Im sure the average person whom reads this does'nt even now what they could of done differently. Extraneous apostrophe's are just so prevalent; there everywhere. Ya'll should be more empathic.

Sentences like this one should be allowed to be used for a self-defense justification for homicide.  "You honor, I was protecting myself and others.  If I hadn't shot him, my head would have exploded.  The shrapnel could have harmed or killed bystanders."

So I went and looked at this, then checked a couple other things... it appears that solo play is no longer allowed?  What the hell?

(1) Go to log in (because someone mentioned a couple of new features).  Login fails, wrong password.  OK, apparently I forgot my password, no problem:

(2) Click "Forgot Password." Put in email address.  That fails; email address is invalid.  "Aha!" says Kirian, I must have used my other email address.  "I'll go click Login and use that email address."

(3) Go to click "Log In."  Already logged in.

[Leo Dicaprio squint]  Huh?

One minor addition...

Choke - same as 'Clog (or Bloat, Gum Up...)'. 'My engine choked after gaining 3 curses'.

welcome to the forums! much of this topic has been moved to our wiki site, so a change there might be more effective than a change here. you can find the relevant page here.

i think i'll go in and modify the OP to include the wiki link too.

Huh, I had no idea you'd wikified this!  Cool, thank you.

Highlight the OP text,

Quote
Hey, I was bored and I'm a huge nerd so I made a series win probability calculator in excel. It's still mostly functional in google docs and open office if you don't have excel.

Just plug in each player's mean skill and who goes first. Also you can adjust the first turn advantage parameter.

And then bring your cursor to the right.  You should get the attachment from chrome.

Got nuttin'.  Weird.

Edited:  Ohhhhhh.  You meant click-and-drag to the right.  That's quite a bit difference.

Also, genetic linkage: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genetic_linkage#LOD_score_method_for_estimating_recombination_frequency

Since I'm not seeing the word logistic in there, are you willing to explain how OD/LOD is related to the logistic function?  I did linkage analysis for about a year and a half and always simply treated it as a Bayesian probability analysis.  (Granted, the word Bayesian isn't in that article either, which makes me less than impressed with that WP article).

Regardless of how you do it there will always be complaints and opinions.

I wish to complain about the complaints!

But seriously, thank you guys for setting this up.  I know what it's like to run a tournament like this!

Witch appears to have the most well-known good players with lower-than-expected seeds (from not playing).  And has Marin, Geronimoo, and boloni?  Yeah, count me...

...you mean I'm set up to play Marin in Round 2?  Crap.  Time to work on by BM play.

Highlight the text and move your cursor to the right.

Highlight which text?  (Not that it matters much, the bug is in SMF I'm sure, and not particular to this forum).

This calculator really highlights some cool things!

1. The necessity of a multiple-round matchup.  My advantage in my first round only moves from 76.6% to 74.5% when going from 50% (really, "none") first-person advantage to 70% first-person advantage.

2. The effects of loser-goes-first.  For fun, try changing the first person advantage to something really low, like 0.2, and then look at your graph.  It becomes horribly skewed, as the winner has the advantaged position each time!

Off-topic but possibly important for theory:  I can't see the attachment in Chrome.  I was able to download it in Firefox, however.

I just want to know why it takes them so long to make easy changes like the Done button to something like Buy Phase. That should be an easy 1 minute fix. I don't get what takes them so long, honestly.
I always figure it's because they are working on Settlers or whatever instead.

I can say with a reasonable amount of certainty that Larry Roznai (President of Mayfair) is less impressed with Goko's timetable and abilities than I am.  So it might well be there's a big push for Settlers, as it's now been almost a year and a half since they signed a deal...

It must be very frustrating being a president of a game company and having your product developed by Goko. I can only begin to imagine his frustration. Also, Settlers is a hugely popular game that is now even sold at Target, so I can imagine feeling like it is important to have an online implementation out ASAP.

Actually, Settlers itself has been digitally implemented multiple times, including some backed by Mayfair.  Goko is developing Catan World (or something like that), something more multiplayer and microplay/social play.  Basically, Farmville for Catan, except with the intent to be better than Farmville, and the almost certainty that Goko will find a way to make it worse.

