Contrary to popular belief, you don't always make your own shuffle luck.
You bought a noble brigand on turn one with 5 coins? I think you made your own (and his) shuffle luck.
Uh.......no? We both got 5/2 - I opened Chapel/Market (which is usually a win for me) and he/she opened Chapel/Lab.

Lucky 5/2 split. Opened Witch/Chapel. Ended up being able to KC-Witch twice in a row. I AM A HIGH PRIESTESS.

(Also, hot damn Quarry was a useful card on that board.)

Epic moment of yesterday: Beating Rabid.

It was one of my "unrated themed base challenges" games so I don't really have anything to show for it in my rating, but I was freaking out at the time.

I know there are some musicians on here, so post your stuff~! Or just talk about music. That's cool too.

Here's my SoundCloud. It's mostly limited to pop/electronic stuff that I make on Reason but I do do classical as well.

Clara. Way to call the Doctor out on his BS. And way to do it like an actual spontaneous rant and not some rehearsed script that's only semi-convincing. You go girl.

The eggmoon is a whole 'nother story...

Oh wow, that sounds like my luck. Yesterday I was at 3.5k, then I got complacent and wanted to get higher and I dropped down to 3.2k before I won anything. I managed to get almost back to 3.5k (I think I reached 3494) and decided to quit while I was ahead.

The thing is, I think my rating should probably be lower because I have a default kingdom that I always play with - base set only, no attacks, two different trashers, and like four different ways of building an engine. Not that I'm an authority on this or anything, but if you want a placebo-ish way of boosting your casual rating, put together a deck that you can play really well and use that for a while. Unfortunately, I can't say the same about pro.

Other Games / Re: Sopio? Anyone heard of it?
« on: October 03, 2014, 10:20:21 am »
Well, first of all, I probably shouldn't admit this on the forum, but I'm not that much of a gamer. The only reason I play Dominion is because I used to go to game nights at a local store and it's the one I enjoyed the most even though I'm kinda bad at it (which is what this forum will hopefully fix). So I don't have much of a game collection at all.

BUT, that's part of what I like about Sopio. It kind of fits both worlds because it's got elements for both gamers and non-gamers to enjoy. The lower decks are simple enough that people can easily play them who are only used to stuff like Uno or Gin Rummy, and then they can gradually move up to higher decks. Experienced gamers can dive right into the high decks/expansions and even try to create their own decks focusing on different aspects - effects-only, speed game, instant cards, and rule alterers are just a few "themes" that I can come up with right now. Not to mention that people can create their own cards. So yeah, I like it because it's as simple or as complicated as you want to make it.

Also I like that there's so much humor involved. There are a lot of funny cards and when you get up to decks 5/6/7 basically every card has a visual pun on it. It gives you something to laugh at when you're playing/formulating/etc.

Here's a video that better explains how to play and stuff.

What do you mean by Take That elements? Just curious.

Other Games / Sopio? Anyone heard of it?
« on: October 03, 2014, 02:41:31 am »
This thing.

It's sort of a cross between Uno and Fluxx. Turns are draw-play style, every player from the same central deck. There are cards that give positive and negative points (in increments of 50) and effect cards that do other things - playing extra cards, changing people's scores, screwing with other players' hands, etc. Every player has their own points pile to keep score and the goal is to get to a thousand points.

Basically it's a really fun game and it's more complex than it appears... if you're not playing with deck 1 that is. I'd really recommend trying it out.

Why is 6 afraid of 7?

Because 7 has C̷͏̜̘̳͖̻O̳̗̼̠̖̤̙͢ͅL̷̠͖̮̼̜͈̙ͅḐ̮͍̦̮̖͕ͅ ҉̷͓̦̦͖̣̪͘D̛̛̛̪̫̣̼̥ͅE̶͎͕͎̲̞̥̘̠͘A͏̴͉̱̟̻͖͙̙ͅD͚͈̺͎ ̸̬̟͇͇̺̣͡Ȩ̷̦͕̞̲̮̩͘Y҉͚͚̫̥͉̟́͞E͜͏̝S̥̖̠̲͜

Does anybody have any theories about what's up with the whole Heaven thing? I normally have some idea of what's going on but I have no clue what Moffat is trying to do there. And the fact that the show (or at least the reboot) hasn't ever done anything with post-death consciousness before is making me reeeeeeeeeeeeally suspicious.

