Priest would be broken with Watchtower and Travelling Fair. If you play two Priests and have a Watchtower in hand, you can alternate between buying Travelling fairs and Coppers (then curses) for a net gain of 112 coins, giving you more than enough money to buy all the provinces.

Even with a single Priest, you can trash all the Coppers and Curses, which makes a three pile extremely easy.

I'm getting the hang of Warlord difficulty, and after a breezy Culture victory as China I'm ready to move up to warlord I think. I doubt I'll ever get up to Deity because I don't enjoy the stress and strategy of really high levels. All the reviews I heard were right, this game is really fun and addicting.

I'm interested to hear the discussion behind the wording of Experiment. It's really awkward, but I can't think of a better wording off the top of my head.

"You gain these in pairs." --> then explain this in the rulebook.

I see where you're coming from, but that's pretty clunky. And referring people to the rulebooks like that was a pretty big no-no I'm guessing. My best bet would be: "When you gain this, gain another Experiment, not following its on-gain instructions." Similar to Enchantress.

25 kingdom cards

Does that mean no Victory cards?

25 sideways cards

I'm betting for the return of Events, Landmarks, or States.

12 wooden cubes

For artefacts, I'm guessing.

6 playmats, and 35 tokens

Coffer mats and coin tokens?

- a card with only 3 words on it; a card with only 4 words on it

Probably something with projects and artefacts, like "Build a project" or "Take an Artefact token." Perhaps on a treasure, because aren't words?

three ways to play Actions in your Buy phase

Guessing these will be card-specific, like Action-Treasure or Action-Reaction cards. I highly doubt we're just getting an "play an action" on a Treasure or something. Seems like a prime target for rules hazards.

Spent some time reading up on the guide and manual, and won my first game at Warlord difficulty as Ethiopia through Diplomatic Victory with the Apostolic Palace.

EDIT: Warlord difficulty, not Noble.

So what will action tokens be called?  If we follow the pattern so far, they’ll be called Acffers.

Looks like I'm a bit late to the party. Continuing the tradition, the next expansion will have +Buy tokens called Buffers. How fitting.

Can't wait till we will inevitably come full circle with +VP token tokens.

Is there a realistic chance that Donald brings a Renaissance prototype to Essen this year?
There is not. There is however a realistic chance of having English copies of Renaissance at Essen.

Inb4 shipping delays.

I would be curious to hear what you think of CIV, theta :)

Yeah! Disclaimer: I'm quite the noob at Civ.

So it was a bit of a pain to get it working, the game kept on freezing when trying to skip the intro and eventually crashed my whole PC at least twice. Also, Fullscreen mode was glitchy when minimizing to do other things. Fortunately, I figured out that you just needed to wait 5 seconds and not click anything and it would pop back up easily. And I disabled the intro movie so in the end, I got it running really smoothly.

The first game I played as Greece (IIRC) on Cheiftan difficulty. As I expected, it was a pretty breezy game and by 1950 or so I had a pretty hardcore military. I could have won by domination or just have played the game out, but I ended up winning by Space Race.

Next, I tried a game on Warlord as I-forget-who. I expected it to be about as easy, but I ended up getting smashed around 1400 because I hadn't invested in the military. I guess the other civs will automatically try to attack you if you're weak enough? I tried again as England but only held off slightly better before caving to attacks by multiple civs on multiple fronts.

By this point, I was getting a little frustrated and tuned the difficulty back to Cheiftan. It was a little wimpy, but I don't particularly enjoy getting my butt kicked, and I wanted to spend some more time just familiarizing myself with the game. I couldn't finish my playthrough, but again it was pretty breezy.

As for the game itself, it's much better than Civ III and definitely less "clunky" as you said. A couple things stood out as obvious improvements; the government types were better explained, movement and combat were nicer, and recommended buildings and techs made the first game easier. I'm still getting used to the new things though, Religion and Espionage were kinda ignored the first game and I still don't fully understand how they work. And the new Diplomacy/Government/Military/X advisors are a little harder to use in some cases. Navigating diplomacy actually feels like a downgrade. When you exit it takes you back to the map instead of the diplomacy chart, making me need to f4 spam if I want to see if any of the civs will declare war on somebody. In addition, there's no way to view diplomacy when presented with a deal, so I don't have the choice of figuring out what my relations to Alexander are before I join Isabella in combat against him.