So far I have moderated the forum with a "Don't be a jerk." policy in accordance with our registration agreement.  But I agree that a full-fledged set of rules would be nice.

Wheaton's Law:  Don't be a dick.

Which is to say, we reserve the right to be arbitrary, capricious, and unfair.  But we are mostly benevolent.

So, you aspire to be like Havelock Vetinari?

Editing:  Not that I'd try to suggest that's a bad thing to aspire to.

Tables: Seed 99, skill 44.044±14.209
vs
bitwise: Seed 157, skill 44.174±22.58

There really is a LOT to be said for using the basic mu score rather than the mu-sigma rating from Trueskill for seeding tournaments.

Sneak Peak from Guilds:

Bulbasaur
$3 - Action-Attack
+1 Card
Each other player discards down to 3 cards in hand.

Ivysaur
$2* - Action-Attack
+2 Cards
Each other player discards down to 3 cards in hand.
--
You may only buy this card if you have a Bulbasaur in play. When you buy this, trash a Bulbasaur you have in play.

Venusaur
$3* - Action-Attack-Reaction
+3 Cards
Each other player discards down to 3 cards in hand.
--
When another player plays an Attack card, you may set this aside from your hand. If you do, then at the start of your next turn, return this to your hand.
--
You may only buy this card if you have a Ivysaur in play. When you buy this, trash a Ivysaur you have in play.

I think I actually quite like this card!

Buffy kills Edward.
Snape and Gandalf are half-brothers.
Wesley Crusher was a Cylon.
DougZ is Batman.
Jesus dies.
Yes, the hero gets the MacGuffin and the girl at the end, and the bad guy gets killed.  This applies to every action movie ever.
Fifty Shades is unadulterated sh*tty porn, and its creator is a blight on the English language and humanity in general.

The top isn't Cobb's totem - it's Mal's.  Cobb's totem is his wedding ring.  So whether or not the top fell over is irrelevant.

Not completely true. Real world physics dictate the top falls. If it does not, we know he is dreaming still. If it does fall, well, we know nothing. Since we don't know if the top fell, we know nothing.

I missed this episode of Firefly apparently.

Whoever asks should mention it might get a lot of people to start playing on goko.

Would it? I can't see it making a difference I don't think Dark Ages not on Iso is a reason people aren't playing on Goko I suspect it's that people don't like the UI implementation as much.

It's a web app!  It is supposed to run every where right?

I just don't understand why they are thinking about Facebook integration when I couldn't even play 5 games without one player being disconnected.

It doesn't. Also the point of an app is to have offline play theoretically and be more light on your data plan as you have the images stored ahead of time

I know it doesn't!  It was snark!  Didn't DXV say this is why Jay selected them... because of the power of HTML5 and its ability to run everywhere!

Goko:  Games that go a few places, when they don't crash.

I mentioned the DA exclusion on the form but not on the blog post.  I have updated the blog post accordingly.

Perhaps we could ask for a temporary release for the tournament (sponsored by goko)?

Ha!  That's amusing.

Even a best-of-nine Dominion game is going to take less time than a serious chess match (or a 'serious' competitive match of lots of different games and sports.) and is basically guaranteed to come down to player skill.

This is only true online, of course.  In person, depending on the board, a single game takes at least five minutes to set up (most of which is spent finding the kingdom cards) and ten minutes to play (for two players).  That's a minimum--with crazier cards that force lots of shuffling (Hunting Party, I'm looking at you), or with lots of attacks, that time can go up to as much as half an hour.  A best-of-nine set of 2P Dominion at a table could take as long as 4 hours or so, as long as many of the longest regulation chess matches, and much longer than most sport matches (cricket excepted, but then cricket's wacky in so many ways).

What *I* want is a bias mechanism to tell the randomizer to select cards from a specific expansion, or to include a specific card and randomize everything else.

Are you nuts? Do you know how much time and how many people it would take to program that?

Oh, wait...
