If you are in a keep that you own, or in a hex adjacent to a keep that you own, your maximum hand size is increased by 1 for each keep that you own (even if some of those other keeps are far away).  This effect only works if you start the turn in a space in your keep or adjacent to your keep.

You are next to a keep that you own, are you not?

Since relativistically speaking I have a lot more to contribute about Innovation than Dominion, making this post is kinda shooting myself in the foot as any sort of effort to win the popularity contest of imaginary points.

But as much as I like innovation, I recognize things that go in certain boxes belong in certain boxes, and it seems like if this site is still DominionStrategy, then you shouldn't get respect for posting about Innovation strategy.

I mean, theorel made a really reasoned, informative post about the different tactic cards available in Mage Knights the other day, and I was unable to give him any respect.  But then I turned around and made a post in the innovation subforum and I got a respect for it.  Is Innovation a more dominionish game than Mage Knights?  Mage Knights has deckbuilding so probably not.

I don't want to contribute to identity crisis in a negative way.  Just something that's been on my mind.

Innovation General Discussion / Re: tools sadness
« on: March 18, 2013, 08:17:30 pm »
I made the mistake twice, then learned my lesson.

On a separate note from how dougz decides to implement tools, from a rules perspective I've never understood how rules like this are interpreted this way in gaming.  To me, intuitively, when I see "You may return three cards from your hand", it means that I can return 3 cards, all at once, in one shebang.  Like in Monty Python:

Quote
And the Lord spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then, shalt thou count to three. No more. No less. Three shalt be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out

In my humblest opinion, I think this counterintuitive nature of the card is more to blame for confusion than for how dougz decided to implement it.  If the card was something like, "L: You may return a card from your hand.  If you do, score two cards of value one less than the card returned.  L: You may return a [3] from your hand.  If you do, draw 3 [1]'s." I think people would intuitively be looking out to see which effect they were returning to.

In fact, I'm not sure I've ever seen anyone return a 3 and two other cards and then tell me they did so by mistake.  They tend to recognize that they have the ability to comply completely with the first may-offer.

This isn't unique to innovation at all, ftr.  An opposing Vault from Dominion lets you discard one card, but then draw nothing, if you only have one card in hand.  And Mind Rot from MtG is an instruction that is half obeyed when you use it on an opponent.  I think it dances around stuff like Tools by having costs work differently from effects though.

The point of the comic is that there are no edge cases.  Turn 0 (article) is 105 discrete possibilities, and 105 recommendations.  There is no edge case remaining.

This thread died?

What about Alchemist, Navigator, Banker, Pirate, Monument guy (or something) and other titles that are references to both Dominion and Innovation? Would be totally awesome, though we'd have to cut down on the number of different titles.
Colonist.

I think there are some others.

But, paper.

*To achieve achievement number n, one of your top cards also have to be at least n.

This, I've found, is probably the most commonly missed rule in Innovation.
If you buy the physical game, the rule is bolded in the rules, and is followed by a sentence to the effect of, "We bolded this sentence because this tends to be the most commonly missed rule in Innovation"

Innovation Articles / Re: Article request: Sharing
« on: March 18, 2013, 11:08:45 am »
I don't feel the urge to write a lengthy sharing article, but I'll point out this: a great way to overcome natural human biases about sharing is to put "the burden of evidence" on your standard draw action.  Every turn, I always ask myself, "Do I have proof that sharing Metalworking is worse than drawing a card normally?".  If I can't prove to myself that is the case, I share the dogma.

Even that statement is not necessarily true though.  Shared Masonry allows your opponent to achieve Monument before you can.  Possession of the mass-meld card doesn't matter much if you don't also have the icons backing it up.

4991
You sold me pretty hard on tactic 4.  Why are you helping your opponents?

And when I said I had the least fame, I meant tied.  I've been playing lots of innovation, where your highest top card is any card tied for your highest, etc.

Where is Qvist :(

Haha, that's fine.

Pops (when you get back): When do you think you'll post in this thread again?

Probably in twenty minutes I guess.

Watno, what's in your clipboard?

I don't see the benefit to going first if you're not racing to see who gets to something first

I started lots of mafia discussion in the defense of monopoly thread.  Then theory suggested we play a game.  I modded it because I wanted to encourage a good mafia meta.  There's lots of different approaches towards the game, some of them less competitive than I'd like.

Watno, are you certain that sentence is grammatically correct?

I don't know.  There's a lot of roses around where I live, so roses I guess?

Robz: What is Link holding in that picture?  I can't quite tell what it is.

Yep! I'ts the Gilded Sword. I'm something of a Zelda fanboy, and Majora's Mask is my favorite of the games.

Pops: You played it?
Yes.  Which mask is the best?

It's a sword.  It's the upgraded sword you get in Majora's Mask, using the gold dust and your old sword and some rupees.  If I'm not mistaken.
