Dominion General Discussion / Re: A few random tactical questions
« on: February 05, 2013, 12:51:23 am »
1) I would Ambassador just because I'm mean (Unless my opponent has Ambassador in his deck as well with a high chance of just sending 2 curses back in one turn)

2) Not experienced with this card, can't answer that.

3) Hehe don't you hate it when that happens?

Wow I go on hiatus, come back, and this is still on the first page? :P

Also, this has indeed been a helpful thread. Glad I made it! :)

I play Chess rather casually, although in low level USCF tournaments. I love facing a tough opponent that makes me think as long as that opponent isn't cocky.

Why not an option in the profile for which one it defaults to? ^^

This may have been asked previously, but what is your favorite type of person to work with?
Also, what is your favorite Pokemon?

Goko Dominion Online / Re: Player order...
« on: February 05, 2013, 12:38:10 am »
I don't really understand what the source of confusion is here.

82
That Goko would do as poorly as it has, so I could warn everyone.
But then that takes out all the surprise!

That I would get too hooked on the online version to think of buying a physical copy of the game >.>;;

What are some general things you wish you knew when you started Dominion?

I thought we could make a list of everything we wish we knew when we began our journey into this wondorous game of medieval strategy.

Example:
I wish I understood/knew how the reshuffle worked.
I wish I knew that I should focus on making engines, not Big Money, in most of my games.

Any advice for getting a Mother who has honestly no interest in board games hooked on Dominion? (Base only)

Would you consider a Curse-X card but instead it being called Black Magic? (To be casted by Black Mage ;) )

Note: Above question refers to the Super Witch example.

So the player learns as the developer developed the game ;]

This brings up another question:
Was any tweaking done to Estates/Provinces/Colonies?

I have no problem with rules, if they were upfront. If there was somewhere that said cursing is not acceptable on the forum I wouldn't have posted that. As far as I know there's nothing like that.
I have contested this exact subject of argument with theory in the past through a series of PM's, and I have even sited other forums that have a list of either rules or guidelines for both the users to follow when posting and the moderators to follow when moderating. Unfortunately,  I see no change of this in the near future.

Having someone or someones  critique my games. This reveals things that I've overlooked, looked at incorrectly, or never looked at to begin with. This also helps me understand how my higher level opponents might look at a certain card or engine as opposed to how my lower level opponents look at a certain card or engine.

Of the great multitude of questions you have answered throughout the wonderful Adventure Dominion has Tunnel 'd you through, which was your favorite question about Dominion?

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Announcing Dominion Set Generator
« on: December 07, 2012, 07:04:40 pm »
By default it seems to have 1 or 2 villages per set, which I'm not sure I like.
Agreed. I tried Base-only and it has either Throne Room, Festival, or Village.

Game Reports / Re: What did my Opponent do wrong that lead to my win?

Torturer and treasure is stronger than you might think. The Goko bots taught me that. Here an opponent is only getting the better of torturer+treasure when playing multiple torturers, and that means getting some good throne combinations drawn. Thrones will be played on some mediocre cards like spies and havens to generate actions for the torturer rather then being played on the torturer itself. Any lab bought is a missed opportunity to buy a torturer. Even when the deck draws well there are no useful extra buys or gains. Nonetheless there's some potential for a throne room engine but I'm not at all surprised that one failed.
Thanks to you and to ftl(what is up with 2-3 letter names o.o) for your advice. I found yours especially helpful to my improvement as I never thought of doing that sort of engine, has an article been written/posted about this on the blog yet?

Of the many people you've met (both irl and online) through the making of this wondrous game we call Dominion, who do you think has had the biggest effect on how the game has evolved over time? Who has had the biggest effect on how the community has evolved over time?

I'm rather confused about what it was that my opponent did wrong that lead to my win. Was it just that the available actions were just that weak that my BM-focused deck was just strong enough to win?

Villages The term village does  not just specifically refer to the Domion card Village; it is a Dominion term for any card that give +2 actions, and usually some other + as well. These cards usually (but not always) have the word village in

Spelling mistake. Dominion (should probably specify as "the Dominion base card") is what I believe you meant to say.

4. Control what you put into your deck.
·   This topic may not have the greatest title, but it means: pay attention to what you put into your deck.
·   You are not required to buy a card every turn.
·   You are not required to use all your buys.
·   You are not required to use all your money. Just because a card is more expensive that doesn't it automatically make it better for your deck than a less expensive card.

Take out the "it" here.

Provinces Smovinces, what about Platinum?!!? I mean that is so hard to even buy but when you do it is like "BLAM BABY I JUST GOT $5 from 1 card!!!" I don't even know how many games I've lost due to my opponent getting more Platinum out of his Smithies!
edit: And dondon has 1 respect for every day of the year o.O congrats.

There was an exploit a while back that let you buy whatever you want since purchases were done clientside.  Platinum/Platinum opening for the win!

That's actually a pretty bad opening... if you are playing against someone using the same loophole, and he opens Colony/Colony, you lose. I wonder though, was the server at least checking the number of available buys, if not the amount of coin it costed? Because buying 8 Colonies on turn 1 is probably the strongest move.....
Noobs... obviously it is best to deplete every pile on the board on turn 1....
