This is primarily a great BM card, not so great in engines for the most part. This is an amazing Duchy/Duke card, maybe even better than Cache. A nice Gold gainer for sure. If you have a way to get rid of the copper, this could even be a good Gold gainer for an engine that likes trashing Golds for Provinces, like Butcher or Remodel. This could also actually be a fun engine card if your source of payload is Forager trashing.

This card is like a combination of Cache and Hoard in a sense. I don't think you'd want more than two at the very most, and this card is probably terrible in Colony games, like Cache and Hoard.

Also, obvious combo with Storyteller.

Transmogrify is very good in some aspects, but very bad in others.

Pros: You can trash from your hand and directly gain into your hand.
Cons: Only at the start of your turn. Oh, and you have to play this a turn in advance to make it worth it.

Transmogrify gets better with Wharf (most cards do). Transmogrify is awesome with Dark Ages cards.

Overall, I don't think it's a great card. It's good to have one or two of these cards handy in an engine, but nothing you should buy en mass. It's a hard card to evaluate, because it really depends on the kingdom, more so than some other cards.

Still not convinced that the engine is better. But something else: Some of you have argued for Princing Nomad Camp. That seems really like the worst possible choice here (well, excluding FV). What you want out of a Princed card is reliability, and that extra buy does nothing for you if you have a dud. Both Herald and Ironmonger set you up to kick off your engine and are thus much preferable IMO. You can always play the Nomad Camp when you've drawn your deck.

You may very well be correct in the Princing regard, though I'm not so sure. You obviously Prince whatever you have on hand ASAP, and all three choices are completely fine. However, I don't think BM wins here at all. I think you underestimate the engine, overestimate the BM, or possibly both.

When in doubt, go for engine.

I'd run some simulator, but I have a beta Mac, so I can't get Geronimoo's Sim City Simulator.

There's probably fun things to be done with Summon, but I dunno, the little thing I set up doesn't seem to be all that exciting. Maybe I should think of a different idea.

I like the puzzle, as long as it's stated clearly. The problem with it - like many other similar puzzles - is that the answer simply is to 'gain the supply', and then someone can just link one of those threads and that's usually that, maybe with some minor adjustments here and there.

Also your solution has two problems: You spent 1 buy too many in turn 1, and you only drew 5 instead of 7 coppers before reshuffling the deck.

Fixed. In my haste to calculate Poor House and money count all in my head, I forgot about the topdecking effect. I even remembered it in the beginning. Ugh. As for the +buy, the +2 buys threw me off with Traveling Fair.

What happens if I gain a Bank?

Well, when you play Bank, the value is 0, plus any treasures in play. So it is worth 0 when gained.

There's probably fun things to be done with Summon, but I dunno, the little thing I set up doesn't seem to be all that exciting. Maybe I should think of a different idea.

Gain as much value in coin as possible in 3 turns. Coin value is earned by playing Action cards with +coin, and by buying treasure. Gaining action cards with +coin without playing them does not gain value in coin.

Setup: Shelters
Action cards: Baker, Poor House, Stonemason, Masterpiece
Events: Borrow, Traveling Fair

T1: 5x copper
$5 to spend.

Buy Traveling Fair, Buy Stonemason, overpay for 2 Poor Houses. Buy 1 copper (+1).

Topdeck Poor Houses.

T2: Shelters, x2 Poor House
Play Necropolis, play x2 Poor House (+8).
Use coin token, $9 to spend.

Highest amount of coin count in 3 turns, excluding the current coppers in your starting hands? Adventures allowed. Go crazy. I bet someone will get higher than I did. I currently have $18. As per rules, only 2 events per game.

Using 2 turns here for hardmode


Events used: Travelling Fair, Alms

With Shelters,

Kingdom has Baker, Stonemason, Poor House, Death Cart

Open 5C, spent Baker Token, buy Travelling Fair, Stonemason overpaying by 1, also 1 Poor House, top deck 2 Poor Houses

Turn 2: Draw Poor House, Poor House, 3 shelters. Buy 2x Travelling Fair, Stonemason overpaying by one, gain 2 Poor Houses, buy Poor House, Alms for Death Cart, gain 2 Ruined Mines.

6 Poor Houses is 24, 1 Death Cart is 4 and the 2 Ruined Mines make for a total of 30 extra coin added to the deck. Actually, let's make that 32, because 2 of the coppers never got into my starting hands.


I intended it so that you'd have to play the card to gain the coin amount with actions. I don't know, I mean, I can't think of a reason to exclude action cards with money gaining. If it only counts if you play the action card, it should only count if you can play the money card. Ugh.

what scares me the most is swindler on strong engine boards, because you just can't trust that engine to stay in one piece for the whole game and i don't know how to plan around that other than "get even more stuff before greening than normal"

You can hit his crap too. Greening with Provinces is better early than late I would think (though not great), since a rogue Swindler might hit Province and make it harder for your opponent to come back.

Tunnel is 100% skippable here. Seriously. I don't like Embassy/Tunnel here at all. Engine is just way too fast. I'd open Nomad Camp/Fishing Village and aim to win the FV split. Princing Nomad Camp is probably the best thing to hit, though Ironmonger or Herald isn't bad either. I would get Hunting Grounds draw, and that would be huge, especially on a lucky Herald hit. I don't care that there's no trashing, really. Engine would flat out beat Tunnel/Embassy for sure.

I think you are underestimating embassy here

Double Province every turn > 1 Province a turn

Embassy will buy the first Province, but Engine can easily catch up and buy Duchies too. Engine can squeak out a win.
