Pillage is often not all that great.

I disagree. If you can play a Pillage a turn, your opponent is going to straight out get wrecked. Losing a single card a turn that you get to pick is just so devastating.

Pastoral Lands
cost 4 - Treasure - Victory
Take a Pastoral token. You can't buy cards in this turn.
Worth 1 vp for a Pastoral token you have.
That was a Monument which you can get some vps without using an Action. Terrible!

No, this card is crazy good.

I don't care about buying cards when I can just gain them. I can easily gain Pastoral Lands, and every time I play it, the VP count for each individual Pastoral Lands goes way up. Even if I can't gain Pastoral Lands, I don't care at all. This card is way better than Province. Just keep playing this card, again and again, and the game will never end. There won't be an incentive to end the game at all. Just win the Pastoral Lands split and then keep playing them, forever and forever.

This card is bad because there's no easy way to end the game, not to mention it's way too cheap for how good it is.

Dark Ages is still easily my favorite set, but Adventures is a lot of fun, and it will take a long time to redefine 'optimal' plays for Adventures cards and events in tandem with the older cards. Borrow is a game changer in itself, events are a game changer, Haunted Woods is a great draw card and attack, etc. Apparently, Treasure Trove is just a complete game changer, so Big Money even gets a nice competitive boost.

I got super duper lucky to set this up.  In no way was it the best strategy.

Well, it didn't really matter because your opponent also ignored the best strategy.

Out of curiosity, what would that be? KC KC Scavenger Scavenger is a free province a turn.

And when I finally won, it was of course, luck, which he promptly pointed out to me with lots and lots of insults.

It will be great to have a blacklist again, which I assume will be a feature in the 2017 implementation.

Why? People raging on the internet is hilarious and petty. Plus you get to show off a funny story and get some free upvotes. What's not to like?

Still a better Lex Luthor than Jesse Eisenberg.

-How does this card compare to Baron? Is it better?
-How harmful is the penalty of not using $2 to get the card back?
-Is this card better in Big Money, or an Engine?
-How many Wine Merchants do you want in both cases?
-How does this card rank among other $5 costs?

I had an intricate engine consisting of festival, artificer, library, and distant lands that enabled me to gain and play multiple distant lands within the same turn. A relatively new player crushed me with Treasure Trove, it is a very powerful card.

No trashing? Either way, Treasure Trove I guess is really legit. I'll have to look out for it when Adventures comes out on MF.

Soldier payload with Urchin (or Minion, or any other cantrip attack) can be brutal. Thin down with Mercenary, play a million Urchins, then Soldier up with tons of coin. This is even stronger with Disciple being able to gain more Urchins, and Teacher with a +buy token being granted to the Urchins for even more buying power, assuming there is no +buy. If not, then obviously you can just put a coin on Urchins, or even card, whatever you'd need.

Takes a bit of time to set up, but it's worth pointing out.

There could be a card that spends Victory Point chips or Coin Tokens for draw.

What if there was a card that you had to pay to use by using up Action cards?

Burn thing
$5 - Action

+2 Cards
You may trash any Action cards in hand. For every action card trashed, +$2.

When you gain this, gain an Action card costing up to $3.

Probably not a great card.

I tried writing an article on Farming Village once, to try and glean some great unique use out of it. I had a Farming Village just last week skip 5 VP cards and a Curse to hit Gold, netting me a Province to an eventual win, which was fun. But that doesn't usually hit.

...impossibru?

Okay, whatever. I'll say my solution because it may not be possible after all.

You have only $5 to spend with one buy, and you have to go ahead and buy a Province, right?

Here's what you have in hand: Silver, Silver, Quarry, Watchtower.

Play treasures, buy Traveling Fair, $3 left to spend. Quarry cheapens action cards, buy Cultist, trash with Watch tower, draw 3 Platinums, buy Province.

