The supply pile is Knights or Ruins with 2 different named cards ledt. You've played Contraband and the opponent named the bottom card,

Bringo!

I had considered other flavors of this question:
- If you play a Contraband, opponent names a card, but you can still buy something from any pile, how can this happen?
- During your action phase, you have 2 Golds in your hand, but you guaranteed cannot buy a Grand Market during your upcoming buy phase, how can this happen?

How can this happen?

gagillion may be not enough for double buy :P

gagillion > 1E100 > quadrillion > the most coins anyone has ever had during their buy phase

@Dingan: The card has potion in its cost?

Updated question.

Talisman

This works, but not what I had in mind.  Updated question.

I'm not sure if what I'm thinking of is how Goko would actually handle such a situation, but...

During your buy phase
- you have a gagillion coins and a quadrillion Potions to spend and 2 buys
- supply pile P has 2 cards left in it
- you can buy one of P, but not both
- you don't have any on-gain effect cards in play or in your hand (e.g. no Talisman). So at the end of your turn, the 1 of P that you did not buy is still there (you did not gain it).

How can this happen?

Don't know if it was already mentioned, but couldn't a stalemate situation arise where:
  • 2-player game
  • No Colonies
  • Opponents are tied in VP
  • There is 1 Estate, 1 Duchy, 1 Province, and 10 curses left
  • There are no sources of alt-VP
  • There is no way to trash cards from your deck
  • Embargos have been TR'd/KC'd to the point where there are 2 Embargo tokens on the Estate pile, 4 on the Duchy, 7 on the Province, and at least 1 on all other supply piles

Gender Bender
Action
$4
Replace all instances of the word "his" with the word "her" in all the action cards in your deck.  For example, Masquerade is now "Each player passes a card from her hand...".

Rats, with a hand full of rats
Copper, revealed from cutpurse
Any victory card, revealed by Bureaucrat

Therefore, X is Rats, Cutpurse or Bureaucrat.

No.  "I" am 1 card -- not a different card for each of the 3 actions.  Plus, puzzle says it's your turn and I am in your hand, so I can't be revealed with Cutpurse or Bureaucrat because those reveal cards in other players' hands.

I am in your hand.  On your turn, you play 1 action card -- card X -- and nothing else.  I can be revealed by playing X.  Without revealing your entire hand, X can be 3 and only 3 action cards (i.e. no Shanty Town, Menagerie, Poor House, etc.).  What am I?  What are the 3 cards you can reveal me with?

No shenanigans (Possession, Golem to play more actions, etc.)

Um, Transmute.  Duh.  It's immune to Swindler, and gels with Apprentice.

The Herald engine has a problem - it needs Heralds. A Big Money player can just Embargo the Heralds, and then you're in a lot of trouble, because the ways to deal with Curses are meh. I don't think you can avoid the Hag here... Hag/Scheme is solid, and then look at what your opponent does. As P2, depending on how my opponent opens, I'd consider opening Embargo if he already commits to a strategy.

This is probably what I would do.  If they're obviously going Herald, I'd Embargo it and let them do it.  I think the Embargo tokens + Hag/Scheme could slow them down enough to make it too slow.  I could see the game ending on Curse-Herald-Duchy, so I'd probably just junk them as much as possible, then Death Cart stuff away at the end or something.  I just don't see Herald engine really taking off because there's no real thinners or draw here, other than chaining a bunch of Heralds together.  A Smithy or something here would be a game changer.  As is, I don't see it taking off until like turn 15 or something -- too slow.

probably could have as soon as he said he gets explorer as soon as he can.

They can't all be the best card list ever.
I'm interested in the top 10 top 10 card lists.
How about the top 10 of those?

You could also just have 2+ Goons in play.  Puzzle says no on-gain effects, but Goons triggers on buy.
The puzzle does say "etc.", in which some would put on-buy effects into.

Oh hmm in 3p it isn't "all" 10 Curses, is it.
If there are 10 left, I would say "all".  But maybe my Engrish needs better.

Another easy one (hey, they're not called "Easy Puzzles" for nothin)...

You are losing in VP.  You have 10 buys.  You buy and gain all 10 curses.  You are now winning in VP.  How can this happen?  There are no on-gain effects going on, no Possession, etc., just plain old fashioned curse buying.

12 Gardens.

Another one: 12 Fairgrounds
Or: 11 Fairgrounds
Or: 6 Fairgrounds
Or: 10 Fairgrounds
Or: 8 Fairgrounds
Or: 7 Fairgrounds
Or: 9 Fairgrounds

Fairgrounds solution is what I was thinking because I was thinking 2-player game.  I guess the Gardens works in 3-player games though.

I think this one will be pretty easy...
You play an Embargo to put an Embargo token on the Curse pile.  Then you buy an Estate, which gives you all 20 curses (it's a 3-player game) due to Embargo tokens being on the Estate pile.  You don't do anything else this turn (no more buys, no Possession shenanigans, etc.).  How is this possible?  (I'm pretty sure this can happen, but not 100% sure as I've never actually done it.)

There were 27 Embargo tokens on the Estate pile from 9 King's Courted Embargos.
Yeppers!

How about a WORST 10 cards?  I.e. cards that when they show up, make you yell "TRUCE" to your computer, only to have your roommate look at you like you're crazy.

My top 10 worst (1 is worst, 10 is 10th worst):
1. Possession -- makes any game screwy
2. King's Court -- changes the dynamic of the game more so than any other card, to the point where it's annoying
3. Swindler -- often screws up any strategy, and luck dependent
4. Cultist -- it's almost always quickly sought after early by both players, forcing double-Silver openers, which is boring
5. Urchin / Mercenary -- often whoever gets the first Merc wins
6. Tournament -- a cool card, but like Merc, whoever gets first crack at the Prizes almost always wins.  lame.
7. Tribute -- can't count on it for nothin
8. Saboteur -- see Tribute
9. Transmute -- because, duh
10. Scout -- what's a top 10 worst list without Scout?

  • There's 10 Embargo tokens on the Estate pile.  You have Trader in hand.  Buying the Estate gives you that and 10 Silvers, which bumps up your Gardens/Feodums.
  • You deck consists of only 1 Gold and 1 Silver.  You know your opponent will play a Masquerade on his next turn, and for whatever reason giving him anything besides an Estate or a Curse would enable him to buy the last Province and win.  Curse pile is out, so you have to buy the Estate to give him.  If he buys the Duchy, he'll lose.  You buy the Duchy next turn, which 3-piles, and you win.
  • There are 2 Silvers left.  Estate and Duchy are the only cards in the supply costing 5 or less.  You know you can buy a Duchy next turn.  You buy the Estate now.  Next turn, Trader it for the +2 Silvers, which bumps up your Feodums, buy the Duchy, which 3-piles the game.

I'm sure there are more fringe cases.

I knew this one was easy ;) is there actually a way putting it on your NV mat ?

No way I can think of.  Similar question though:
I have 1 Native Village in my deck (including my current hand and any mats) that is not on my NV mat.  Without gaining anything else, how can I put it on my NV mat.  Band of Misfits is not in the supply.

Opponent Masquerades you a Native Village, you play it and set aside the other NV.

Other answer: BoM was in the Black Market deck.

Yet another answer: BoM was in the supply but now the pile is empty.

Yeppers.  I was thinking of your second answer.  Hadn't thought of Masquerade as I have always thought that getting a card via Masquerade should be a "gain".

Since there are obviously many ways to interpret question (1), here is the answer I had in mind:

Tournament.  I play one, opponent reveals a Province.  I play second one, opponent facepalm's.
