2015 / Losers' Bracket Rules
« on: August 26, 2015, 04:09:43 pm »
Losers' Bracket Rules
  • Signups for round L1 will open when the main tournament signups end. This round will be open to anyone who missed the main tournament or who loses in round 1.
  • Signups for round L1 will close approximately 2 days after the round 1 deadline.
  • Signups for subsequent rounds will roughly correspond to the time frames of their main tournament counterparts (+2 days). These signups are only open to those players who lost in the corresponding round in the main tournament.
  • Each round of the Losers' Bracket will be reseeded so that top half (by seed) remaining faces the bottom half (by seed) - the bottom half will be randomized, with the constraint that players will not be paired if they already played in the main tournament.
  • If an odd number of players are in a given round, a bye will be given to the highest seed amongst players who have been in the Losers' Bracket the longest, have not already received a bye, and have played at least one match in either bracket.
  • Seeding for players who missed main tournament signups will be estimated based on their position on the isotropish leaderboard at the time seeds were determined.
  • If you are unable to contact your opponent in a round, let me know so that I can remind them. If a match still doesn't happen despite one of the players making an effort, that player will be awarded a bye and the other will be eliminated. If both players flake, it will be a double elimination.
  • Match structure and settings will be the same as in the main tournament.

Goko Dominion Online / The Dominion Online Championship Belt
« on: June 29, 2015, 07:19:47 pm »
(Inspired by College Football Lineal Championship)

I was curious what a lineal championship history might look like for Dominion, so I started (arbitrarily) with the last Stef-Mic Qsenoch game on May 31 and tracked the championship as follows (changes only):

Stef 22-19 Mic Qsenoch
Burning Skull 81-63 Stef
Stef 18-8 Burning Skull
hdu88 32-28 Stef
dudeabides 39-29 hdu88
hdu88 37-34 dudeabides
dudeabides 18-15 hdu88
Karler 33-25 dudeabides
TryAgainLater 41-39 Karler
rokko 36-18 TryAgainLater
dudeabides 40-30 rokko
terminalCopper 25-(-1) dudeabides
hirotashi 32-25 terminalCopper
terminalCopper 58-44 hirotashi
dercatenaccio 19-7 terminalCopper
Jeebus 38-28 dercatenaccio
Wandering Winder 40-39 Jeebus
Marin 40-35 Wandering Winder
Wandering Winder 8-4 Marin
Marin 43-22 Wandering Winder
Wandering Winder 35-8 Marin
Marin 36-15 Wandering Winder
Wandering Winder 27-14 Marin
Marin 35-22 Wandering Winder
jaybeez 30-0 Marin
Jeebus 36-28 jaybeez
YOSHIBALL 54-37 Jeebus

Not a bad selection of players, considering the belt is changing hands on a single game - most players are in the top 100, a couple more close, with one short run in the level 20 range. I'd be interested to see this sort of thing run on a longer time frame (if someone with more scripting skills wants to take that on), but mostly just wondering if it would yield anything remotely sensible and thought I'd share.

Forum Games / Sheep Game D (a Single Submission Game - 5/?)
« on: January 22, 2013, 05:08:19 pm »
In Sheep, each player submits 5 answers for each of 10 categories. The goal is to give what you think will be popular answers amongst the other players. Your score for each answer is the number of players (counting yourself) who submit that answer, unless you submit a "Black Sheep" (no one else submitted it) in which case you get nothing. The answers can range from examples of the category ("Eagle" or "Larry" for Bird), to components of the category ("Beak"), to various forms of word association ("Lady" or "Burred"). Answers should not, however, include the category or a part of the category; for example, if the category is Cards, don't submit "Playing Cards", but "Playing" is fine.

Outside research is fine, but no collusion.

I will be lenient with alternate spellings/misspellings, capitalization, and abbreviation. Any other differences will be considered as two different answers. You can hedge if you aren't sure which version others will go for (i.e. for Zen Master you could submit both "Coach Jackson" and "Phil Jackson", and these will be treated as two separate and distinct answers, despite being the same person), though it's not usually wise.

Please submit your answers as follows:

"1. [Category] - [Answer], [Answer], [Answer], [Answer], [Answer]
2. etc."

