King's Cache and Capital.  You get 18 coins & 3 buys but only have to pay back 6.  It's like a triple cash back credit card.

27
Pickaxe and Canal have a nasty interaction as now you will have to trash base 4 cost cards in order to gain loots.

28
Guardian blocks the trashing of a Curse than an Old Witch would normally trash from your hand

1. Obviously depends on the other cards. If there are $5 trashers you probably want those first. If there's a spammable $4 you probably want this early. With Swamp Shacks you want a lot of Quartermasters.
2. At some point you're going to switch to estates when you run out of actions that you want. I'm not very good at gauging when to do this.
3. Wall. Don't get Quartermasters when there's Wall. I did this once and was very sad.

I mean it's not that bad for wall as instead of gaining a card you could just keep Taking a card (assuming there arent any there)

They are really good in games where you get points for acquiring cards that you don't really want in your deck like Museum when there are a lot of stop actions, or Plateau Shepherds.

Generally speaking if you are going to get one, you probably want to get it early

Reckless Trait cards stack with "play twice" and "play three times" effects. I used King's Cache on a Reckless Bank to play it six times for $66, and had enough buys to buy all 8 Provinces.

Just imagine a reckless possession/kings court(s) combo.  You might be able to sneak a nap in before your next turn if they don't end it first.

31
Reckless and Island.  You get to island two cards and it hits your mat and doesn't ever get returned.  Super fast thinking early.

32
Taskmaster and Souk is just nasty.  As long as you keep getting souks you just stack the taskmaster, thus allowing you to play all the souks you have amassed since you have likely thinned all the coppers and estates out of your deck by then anyway.

Was going to Zombie Apprentice to hopefully draw the needed +buy loot but wasn't wearing my glasses. Instead Misclicked a Zombie Mason to take the penultimate province by hitting a 7-cost loot allowing me to buy the last one and end the game.

Counterpoint: Potion in the base set makes it not the Base set anymore. The base set shouldn’t have extra mechanics like that.

Counter hot-take: Potion should cost $3 and also give +Buy, so (A) it’s less punishing to go for a Potion card in the opening and (B) Potion can still be useful in situations where you don’t want the Alchemy card but there are no buys otherwise.

I like the 3 cost + buy thing a lot.

Miller.  Why does this only have one option?  The theory of the Townsfolk pile is to grab elders so that you can multiply cards that have multiple options.  I don't see why this wouldn't be like "choose one: +1 action +4 cards take or  +1 action or +4 cards take 1 treasure" so that you could get an elder benefit and gain an extra action & card.

I appreciate the thought for uniformity of idea, but that phrasing makes much less sense than the Miller we already have. This alternate version would essentially be creating an entirely new wording for a mechanic that hasn’t really changed since its first publishing.

The real problem with the Townsfolk pile is that Elder is basically a Silver that is occasionally also Throne Room for about 30 cards. The concept is amazing, I just wish it cost less for what it does. It’s a lot of work to get to for not a whole lot of payoff IMHO.

Oh I just came up with the wording off the cuff.  Really any 2nd option on Miller would be nice  just to make miller &elder a lil more powerful as I agree they are just a little weaker than they should be.

Gladiator.  I actually love the card, but the "pretend to think" option is stupid AF. 1st off it's not really that funny. And why "pretend"?  I mean reading is thinking.  And it slows the game down sooooo much.  Now I can see have an optional reveal, but you know I don't have it?  Why slow the game down so often.

Supplies.
 From another FDS thread http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=20583.msg858250#msg858250

Why don't we have a play all supplies button.  The number of times you would ever not want to play all supplies is so small as it is. Especially when people stack these all the time, it really slows the game to play them individually. And if there's undo's or changeling it's almost unbearable.  Literally the biggest no-brainer in the history of the Earth.  At a bare minimum could we get an under-the-card autoplay option to always play all supplies that we could turn off in the rare game where its not wanted (maybe wall end game or your opponent has a monkey in play etc-- but these are a rare exception to the 99.9% of the time where we all want to play every Supplies we are lucky enough t draw.

Oh and it's undervalued too.  Like it's better than silver. Probably should cost 3 too.  In fact I would love a feature that when supplies is in supply silver would cost 2 and supplies 3.... And you'd still buy supplies, which just shows how criminally underpriced this card actually is.

I have mentioned this to 1000's of players since supplies was incepted.  All but one were like "fuck yeah that's awesome". and one person ever was merely ambivalent either way.

