man, I avoided Dominionstrategy for a long time because people started to talk about adventures and I wanted to discover these cards by playing them online, not by reading strategy articles about card I don't have played yet. Now, same thing will happen for Empires  :'(

17 Ghost Ship
25 Jester

31 Relic
23 Soothsayer

3 Goons

4 Cultist
- I think I would have loved this card if there wasn't the chaining effect. It's an over-powered card I dislike, but still funnier than Bridge Troll

I have not played with all the cards yet. But I really like this "new" set, adds exactly what I like in dominion : crazy creative strategies.
Cards played :
Coin of the realm - I used it to enable a conspirator chain, knowing it would probably be pretty bad. It wasn't that bad, probably because of the weakness of the board. It's a very cool card, I like the combination between weak money + good effect.
Raze - Insanely fun.
Amulet - Good duration card. Give the same feeling as pawn, squire or steward about choices.
Guide - I really like reserve cards. Guide is one of the most representative. I like how it counters attack.
Duplicate - I used it in an IGG game. I don't know if it's a good tactic or not... my opponent won because of 5/2 opening anyway.
Messenger - Right now, I applied the on-gain effect only on silver. I can see how this effect could be used well, but that would be still very situationnal I think. I like it, because I like chancellor effects.
Miser - A card I have dreamt about. Donald X did it. Very cool.
Ranger - That's draw. We always need draw.
Transmogrify - I love this card, even if I almost only used it to trash junk...
Artificer - Strong and funny card. Really like it.
Bridge troll - I don't see what this card add to the game. Attack is rather boring, and otherwise that's just a duration bridge, which doesn't seem very interesting to me. Bridge or highway are more straightforward.
Giant - I think I like it because it's probably a weak attack.
Haunted woods - I like. Curious to see it in more games, to see how strong (or not) is the attack. I guess in some context, it's a very strong card.
Storyteller - Wow. Amazing crazy draw. I used it with silver flooding in a raid in a game, and feodum in another game. And big deck generally. A surprise.
Swamp Hag - Like. Attacks in adventures seems to be weaker than in other sets : that's good.
Treasure trove - I've seen it in many games, and it always was strong. I don't understand why.
Wine merchant - Reserve card, I like reserve cards.
Hireling - I used it in a game just for the fun of buying an adventure card. Nice card.

About events, I will only say that Ferry + altar + Duke is lot of fun.

Relocated Buttons

The End Turn and End Actions buttons, as well as the Play Treasures and Play a Coin Token buttons that may appear with them, have been relocated lower to help prevent accidental clicks. (983, 2338)

The irony is that these actually make for more accidental clicks if you're used to the old locations. I believe the "End Turn" button is where the "Play All Treasures" button used to be. (This is based on my experience beta testing it.)
Just had my first game with the update : my opponent misclicked two times in a row (turn 2 and 3, opening 2/5  ;D)

Do we know how much will adventure cost online ? Does the price reduce if I own all other sets ?

25 Bishop
4 Masquerade

I agree with Dingan about the dynamic Bishop add to the game. Also, Golden Deck is a particularly unique strategy in Dominion, a thing I would have never thought if I didn't read DS. Very clever.
And masquerade... I think I like the card more for the flavour than the actual effect.

18 Apprentice
14 Butcher

Here the choice is harder : Butcher, apart from its ugly art, is a very nice card, interesting Tfb. But Apprentice is one of these very powerful $5 I enjoy the most.

Help! / Re: Beggar Counting House?
« on: April 25, 2016, 08:25:58 am »
Militia is weak against a copper-based kind of deck, but here militia remains strong, because it hurts cellar.
I'm not sure which strategy I would chose here, but the CH/Begger/Scavenger/PS thing is very tempting. Same kingdom without masquerade would be a clear victory for that strategy.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Combo: Merchant Guild/Goons
« on: April 18, 2016, 02:53:35 pm »
I'm pretty sure one more goons is a lot better than one merchant guild, but it might be good if you have only $5 and you are not afraid of terminal collision. I think the goons's auto-synergy is just too good.

Pretty impressed how my opinion is different from the rest of the world. I understand that a lot of cards lose because they are not really trasher-thinners. But still... as in the alt vp bracket, it seems like lot of fds users like strong cards more than rather weak or subtle cards  :-\

As always, I'll vote for adventure cards only if I theorically like them (I might change my vote if adventures is available meantime… lol).
Some really tough decisions… my top favorites are Procession, Develop, Farmland and Rats. Least favorite are Doctor, Governor and Ambassador (the only three names ending with -or).

Also, I love how the (presumably) strongest card of the bracket is against the weakest : Rebuild / Transmute.

Vineyard. Goons might be my least favorite alt-vp card… and I usually prefer 100% green alt-vp, because most of them are vp depending on a certain type of card, which is one of my favorite things in Dominion. (Duke, you will stay forever in my heart)

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Is Expand superfluous?
« on: April 11, 2016, 06:23:15 pm »
Expand and Forge also seems to get a little boost from later expansions ; just like most trash-for-benefit. I'm looking at Hinterlands and Dark Ages in particular (border village, IGG, Haggler, Develop, Cultist, Catacombs, Rats…). They are still weaker than most $6+ category, but sometimes there are really cool tricks to do with them.