Goko Dominion Online / "Watching"?
« on: October 03, 2014, 01:19:51 am »
On the popup on games it always has a "watching" list but there's never a button to click in order to watch games. Is there something I'm missing?

It's not even practice, it's more just experimenting and a fun on-the-side (unrated) challenge for people who want a break from the standard "playing with a randomized kingdom to go up in rating".

Game Reports / Re: Dear My Opponent: I am Sorry
« on: October 02, 2014, 09:10:21 pm »
I had a feeling I was about to lose one game today, but then my opponent (who had a really good deck) had one turn where they hardly did anything. I wondered what happened so I checked the log...

Quote
(opponent)   draws Chapel, Copper, Cellar
(opponent)   shuffles deck
(opponent)   draws Silver, Throne Room
[my turn happened here]
Quote
(opponent)   plays Cellar
(opponent)   discards Silver
(opponent)   discards Copper
(opponent)   discards Chapel
(opponent)   draws Throne Room, Throne Room, Province
(opponent)   plays Throne Room
(opponent)   plays Throne Room
(opponent)   plays Throne Room
(opponent)   plays Throne Room
(opponent)   plays Throne Room

Damn, son. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry.

Puzzles and Challenges / Help me come up with the best "Pin Race" kingdom
« on: October 02, 2014, 09:03:47 pm »
Backstory: I've been itching to try out the KC-KC-Goons-Masquerade pin. Problem is, I don't have much experience with any sets except base, and if I join a game where I'm not quite used to the technique yet I'm going to get slaughtered. Repeatedly. So as soon as I save up enough to buy the all sets pack on Goko, I'm planning on putting together a board and hosting unrated games to try to get used to it.

Challenge: Come up with a kingdom that would be ideal for racing to get the pin cards. (Also say why you chose those particular cards but that should be a given.)

The most PPR-related tension I have ever been involved in. After my opponent saw through my standard "I'm not trashing my estates so I can win on a 4/4 province split" tactic, the game started heating up. We drained the duchies so fast that I couldn't keep count of VPs and I was holding my breath throughout my entire last turn.

Someone make this thread about general bad draws and not about me please.

The problem is that anyone who wanted to post about general bad draws already could have, in a new thread: there's nothing "exciting" about a thread you've created that invites bad-beat posts. But the games you posted do have some interesting strategic elements, and as this is a forum about dominion strategy, folks are trying to help you improve your play by talking about the games. If you really want this thread to be "only" about bad draws, it will probably just die out without a single post; I don't see much point in asking for that to be the thread's topic (even though that's what the title said). If, instead, you want to change the subject because you're feeling ganged-up-on by numerous posts that seem to be saying you played badly, that's another matter. If that's the problem, say so, and others will either adjust their tone or stop replying, because they really are just trying to be helpful to you.
Okay, fair enough. The reason why I'm a bit squirrely about the strategy replies is because I already made a thread asking for help about effective chapeling, so I didn't want this to become a duplicate. But anyway, thanks for the help (and not completely destroying my life on the forum). Lock the thread if you want, theory, or if anyone else actually does have some game-changing bad luck hands - you know, like, picking up 4 smithies and one treasure in a vill/smith deck - feel free to post them. Please don't ban me?

Today I was trying to refresh the forum and I accidentally refreshed Goko.

Twice.

Chapel strategies never work for me on a 4/3 opening split with that board - they way too often pop up with money I need for a buy
On chapel turns you won't be able to buy anything.
If I have enough money for an essential card and trashing a copper would prevent me from getting it, I can't exactly trash the copper then, can I?

Someone make this thread about general bad draws and not about me please.

Chapel strategies never work for me on a 4/3 opening split with that board - they way too often pop up with cards that I don't want to trash, money I need for a buy, or terminals that make them unusable.

Anyway, I created this thread so that other people could post their unlucky draws as well as me.