It's probably not possible because I don't know if you can play treasures once you actually buy something. I don't think I even need a Donald conformation, it doesn't work in MF or Goko now that I think about it. So yeah, not a real solution.

I'm not good at this puzzle thing at all.

2. Cost reducers - I can't think of a way to get two besides Traveling Fair, which Awa already said.

There is a cost reducer, but there is no Highways or Bridges or any of that.

No Highway and no Bridge? So of what's left, Ferry and Quarry only affect Actions, so... Princess? But that's only used once. I no gets it. And you said buy the Provinces so that means you can't do stuff like Farmland tricks or whatev.

Yes, no Farmland, because you have to buy the Provinces. And no Princess in play.

Some simple easy puzzles:

You have a 1 card hand. How do you get to a 2 Province buy?

18$ Pirate Ship and Travelling Fair is on the board.

There's probably like 80 more solutions, but that solution was not what I had in mind. But yes, it is correct.

So basically, Moneylender/Spice Merchant and Treasure Trove is going to be a legit hard strategy to beat?

The moneylender and spice merchant are too fancy. Just get big drawing cards and play BIG money.

So don't throw little darts, throw bombs.

Based on that avatar, I think DG has that idea covered.

Why I said it.

You are in your buy phase. You have $5 to spend and 1 buy. How do you get to buying a Province? How about 2 Provinces?

You have 8 Highways in play and then you buy a Traveling Fair.
Nice solution, now try no highways.

It is your opponent's turn. He has 1 more VP than you, and there is one Province left. He buys it... And loses. How?

Treasure Trove is one of the best cards of the set, and probably the best Big Money card since Embassy. If it weren't for Gear, I would say it's the best Big Money card ever. The presence of Treasure Trove alone is enough to make you really reconsider weak engines.

It took me many games to see the value of this card, where I would build a complex, thin engine over a long period of time but my partner would just buy a few Wharves and Treasure Troves and wipe the floor with me.

It's really nothing like Cache or Hoard honestly. Cache is a Gold that gives you two Coppers when you buy it, this is a Silver that gives you a Gold and a Copper on play, which is far far far far better. Hoard only gives you a Gold when you buy a Victory card, so it's the same "gold plus dud" thing except it doesn't happen every time like Treasure Trove and even Copper isn't a dud in BM. The Copper is a feature, not a bug - A Gold and a Copper is better than two Silvers for producing $8 hands consistently, and Copper helps smooth out Victory card disruption.

You actually want as many of these as you can get your hands on in BM I think (skipping it mainly to get more terminal draw or Duchy) as there's really no such thing as too much free gold in those cases. Even the slightest bit of Copper trashing (Moneylender, Spice Merchant, Forager, even Upgrade) does wonders for this card.

There's a bit of a prejudice against Treasure in high level Dominion play, and while it is somewhat warranted, you need to be prepared for the resurgence of money strategies when Adventures comes online or you're going to get crushed.

WOW. This is very high praise coming from you. This praise of a Money card is so radical to me, that I'm going to take you at your word.

So basically, Moneylender/Spice Merchant and Treasure Trove is going to be a legit hard strategy to beat?

The best way to learn is to get #rekt by some really good player on here while on Skype or something like that. Nothing like experience, and the good player can tell you what you did wrong and what to look for and all that.

Don't get too competitive though. You'll never really learn if you don't have fun.

Ironmonger, Herald and princed shenanigans are lovely engine playground, but I don't think there is time for these guys. Example given, we get two Embassys and two HG for draw, and a nomad camp for + buy, we will need at least four fishing villages to support these. And if our opponent gives us two silver, we are already at $17. Time to green; also, whenever I have a bad move (quite likely with that many stop cards), i prefer to increase draw or get a reliable village instead of speculative stuff like ironmonger or herald.

You might be very well be right. There probably isn't much time for Prince on this board. Ironmonger and Herald could probably be skipped as well. But I still think engine should be completely superior to Embassy BM.