The game's super fun, and I hope once I grasp the intricacies I can start getting into the strategy and playing at higher difficulties.

Civ IV is 75% off on Humble Bundle right now, only $7.50 for the complete version. I just picked up a copy and am looking forward to playing it, I've been told it's the best of the series.

You might need a guide to play it, but it’s good. Civfanatics.com has a lot of resources for it.

I'll probably try to find some tutorial to help when I boot it up over the weekend. I've already played Civ III though, is IV that different?

I tried replaying Civ IV, Beyond the Sword recently. It felt weird, because you have so many more "micro-decisions" to make. Lots of tech, units, and, land improvements are needed as each individual instance of them is low impact. I remember that expansion having the AI always go for "stacks of doom", but it seems they play in a much more interesting way when on the defensive. They spread out their units to defend several cities at once and are willing to send out units to poke at gaps in your army (there is a Rock-Paper-Scissors element to the combat). It was actually kind of enjoyable. Oh and the music is really cool. Who can forget this classic: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=en71FxPnv2o

I would say give it a go, but I think I prefer Civ VI to it. Civ VI just felt like it doesn't have a bunch of the more tedious elements of older Civ games.

I've usually heard that IV was the best. Next time there's a good sale I'll probably pick up VI or V.

Reminds me of this old thing from way back when:

It went through a couple revisions, but I think I only tested it in one game. It was fun, but a tad clunky.

Many many were reworded, but just a few were reworded to alter the function of the card: Embargo, Masquerade, Mine, Moneylender, Outpost, Possession, Scheme, Stash, Throne Room and Trade Route. Possession was already changed via a ruling (in Empires rulebook), but then changed again in the printed 2nd edition card. In addition there are the Guilds cards that use "Coffers". I have more details in the document in my sig.

It's also on the Wiki: http://wiki.dominionstrategy.com/index.php/Second_edition

What's the functional difference in Embargo?

"Embargo was changed so each Curse gained per token on a pile is a separate event, rather than gaining all of them at once."

The cost makes no difference, seeing as you need to pay it off before you can buy anything.

This card is very similar to the Herald in the Dominion outtakes, particular the one in the Guilds outtakes. I suspect it's actually much stronger than it looks bases on the stories Donald X. talks about.

I've played a couple games with Bells, and I remember nerfing it heavily each successive game. I think I got to a version that revealed the top 2, plays an action and put the other back. It was a little weak for , but it was manageable.

Why is Gallow a Looter? It doesn't have anything to do with Ruins.

It makes the card more powerful by putting the Ruins in the supply. buy them with the +Buy and then they're easy fodder.

119
You know, while you're at it, it would be easier for you just to add the Renaissance cards, right?  ;)

I imagine the best result would involve KC-KC-KC-Artisan-Artisan gaining some sweet actions, then almsing a Villa with the pathfinding token and setting up a chain. You could probably go unbounded with this involving a loop too.

So, Renaissance was just announced... This might change everything again.

Yeah, you should probably rename Artifact.

Just call it Artefact, boom problem solved.

I interpret the Fool's Gold flavor as a commentary on fiat currency.  The more Fool's Gold gets used and accepted as currency, the more value it has.  Unlike Silver and Gold, the value isn't in the commodity itself, but in its use as a medium of exchange.
What's the conversion rate of Fool's Gold to Schrute Bucks?

The same as the ratio of Unicorns to Leprechauns. So since Leprechauns cost , then that makes a Shrute Buck what, 1.5?

If we're talking about problems with this forum, how many accounts is this for you now?

It's getting hard to count the banned ones.

Oh man, this is a good trivia question. I remember Tristan, then Weety4, then I go blank. Lemme research to find the definitive list.

I feel like there was a fifth one recently though, anybody have any ideas?

That distinction, by the way, is a factoid that has been relevant to my life exactly one time.

You all totally missed this one, guys. A "factoid" is not a little fact, it's something that seems like a fact but isn't.

Not necessarily, most dictionaries give a secondary (in some cases primary) definition of factoid as "a brief or trivial item of news or information" or some variation thereof. That seems to be the meaning Screwyioux was going for.

What about a permanent cost reduction?

Well, there's Prince and Bridge. I mean, at this point the answer to "permanent X" is Prince + X.
