The mu and other information listed with the games is for that opponent.

In the screenshot it shows that you won 4 games to an expected 3.5 and correspondingly your mu is projected to go up.

Groups and standings are now in the second post.

Assuming a release date of sometime this week, please play a match (as described in the rules) against each of the two members of the group by the end (US Eastern time) of Sunday, November 18.

Reporting the result in a post here or by notifying (@) me on discord are both fine.

Confirmations are closed. If you are listed in the second post you are in the tournament. Groups coming tomorrow.

With release likely coming next week, I have established hard dates for each round of the tournament, which can be seen in the opening post and below. I have also sent out confirmations to the participants; those who have confirmed will see their names bolded in the second post here.

Round timing (noting that league is running simultaneously to this tournament, I am trying to give at least 1 week per match, and perhaps more earlier):
First group round: Release until Sunday, November 18 (hard deadline)
Second group round: End of first round until Monday, December 3
Semifinals: End of second round until Monday, December 10
Final: After semifinals

Obviously I have not made groups as promised and this is because of the significantly later start date than I had anticipated. I will send out private messages roughly a week and a half before the start to reconfirm with the participants that they are active and want to play, and form the groups after these confirmations.

And with that we are at 36 players and I am closing signups for good.

I will modify the first post to be consistent with this size later today and will form the groups based on the rating update tomorrow.

The latest I have heard is that release will be mid-October and will send out a reminder once I know a solid date.

This filled a lot faster than I had expected and since they will not do you much good right now, I will wait until the rating update 0 UTC Thursday September 27 to form groups. If for some reason you will be unable to play please tell me by then.

I am also considering expansion to 36 players should that many sign up, so feel free to keep going.

Signups to 27 are filled and I do not want to go larger to keep the tournament from going too long. If anybody wants to sign up as a substitute in the case of a drop out before the start of the tournament please do.

I cannot find you on scavenger under the same username as here - so either you have not played any rated games or I need your Dominion Online username.

Since this is filling uncomfortably fast I'll add myself now rather than a few days in.

I will also conditionally expand to 27 should the need aside with a group final - the first 18 are guaranteed and any after that are conditional on 27 signups being reached.

Renaissance: The Tournament

A new expansion brings a new tournament, and this one comes with a twist: it starts day 1.

This tournament, featuring the Renaissance expansion, will start the first day Renaissance is available and last for 5-6 weeks thereafter.

Tournament Structure

There will be 36 participants who will be initially divided into 12 groups of 3. Each group winner will advance to one of four groups of 3, and the winners of these groups will play a 4 person single elimination bracket. This means each participant is guaranteed at least 2 matches.

Within each group, each player will play both of the other members. The group standings will be determined first by matches won, then head-to-head record, then number of games lost.

Sorting into groups will be done through a snake order from seeding by Shuffle iT mu as soon as signups are filled.

Round timing (noting that league is running simultaneously to this tournament, I am trying to give at least 1 week per match, and perhaps more earlier):
First group round: Release until Wednesday, November 21
Second group round: End of first round until Wednesday, December 5
Semifinals: End of second round until Wednesday, December 12
Final: After semifinals

Match Structure

Each match will be played first to 3 wins. Tied games do not count towards scoring.

The first game should be played with 2 cards required from Renaissance, with each subsequent game adding 2 to this number (so for example a fourth game in a match would require 8 Renaissance cards) - in the event of a tie, play another game with the same number of cards.

Starts should alternate with the first game's first player decided randomly.

Spectator Friendliness

As with all of my tournaments, I require 3 things to make this tournament enjoyable for spectators:

  • ‘Players can see Spectator chat’ must be turned off
  • Spectators must be allowed to see the hands of both players
  • All matches must be announced at least 1 hour in advance on the Dominion discord or on the match calendar at least 12 hours in advance, optionally (and preferably) both

Signups

Signups are closed. Please see the post below for a list of participants.

I expect that any person who signs up will subscribe to Renaissance as soon as it is available for at least the duration of this tournament.

I am not making any rules against people who have participated in any sort of testing of this expansion participating; any restriction other than the subscription comes from some other power.

Match Reporting

Please report the result of your matches in this thread and how many games were won by each player.

As always, have fun!

Dominion Articles / Re: Chariot Race
« on: September 18, 2018, 01:47:48 pm »
For comparison blog article I sort of wrote earlier this year: https://dominionstrategy.com/2018/04/27/chariot-race/.

I think one thing that isn't mentioned specifically in either article that is worth noting is just how much Chariot Race allows you to take advantage of having a better deck than your opponent - you shouldn't go gaining only 3 if your opponent is carrying 5+ cards in the $0-2 range around.

42
This probably belongs in variants.

Anyways, first it should be noted that not all of these could actually work as supply cards since you can't separate then from their supply aspect - most notably Bat, where if you can get a Vampire from it, it may as well cost $5. I'll make a nice list here of the ones I think actually would work as supply piles.

Spoils: 3
Bag of Gold: 5
Followers: 4
Trusty Steed: 6
Treasure Hunter: 4
Hero: 5
Soldier: 3
Fugitive: 5 but can't cost that so doesn't work
Disciple (with a no self-gaining clause, else doesn't work): 6 and would be the single best card in Dominion by a fair amount
Imp: 3
Ghost: 5

43
Fortunately, this announcement brings clarity to the Coffers renaming: the tokens that save coins had to be renamed to Coffers so that the ones that save actions could be called Coin Tokens.

Measure it in turns not coins.

48
A deck that contains only Possessions and Villages will never dynamically arise in practice so this example is mildly ludicrous.

You have no idea how much I wish that this was true.

This should link to all 5 matches for me from this season. Audio on the first two is icky, for the latter three should be better when I'm not mumbling which I do sort of frequently.
