And about Lab being better late game:
Late game Lab is better than Witch too, but it would be foolish to say that makes Lab better than Witch. The early game is the most important part of the game.

I'm saying that the added cycling of stables in the beginning of the game doesn't make up for that fact you are going to get some stall turns later on.  Where lab is consistent through the game.  With light trashing is going to accelerate you towards your engine faster then spinning your wheels with stables.

Yeah witch is bad late but the power of witch in the beginning of the game isn't even comparable to stables early "power"

77
Drawing most of your deck is much better with labs.  With stables you are going to run into times where you cant cause a reshuffle because you have 100 coppers in your discard.

I just think they are a lot closer just like the rankings suggest.  They might both be a little overrated but there is no way they should be more then 5 ranks different.

78

Lab is consistent, sure. But it's consistently average (like I think it's barely in the top half of $5 cards). It really shines in a well-trashed deck, but there are so many ways to draw your deck if it's well-trashed. Village+Smithy, for one, does the exact same thing as Lab+Lab but at a much cheaper price point. And if your deck isn't trashed well enough to make Village+Smithy work, it's probably not trashed well enough to make Lab particularly useful either. Stables works well in situations where there are fewer good alternatives, which makes it more valuable.

So are you saying that stables is just as far down as Lab?  Because even if one is better then the other it really is only slightly.

And trashing just dominates most boards.  Why would you want to rely on such a bad card as copper to keep your engine going?

79
I've changed my mind and think lab is better then stables but only slightly.

Stables just gets worse and worse as the game progresses.  It also gets worse when there is trashing on the board which we all know is powerful in most games.

Lab is just more consistent always.

I feel like the more and more I play with stables I am discarding a silver just to get a hand that I needed that silver in.  Yes stables has better early cycling but its end game riskiness make laboratory just a better card on more boards.

80
Yes my statement could be made about any card, this is true.  But it points out how rare a situation there is where not opening hag when your opponent does is the right play.

Making the same mistake as your opponent is not always the same across the board.  It hurts much less to make a wrong sea hag opening then lets say a wrong silver opening because there are many more choices with the latter later on in the game.  Sea hag has one purpose.

81
There has been very few times where I've regretted opening hag when my opponents does.  No matter what is on the board.

82
My Predictions:

1. Rebuild
2. Cultist
3. Mountebank
4. Wharf
5. Junk Dealer

I really want Witch to be #6 and Junk Dealer to be #5

There are so many games where Junk Dealer makes an engine kick off immediately.  Personally my favorite card in the game.

83
Apprentice is fine where it is.  It really needs some sort of gainer to be affective.  Yeah it can really speed up the end game if you already have a good engine but I feel that most of the time Apprenticing coppers and even estates is so weak.

That is disappointing yed...

Not that I have had a great back and forth discussion about any of my matches so far.  It still was a little disheartening for that to be your only response on the games I played against you.  Anyways here are my thoughts on the games!

Game 1.  This game was I think one of my favorites.  You open double lighthouse which I really don't understand.  Yeah margrave is there but there isn't a village and so I don't really like that opening.  I go hard for hunting parties and grab a altar much earlier then you.  Then you focus on peddlers which again I don't understand because there was only 1 +buy and getting one platinum in your deck is much more important then 5 peddlers in a HP game.  Anyways I think my favorite part about this game is that I top deck a LH every turn and have one out so I don get hit by a margrave the entire game which is why I won this one.

Game 2.  You have 5-2 opening on a cutlist board which stresses me out and I open double lookout instead of double lighthouse.  I have 2 lighthouses and 3 lookouts by turn 12 but have 5 ruins still in my deck and you blow me apart the rest of the game.

Game 3.  This was the most interesting game of the match.  Rebuild is there but we both decide to build a menagerie engine.  You open double steward and I fall behind.  I decide to do some weird tricks with ironworks and grab estates.  But that probably wasn't smart.  I get a rebuild too late and you are able to end it pretty easily.

Game 4.  This was a risky engine board with the only draw in steward.  But if you thin enough I still think that's still good.  And so do you because we pretty much mirror buying 1 mandarin each for support.  I obv get really fortunate that all of your border villages are on the bottom of your deck one shuffle and am able to end it before I stall.

Game 5.  This game was very luck dependent.  Mountebank hits hard before any light trashing can be done with moneylender.  I king a Mountebank turn 11 even though you had a king before me.  Try lining up a Kings Court with anything when the only village is a Kinged Treasury.  This slog lasts 32 turns and I think I'm about to lose when one of my kings line up with a monument.  Got lucky on this one.

