I played a few games on the Donate/Market Square board and was surprised at how well Summon/Black Market/Menagerie played.

With unique cards coming out of the Black Market deck, Menagerie is almost always active, and Summon lets you start each turn with a few Villages before you find more in the Black Market deck.

On that note - I actually like skipping Peasant on this board. The terminal space is pretty tight early on and later on the deck builds up quickly, even without Teacher tokens.

breppert:  Yeah, the only reasonable explanation is that he just does not see CoTR
Dan Brooks:  It's an anti-terminal splitter Taco
daavor:  sounds yummy
Dan Brooks:  I get one every time I got to taco bell
breppert:  I'm gonna head to Costco to get tacos right after this now, thanks Dan
Dan Brooks:  Ship some to me @Breppert
daavor:  is that a vacuous truth dan?
Dan Brooks:  @Daavor yes
Seprix:  I'm getting tacos after this now
daavor:  man i should get tacos

A long, enjoyable match with Skumpy in the round of 64

New proposal: action is renamed "taco"

Then you can say, "my village gives me +2 tacos"

80
"Dan got actions from Possession on Caravan Guard"

That sounds pretty sweet!

The bot seemed pretty good. I opened Vassal/Poacher and played a double Sentry Vassal stack with no attacks (8-10 coins in deck total). The tendency of the bot to buy 4 Sentries makes it overbuild a bit when it's not taking curses

On money - Call it money. If the deck is competing against an overbuilt engine, "Province rush" also works

On +action - Call it +action, i.e. "Throne Room is the only way to get +action here"

Somewhere in the 7000 range is knowing where certain decks and deck matchups are going to end up at the end of the game.  Hearing someone say, "This game will take 11-13 turns" always blows me away.

Like, have you played with Governor? :)

I notice that you haven't mentioned anything about trying to score Labyrinth points. Is it a red herring and not worth going out of your way for on this board?

I wouldn't go too far out of the way to get Labyrinth points, although with Bridge Troll and Hermit in the deck, some will come naturally

I'm a little surprised that people aren't opening militia, but buying it later. On a board where I want militia and getting five-costs is important, I have a hard time not opening with it in the hope that I can prevent my opponent from getting that early 5 (especially if I'm first player).

So is there something about this board that makes that not matter? Or am I overestimating how much of a set back a potential missed 5-cost would be? Is the extra cycling of something like Magpie just more important early game?

The Magpie lead snowballs, and getting an early Magpie can help.

Magpie/Sage is an interesting opening as well, although I think the Sage might trigger too many bad shuffles.

I'd open Magpie/Gladiator, looking to play Governor/Militia

I recently played Rebuild naming "Tactician" which hit an unexpected green card - not the most tactical of plays

Uncontested ~7-8 Bridge Trolls is winning, so...

Open Ferry/Sentry for thinning

Then pick up a few Hermits and Ferry on Bridge Troll

You'll want to set up back to back turns of 1-2 Madmen followed by 3-4 Bridge Trolls

I would probably pull the trigger with 3-4 Madmen and 3-4 Bridge Trolls in the deck, then buy 3-4 additional Bridge Trolls on the next turn

Peddler/Advisor are good too - pick those up when you can

If Bridge Trolls are contested, it's going to come down to dancing around piles

Perhaps the 10,000 ft level can be finding the elegant plays?

Playing with single terminal decks on boards without villages
Buying cards on turn 3 that end up being good on turn 9
Overdrawing by 1 card to ensure that you play all of your actions
Greening without introducing the possibility of dud turns

And generally, looking for lines that are as close to 100% reliable as possible

There was a discussion on the fastest way to make the engine go "boom" on this board - and go "boom" it did!

I feel like 10,000 could be understanding the intricacies of the current board - a skill that gets better with experience and much better with practice

So there are two primary tactics with Sauna/Avanto:

1. Contest the pile, aiming to win the split

2. Ignore the pile, forcing the Sauna player to pick up 4-5 Sauna and 2-3 Silver before Avantos

Tactic #1 seems to be the most common, although I like playing with #2, when possible

There are a lot of boards where it's not entirely clear to me which is better

Regarding Sauna/Avanto, see game 2 of Dan Brook's match (starts about 32 minutes in) and Donald's comment on it:

Game 2, Dan Brooks opens Hermit / Magpie. He only ends up with one Sauna, buying e.g. Pawn over Sauna. The first time he can get Avanto, he gets Festival instead. He ends up with 1 Sauna 3 Avantos to his opponent's 4 Saunas 2 Avantos. He goes on to win the game, for all the world like the presence of Sauna / Avanto didn't make this a dull luckfest.

Borrowing from my other post, Sauna just isn't a good dominion card without the "you may play an Avanto from your hand" line of text.

And if you make your opponent buy most of the Saunas, your deck will likely be in good shape to deny most of the Avantos.

Of course, this game I could have ignored Avanto altogether and threatened an Estate pileout with Festival/Hunting Grounds, but I didn't see that until after the game.

Well, Sauna isn't that good in the early. So if you can trick your opponent into buying most of them, you can often take away most of the Avantos with a stronger deck.

That game, I think I should have gone for an overdrawn Festival/Hunting Grounds deck to threaten an early Estate pileout with 1 Sauna and at most 1 Avanto.

Also, here's a Mandarin/Capital video:

Your scoreboard that you placed in the bottom left corner blocks how many cards are left in your deck and blocks part of the vp counter as well. You could probably re-position it higher up and narrower ("DB" vs. "R") to avoid blocking these.

The right side of the log/chat is also getting cut off. We want to see your splendid wit!