There are 10 boxes. Box 1 is worth 1 point, Box 2 is worth 2 points, and so on up to Box 10, worth 10 points.

There are 10 players. Each player has 10 chits.

To join the game, post here and then send me a PM assigning your 10 chits to the 10 boxes. If you put the most chits in a box, you win that box and its points! If there is a tie for the highest number of chits, no one gets the box. (Note: If you don't post here and send a PM, you will not be signed up - I will take the first 10 who do both and submit a valid assignment.)

Whoever gets the most total points wins. Tiebreaker rule: whoever wins the most boxes wins ties between players finishing with the same number of points. If players are still tied, they rejoice in their shared victory!

Forum Games / For Sale Express (a Double Submission Game - Cancelled)
« on: December 14, 2012, 07:08:14 pm »
This is a compressed version of the classic auction filler, For Sale.

In the first round, you will be bidding simultaneously on five lots of properties. Each player will have $14 to bid. You do not have to use all of your available money, and any leftover will carry over to the final scoring. Once the bids are in, whoever bid the most on a lot gets the highest valued property within that lot, and so on to the lowest bid. The properties are valued from 1-30.

Tiebreakers:
1. Lowest "tiebreaker score". When ties are resolved, each player involved in the tie will receive tiebreaker points equal to the the difference in value of the property they received and the highest valued property plus the difference in the value of the property they received and the lowest valued property.
2. If the tiebreaker scores are equal, whoever signed up earlier (determined by posting in this thread) will win the tiebreaker.

Example: Lot 1 contains properties 3, 9, 10, 17, 22, 29. Players A-F bid $2, $5, $3, $3, $2, and $3 respectively. Played B receives property 29 for bidding the most. Players C, D, and F all tie for properties 10, 17, and 22, and since this is the first lot they all have a tiebreaker score of 0. As the first to sign up, player C receives property 22 and a tiebreaker score of (22-22) + (22-10) = 12. Player D receives property 17 and a tiebreaker score of (17-22) + (17-10) = 2. Player F receives property 10 and a tiebreaker score of (10-22) + (10-10) = -12. Players A and E tie for the last two properties, and player A receives property 9 with a tiebreaker score of 6, while player E receives property 3 with a tiebreaker score of -6.

In the second round, you will again be bidding simultaneously, this time offering one of your properties in each of five markets; the highest valued property in a market gets the biggest check, and so on. The checks are valued 0 and 2-15, with two of each check.

To join, post here and then send me your submission for round 1.

Round 1:

Lot 1: 5, 6, 15, 22, 23, 27
Lot 2: 1, 3, 12, 13, 16, 25
Lot 3: 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 21
Lot 4: 4, 17, 19, 24, 28, 30
Lot 5: 2, 14, 18, 20, 26, 29

Round 2:

Market 1: $0, $2, $3, $3, $11, $14
Market 2: $0, $4, $5, $5, $10, $11
Market 3: $8, $9, $10, $12, $12, $13

Non-Mafia Game Threads / Rectangles (a Single Submission Game - Results!)
« on: December 11, 2012, 05:50:04 pm »
This is a simplification of a game called Circles, by Zandor of the GL.

To enter, submit the bottom-left and top-right coordinates of a rectangle; all coordinates must be natural numbers from 0-100 inclusive.

For each unit square within the 100x100 playing region, a point will be awarded to the smallest (by area) rectangle containing that square. Ties for area will split the point.

Non-Mafia Game Threads / Convex Hull (a Single Submission Game, Results!)
« on: December 07, 2012, 05:57:34 pm »
Another gem from The Grey Labyrinth, credit to Zandor.

To join the game, post here and then send me a PM giving a point inside the square (±100,±100) - that is, send me an x-value and a y-value, each between -100 and +100. Your coordinates do not have to be integers. From the points submitted, the convex hull will be determined.

Anyone submitting a point on the boundary of the convex hull loses. If you are inside the boundary, your score is the distance between your point and the origin, (0, 0).

Example image of a convex hull (think of it like putting a big rubber band around the points so that all the points are either touching the band or inside):