Distant Shores.  Why does the 6 cost elite card in a pile spam me with estates? It should have been made as a +1 vp and exile an estate.

The Allies expansion doesn’t have an Exile mat. Just don’t buy Distant Shore so early.

I usually avoid it altogether, though sometimes very late it is ok.

I guess if the exile mat is a problem then just make it +1 vp token.  the elite card in any pile shouldn't spam with junk.

You have to remember which expansion this is part of... it doesn't just gain Silver and Potion... it gains Cage, Jewelled Egg, Abundance, Crucible, Gondola, and Rope.

And Tools!
supplies, ducat and stockpile are pretty nice too.  But in a purely silver game it's really bad.

43
Delivery will allow you to gain a Siren without trashing a card as the delivery can be resolved before the trashing.

44
Silver Mine and Ducat have really nice synergy.  Swapping a ducat for copper is great, but you often lack the buy to grab them.  So at the beginning it helps you trash your deck, or use Silver Mine to gain silvers to build coin economy.  In the end game adding a coffer/buy out of thin air can be a really nice thing too.

I already made a thread a while back on why both Black Market and Tourney are fundamentally unfair, but this seems a good place to reiterate

http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=20854.msg873395#msg873395

Anyone who has played with me has probably heard me throw in my philosophical opinions of certain aspects of dominions that I don't Like.  My most frequent is that I kind of hate Black Market and tournament because I find them fundamentally unfair.  The swings are so great with the prizes in Tournament that games are often almost over based on who gets the prize that is most useful in that particular kingdom (ie it lacks, actions, curses, buys, etc).  Same with Black market.  I once got a Fortune on t5.  That game was already over. Or a wall game where one person gets chapel and the other doesn't.  That game is essentially already over.  Because the uniqueness of the cards creates a wild imbalance.  IRL I rectified this by playing "Honkeyfresh's Black AF market" where I set up BM the same, but make TWO decks. One for each.  Then it truly is an easter egg game, where you start seeing cards appear in the other player's deck and get excited knowing what possibilities are out there.  I've also done this with tourney, but the prizes were just defaced coppersmiths that I turned into "Honkeyfresh's  Tourney for Two".  It is SOOOO much more fun and allows you to build the prizes to make a sweet engine, not by saying what do I have to get so that the other player doesn't first.  It would b really neat if somehow this tweak was added to the non-rated games section to where you could play with two BM decks/prize piles, as it makes for a really fun, and eminently fairer game.

47
Eh, no. An Inspiring card likes Black Market on the board, but Inspiring on Black Market is obviously not that great. I think the winner is a Smithy variant, that gets the potiential to become a superlab. (it is nice on Knight though, as it prevents Knight collisions)

I recently played with Inspiring Torturer.  Just a brutal combo with any +actions around.  I think this may get the nod over Cultist as the ruins are so much better than the curses/discards that torturer brings to bear especially since it is easy to chain both of them with Inspiring.

48
Shaman is really annoying.  That said Enlarge is a nice complement to it.  Trash a good card with enlarge before you gain your card, and then you avoid having to grab from the conveyor belt of garbage that is the Shaman train and get a nice +2 card to boot. Plus then your opponent has to take the crap you were avoiding.

Cabin Boy does well with this too. basically a free duration rather than getting the junk.

49
Spell Scroll + Treasurer -- instantly empties the Treasurer pile and gives you $30.

Spell Scroll trashes itself to gain & play a Treasurer, which can pull the Spell Scroll back out of the trash into your hand (and net $3 each time). Repeat until the Treasurer pile is empty.

Lurker is a more fun version - gain 10 Lurkers. Spend the rest of the game, Lurking back the scroll after every play (as only you have Lurkers). You can also mass regain Lurkers if you have any TfB to feed them into (e.g. Forge a province, play Scroll, and then gain back 4 lurkers and the Scroll). If you have the draw/actions to support it, You can also gain 10 cards per shuffle via Lurking.

Something like Apprentice/Jeweled Egg to thin/gain Scroll. (Scroll -> gain Lurk -> gain scroll) x 10. Then Scroll -> Gain Apprenctice -> Lurk Scroll -> Apprentice on themselves for 5 cards, and punch through.

This is awesome....  8)

I wonder how strong a Terminal Gold actually is.
Well, strictly worse than Treasurer, so it couldn't be priced at $5 or higher. Could well be in the sour spot where it's too strong at $4 and too weak at $5.

same with Charlatan and Legionary.
I think 4$ would be a fine valuation. Maybe call it the axeman in honor of the deprecated Woodcutter