Game 6.  I double province on turn 14 which is my only good hand of the entire game.  I completely over value Watchtower here thinking I wouldn't draw an extra card because I would trash the curse.  But of course you gain the curse first and then trash it so you still draw a card, effectively making watchtower a ruined library.  I didn't have a good strategy going into this one.  Got outplayed here.

Thank you for the games yed!  I'm not expecting you to reply to this but it really does help my game when someone of your caliber comments.  Hopefully the games were at least a little fun for you because they were a blast for me.  Good luck in the last round!

1-3-1

Game 1 I got lucky and the deck fired on the last turn so I could buy two provinces and end it.
Game 2 He hit 6 six really early, got the horde, and the game as a result. (I think it was turn 3)
Game 3 I could have won, and avoided the draw, but I mis-used my Pawn.
Game 4 was all over the place. A Fun set-up, but neither of us had a really solid plan of what we were doing.
Game 5 - with my build choice I don't think I could have done anything differently.

Good luck Brave Bear.

Game 1.  I don't think you got lucky at all antigoth.  You picked the better strategy and should have fired off earlier.  My count strat was reliable but just not fast enough.

Game 2. Turn 3 hoard is pretty hard to defeat on that board.

Game 3.  I could have won too on the last turn but went into autopilot because I thought my deck was unstoppable.  Of course I stall instead of icing it.

Game 4.  I think a scout-scout strategy would have beaten both of ours in that game.  Rats is a trap card that I cant seem to avoid or maybe I just don't know how to play it well.

Game 5.  This was an obvious engine board however there wasn't plus buy so I thought BM-Masquerade would be faster.  I completely forgot about HoP and really should have lost this one.

Great fun games anitgoth!  Good luck in the rest of the trny.

Thank you Qvist for the games!

Game 1.
What can I say I get really unlucky and missed connecting my baron with estate on the first shuffle.  When going for mirror in baron/stables getting that far behind that early was really bad for me.  What I should have done was maybe just gone CY-BM which I think was just as fast.

Game 2.
I got really outplayed here with BOM.  It had soo much end game control. The fact that my treasure was all at the bottom of my last shuffle isn't enough for me to blame luck.  Good job Qvist seeing how good BOM was there.

Game 3.
I think I got really lucky with my heralds on the last couple of turns, drawing a copper and hitting something, drawing a copper then hitting something.  I don't think BC was good here at all though.

Game 4.
I misplay here dramatically and bought the last IGG instead of a Province.  I think he gets pretty lucky by hitting Province while I hit 5 for what feels like forever.

Anyways you pretty much covered most of that Qvist, but I had to comment.

Thanks again for the matches and good luck in the rest of the tournament!

91
The reason I voted for Ghost Ship is the bonus.  If there are no villages then good luck ever having a hand of more then 5 cards for the rest of the game.  I would like GS a whole lot more if it had another bonus like +1 action, +$1.  This would allow you to attack each turn but still play another terminal in the absence of villages.

Game 1: http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?/20140310/log.516e333ee4b082c74d7d297e.1394490688071.txt

This is an obvious Storeroom-Tunnel board, with Warehouse to sweeten the combo even more.  Unfortunately, my deck decided that I will play Merchant Ship-BM, as I am unable to get almost any $3 or $4 hands (and only one $5 hand).  During the first seven turns, I draw Estate/Estate/Estate/Copper/Copper three times, and every time I hit $6 I feel like it's silly not to get Gold.  I'm actually not sure if I played this right.  Should I have gone for the combo, or adapted to my draws?  I think I'm fighting a losing battle either way.  He goes for Treasuries later which I don't really understand, but he definitely has it with the combo anyway.

Game 2: http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?/20140310/log.516e333ee4b082c74d7d297e.1394492234400.txt

I think this is literally the most painful game of Dominion I've ever played.  I get a $5/$2 opening which should be great on a Cultist board.  He opens double Ambassador.  I pick up an Ambassador, but he manages to thin quickly and hits me really hard with Estates.  Later on I figure my only shot at winning is to take advantage of the 295,218 Estates he's given me and I try to pile Estates, but once he gets a couple of Province hands I know I'm doomed.  I resign while swimming through a deck of 9 Estates, 9 Ruins, 9 Coppers, and 9 "good" cards.

