Variants and Fan Cards / Re: Asper's Cards

Report seems cool.

Thanks. I intended to keep it a secret until after the Event contest was done, but when you asked to update the VP, i didn't want to make an additional TS-Template just to hide it, so there it is. It's a Chancellor event, just that Chancellor is a mere bonus to its main ability. <8> might be a bit much, i guess <7> would still be okay. Maybe a non-debt cost would be even better, but i guess that depends on the card you gain.

Hmm, have you considered making the gained card worth up to 6?  I like the idea, but I don't think I would ever buy it.  It may be worth it, but it doesn't feeeeel worth it, at least to me.  If it was a card costing up to 6, it would tip the scale for me to buy it, but not be overpowered (I don't think at least).

I like your cards Asper

I like that you like my cards, Roadrunner.
I'm glad you didn't leave the forums like you said you would
I'm so glad you didn't leave.  I think your cards are f#$&ing real.  I think you have a great knack at coming up with simple, balanced cards that nevertheless unlock new possibilities that have never been seen before.  Digging your two latest ones alot

More stuff:
First card is basically something eHalcyon posted, just solved a little bit different mechanically. Original thread is here.
Second is another take at my coin token event.

This ramps the set up to 24 kingdom cards with Empires represented. Including several Events and 2 additional piles, we now have a full Treasure Chest once again - until Donald makes another game.

In the mean time, i got three cool game projects i'm working on/for. And two of those are even paid :D

Either way, if you want to try the cards, here's the TTS-Template. As a bonus, it includes the Landmark i made for the Treasure Chest contest:

Very nice.  Have you considered making Bargain cost 6, gain card costing up to 5, gain coin token?  As is, it feels quite similar to Summon.  It feels a little more fun in my mind at cost 6.

I love the idea of building an engine with four or five Invaders in it, and then waiting till your last turn to get all the provinces left so that your deck is thin until then :)

The number of Invaders just limits how many Provinces you can gain at once, so i am actually worried it might be a bit too strong. You can use it for both the mega turn strategy you describe, or for just preparing 2-3 Provinces and gaining them as soon as the pile gets low and your deck starts to choke. Both strategies suffer when your opponent bought too many Provinces first, because then you spent $7 for nothing. Time will tell how strong (and fun) the card really is.

Edit: I might also bump up the cost for Invasion to $8. Then some people will ask, why should you buy that, but asking will be the first step to seeing.

Hmm,  I kind of like the pricing the way it is right now, but agree that invaders could be a little overpowered.  Perhaps it could come with a drawback?  Or a very small boon to other players when you gain it?

The cards are designed to look roman because i made them for Empires (hooray). It offers an alternative way to Victory and i also considered costing Invader at <8> for a while. As you see, that didn't make it. The concept is kind of anti-debt: You pay first, and get stuff later.

Love these cards!!!!  I also appreciate your choice of art :)  are you a fan of Total War?  One of my favorite PC franchises.

So did you already play with the card? If so, how did you and the other players like it? :)
It's probably one of my favorite fan cards, I liked it so much that I made another card with the secret society deck! (Actually it was because the black market deck was too random, but I do love secret society.)

Can you post this other card you made?

I also love Secret Society and have played with it.  I'm quite positive it should not cost 3.  I played it at cost 4, and it was sometimes a little too powerful.

This wouldn't be an official part of the contest, but I'm wondering if there would be any interest in a couple bonus rounds for designing cards which would fit in to fan expansions. Seasons and Enterprise are the ones that jump out as obvious candidates.
Yes Yes and again yes!, also Roots and Renewal might be fun to do as well, even though it's distinctive qualities are less distinctive.

Mini-Set Design Contest / Re: The Contest Set Card List

I really like the art you got for my cards! I might try printing these now, once I figure out how I want to do that.
If you sleeve your cards, then my method works quite well. I print on my home printer using photo paper.  The images come out nice and crisp on the paper even though they are thinner than normal cards.  The sleeves help hide the thinness.

Fixed. Thanks.

So now that we have images for nearly all (excluding Amulet), Is the wording of these cards and the others posted at the front of the thread representative of the the finalized set, or are there still some changing and play testing going on? If so, what do we need to do to get these in polished form? Please excuse my ignorance of the exact status of the project. I've been dominionless for several months now. Heresy I know, but I'm trying to repent.

What do you guys think about these set icons? Is this something that we would want to add the finalized cards for this set? I tried to pick something that expressed community involvement.

Both of these look great--the small group is nice.  The problem with community projects sometimes is that they can be slow.  Would you mind mocking up all the cards with one of these set images?  I don't think it's ever going to happen unless someone does it.  Something is better than nothing even if some folks may disagree on the design.

The ability to test fan made cards would be nice.

I think that implementing a function within the client for fan made cards to be used would be very fun.

Variants and Fan Cards / Re: Change cards to use Debt
« on: June 21, 2016, 12:05:24 am »
I was thinking about whether any of the official cards might be interesting with Debt costs.  The only real idea that came to my mind, based on Donate's cost, was: What if Chapel cost ~ instead of ? It keeps it's accessibility, but has a cost that is more aligned with it's strength. Is that better or is it just stupid?

That's pretty much all I thought of, but I figured I'd post it because there might be other cards that be interesting to restrict gaining or remodeling on.

Great idea for chapel, not sure how much it is needed for other cards.

Thanks, Nflickner :)

Even though my deck builder still doesn't work, i found out how to align cards in Gimp. So, for you Tabletop-Simulator-Guys:
(Check the "use Back as Hidden" option if needed)
Thanks for this!  I got your cards loaded into TS now!

With Volcano, I think you still end up playing the engine if it is the better strategy. If you pursue a weaker strategy because of Volcano, the engine just keeps buying points instead of buying the last Province to end the game. Unless the alternate option competes closely in strength, the engine will just keep buying up points until they have 50%, and then the game has to grind to a finish with either their opponent ending the game on a loss, or the VP bloated Engine deck playing BM until it can afford the last Province without trashing too many VPs. If both players go for the engine because it has the highest win %, then they could end up stuck in a situation where neither can end the game on a win, and both players have to switch to BM and hope they luck into an $8 hand without any VP in it first.

I think figuring out how to play around it could be interesting on a lot of boards, but if this stall out scenario is common, it might make those games painful.

I completely agree with everything here.  These are my concerns as well.

Variants and Fan Cards / Re: Curse Tokens
« on: June 16, 2016, 09:43:48 am »
If you mean tokens that give you -1 VP, why not just hand out a regular +1 VP token to everyone else instead?
Yes-- the opposite of VP tokens.  And I also thought about that--that you could just give the opposite in VP tokens.  One of the reasons why they would be different is the flavor--you could make cards that are attacks with these that would be harder to make into attacks if just using VP tokens.

I'm also thinking a Landmark that gave you curse tokens in "reward" for certain actions might have a similar flavor to Defiled Shrine but offer different possibilities.

I'm sure this has probably been mentioned before, but would curse tokens work?  I'm thinking about making some events or kingdom cards that use them.  I heard that the new VP tokens in Empires are kind of different from the old ones from Prosperity, so I have an idea to paint the old Prosperity ones purple maybe to use as curse tokens :)

I like this idea, but I wish there was a way to make it happen less often.  I feel as though the game might be a little weird/slow if every player is using this event every turn.  Perhaps it should be a card, not an event, or not give you a buy.

Also, politician is an interesting card--do you think it works well in a two player game?  Most of my games are two player.  I think I like it alot, but not sure until i play it.

Sorry, i forgot to answer to this. Well, in a 2-player game, Politician is weakest, as you give 100% of your opponents a choice, and can't choose yourself. I still think it's relatively strong, and in fact i'm not sure whether it might be too strong with more players.

Either way, I like the mechanics of the card and think it will work quite well.  I think it would be interesting to have a political card that hurts selected players instead of helping them.  Also, I'm not the biggest fan of the art you picked for it.  I think it's because the politician doesn't look very medieval or ancient.  Perhaps a Roman leader would look better?  Just my thoughts.

Asper, I beg you not to call it done quite yet--a new set just came out!!!  Can't you put in a couple more to make it a round 25 cards and complete the treasure chest by including the latest expansion?  :)  This is just a ploy to get you to design more cards, which are brilliant.

Asper's cards are a work of art, and I'm nowhere near as good as him. Seeing as Asper left F.ds I thought it was worth it to change fountain. There's already a landmark called fountain so I renamed it residence. Enjoy!
It looks great! thanks :)

So now I'll have to reprint so many fan cards with different names and art. Battlefield, fountain, tomb, castle, keep, farmer's market, and maybe even more. I'd be willing to post new versions if people wanted them.

yes please post your new mock-ups in the variants forum.  I have much appreciated those you have redone in the past and will much appreciate new ones you post.  thanks  in advance :)
So here's my plan of cards to redo. N means new name, A means new art, C means different cost, and E means new effect.
Fountain A, N
Sanatarium, C
Elixir, C
Escalation, E, C
Production Village, E
Cloister, C, E
Royal Demense, E
Book of Spells, E
Enchantment, C, E
Battle Strategy, E
Bartender, E
Cabal, E
Castle, N, A
Tomb, N
Forum, E
Crystal Ball, A

Sorry I can't do more, mobile post. :P

Edit: Finished some.

thanks, I'm excited to see the finished products.  I noticed you said you have completed some, but I've only seen the one you posted on the "Asper's cards" thread (Redo of Fountain).  Are you planning on having all your redone cards on one thread so they are easier to find for those of us who appreciate them?  You could still give credit where credit is do, but it may be easier to find if they are also collected on a thread you start.  Just an idea.

Variants and Fan Cards / Re: Dominion: Seasons
« on: May 24, 2016, 11:02:54 am »
I like that it's a Traveller that's worse if you pick it up as part of your opening. Nice idea that uses the Season mechanic in a simple but meaningful way. Not sure it's enough to discourage buying it, but it gives waiting another shuffle a small buff. Although of course whether it's a buff or not depends on what exactly Outlaw does. If it's terminal draw, the Silver is (more often) good. If it's a Village, the Silver is usually bad, and i'd intentionally pick it up in Spring so i don't get a Silver. Nice idea either way.
Thanks Asper,  Here is a new idea that I've touched up:

It makes it more playable later on for a variety of decks.  It also gives a bigger penalty if you want to play it in Spring.  The idea is that you want to play it as early as possible because the later Travellers are kind of a race, but it sucks to play it early.
I also remembered to add my setup clause for the Dragon card, which is explained in my first post further up.  It's a card that attacks everyone in the game periodically through the seasons until it is destroyed by the last card in the traveller line.