Game 3: http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?/20140310/log.516e333ee4b082c74d7d297e.1394493281079.txt

There's a lot of power cards on this board: Mountebank, Counterfeit, Forager, Rabble, and Torturer, and we have Festival as a village.  I open Forager/Silver which may have been a mistake, as I miss $5 on my second shuffle, but he doesn't punish me for it, as he gets Counterfeit rather than Mountebank.  I get some Rabbles for draw, but they definitely should have been Torturers.  I was thinking that Mountebank would be handing out Curses anyway, and Rabbles would be important after we start greening, but we never really start greening because piles are low so the Rabbles are effectively Smithies for most of the game.  I pick up a couple Graverobbers later on hoping to turn my $5's into Provinces, which I do once at the very end.  I end the game on three piles with the billions of buys my Festivals and Foragers are giving me.

Game 4: http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?/20140310/log.516e333ee4b082c74d7d297e.1394494726908.txt

We both go for the same general plan: use Chapel to thin, get Scrying Pool(s), and then Mystics, hoping to Province every turn.  With no +buy and no villages there's not much else to do, but the discard attacks make this faster than BM I think.  The key difference between our decks is that I go for Militia, while he skips it in favor of getting his draw going faster.  He beats me buy a turn; I probably made the wrong play breaking PPR at the end, since I think my deck had better longevity than his since I had more SP's.

Thanks again for the games, BraveBear!  Good luck in future rounds!

Game 1
I get fortunate with 4/3.  I really think you should have gone haggler on this board, but I think it was an uphill climb with 5/2.  I liked my treasury buys.  I was hitting 6 and 7 a lot because of the 4 and 3 card hands that the warehouses and storerooms were leaving me.

Game 2
I had hands of CCCEAmb on turns 3 and 4.

Game 3
I thought I needed counterfeit for the extra trashing but you are right MB would have been a whole lot better.  You curse me first and get your rabbles going good while I buy another MB which never lets met draw well and I fall behind.

Game 4
Chapel mystics with only one SP, and for some odd reason an urchin that I never trash.  This one comes down to the wire.

Thanks for the games scott_pilgrim!

I hate Scrying Pool.

I played a lot IRL and SP always made the games take FOREVER and I never really played it well.

Now on Goko I try my hardest to never go for it, which means I get killed by it always.  Then I try for a once and awhile and BM beats me.  I know the card isn't that hard to play but it seems like I always go for it on the wrong boards and ignore it when its amazing.

What's the likelihood of not getting 3p on turns 3 or 4 after opening potion/silver?

I'm sure its discussed somewhere on this site however I couldn't find it.

The reason I'm asking is I played a game in Goko Dom against RTT with a board that included familiar and tournament and thought trying to rush prizes before he gave me a lot curses would be a viable strategy.

Also getting an early province is a great way to counter tournaments which is hard to do when opening potion.

Is my line of thinking wrong here?

Thank you RTT for the games.

Game 1, I did get quite unlucky with both my chapel and militia missing the first shuffle.  However if I was going to have any chance of coming back after that I should have started buying silvers instead of all those workers villages.  Even if I did that I still think it was too much of an uphill battle.

Game 2, Yes I agree with you that familiar is the obvious choice.  However I still stand by my play to go hard for tournaments.  I've played many games where it takes a long time for someone to get a province when they go familiar and if I line up enough prizes before I get too clogged with curses then I'm all set.  However my huge mistake which you point out is not going followers with my second prize.  Also I shouldn't have bought that second trading post like you said, gold would have been much better.

Game 3,  This was a mirror match where I completely forgot you could gain with graverobber.  I trashed my two nobles much too early.  Great play recognizing that my economy was only at 7 and picking those nobles out of the trash.

All in All I think I made many mistakes against a great player.  Got unlucky didn't help but wasn't the reason I lost.

Hello

Not that this thread needs another person lashing out at goko, however I've come out of years of lurking to add my support.

I play IRL every week, have been for 2 years now.  Love the forum and its members and have really sharpened my game because of all of you and your insight.

I loved Isotropic and stopped playing online when it was shut down.  I couldn't take it anymore and recently bought all the cards on goko a week or two ago.  I have obviously been frustrated with my decision to give goko my money especially when it seems I waited for the worst time to get back into dominion online.

Well I thought I had a point to this message but I don't have any computer/coding skills or legal advice.  I guess I was just inclined for you all to hear another voice.  I really don't want online dominion to fade away.  Not just because I love the game but I have really enjoyed this forum and would hate to see it fade too....
