My first game with Empires included Baths as the landmark and Overlord. Everyone (4p) bought overlord with their first or second buy and cashed in on baths for their next two turns while paying down debt. Don't know if it was a powerful move, but we all appreciated having baths when debt is on hand.

My question is, if all the cards are listed in alphabetical order, then why is Royal Blacksmith found where it is?

This is in fact in the Empires rulebook, in the section explaining debt; you can't overpay with debt.

We all may have to put this argument and discussion on hold until we see what is in the rulebook regarding debt. It could very well be all explained and defined in there.

In a 2-player game, you use one of each unique Castle card. In a game with more players, there are duplicates of four of them (Humble, Small, Opulent, King’s).

My first note is that the Haunted Castle is not an Attack type card so it cannot be lighthoused or moated

When I "bought" my house, I did not pay its cost.  You could argue that I did not buy it, but that is how people use the language.

I don't have experience with this, but isn't the process usually that the bank gives you money and you then give it to the seller?

No, the bank buys the house from and pays the seller, and when we pay the bank what the house cost then we get the house.

That reddish hexagon means you don't pay for City Quarter or Royal Blacksmith up front. Instead you take some tokens that say how much you owe.

So this changes the way we deal with a cards cost. You don't 'pay' with debt. You take debt which shows how much you owe.

EDIT: the definition of 'cost' hasn't changed

I now want there to be a way to save up unused money from previous turns to pre-pay debt.

Does anyone sell these on ebay or etsy? I'm not handy and would prefer to purchase something, though I would be willing to give making this a shot.

Although you will want to change the latches to something more sturdy after you buy it.

http://dominion.diehrstraits.com/ has all the card images in one place, but I don't think they are PDF's. I don't know what they are, but I'm sure it's a start.

So GendoIkari,

how do I post those images of cards when I don't have a gamelog?

My IRL game last night had an interesting combo come up. The event cards were Ball and Travelling Fair.
http://dominion.diehrstraits.com/?set=Adventures if you are not familiar with the events.
Treasure map was also on the board. I discovered that with my first turn with 7 money, I buy Ball (so that I can put gained cards on top of my deck) then Travelling Fair, gaining two treasure maps. Guaranteed treasure map action! The other guys in my group also made that move as soon as they had 7 money too so it didn't give me the distinct advantage, but it was a fun combo to find.

Game Reports / Cultist or Witch
« on: October 10, 2015, 05:18:07 am »
Gear, Steward, Masquerade, Smugglers, Workshop, Horn of plenty, Plaza, Stables, Cultist, Witch
Events: Quest, Ferry

4 player IRL (no log)

I went for Cultists (which were ignored by all the other players, they hadn't seen it much and were unfamiliar with it) and got about 5 before I started greening. I had used the ferry to make my cultists cost 3, then gained them and plazas with a workshop. The plazas went quickly as they were the only source of actions and were the first empty pile. No one touched masquerade or HOP. We used steward for trashing. Quest was used a lot to gain golds as people would use stables to draw cards then buy a Quest to discard their mostly ruins and cursed hand to gain a gold. Witch was an afterthought with only a couple of them purchased.

I ended up winning with 31 points (5 Provinces plus other stuff and curses). But I think my deck could have been more streamlined. What would you buy here? Is witch stronger than cultist on this board? How many cultists do you buy when they are uncontested? Do you continue to buy them after the ruins are gone, or do you switch to witches? The guys I play with still look at me funny when I trash coppers but they all started to buy stewards when the ruins and curses became too much for their deck to bear.

I still don't know how to play HoP. Would it have worked here or does it need a more reliable source of actions to get more cards in play? I guess I was playing plazas, cultists, stewards, and treasures on most of my hands so it would have been worth 4-5 regularly.

Dominion FAQ / how to get card images in my post?

I see on the other subforums for help or showing off a game, some people are able to post the card images for the kingdom they played at the top of their post. How can I do that please? I looked in the wiki under 'posting' but it wasn't mentioned.

I'd open Masquerade on a NV/Bridge board. It seems pretty unlikely that Herbalist/Pstone is strong on a board with Masquerade, I'm not even sure it beats Masq BM. It can probably speed up the Ironworks rushes as well, letting you pile out faster in a nonmirror. And it might help you win the Gardens/Silk Road split if it's a mirror.

200 years from now, when the interwebs are being excavated and the dust is swept off of this sentence, the archaeologists will find it untranslatable.

Dominion: Adventures Previews / Randomizer app with Adventures?

I use randomizer apps to play my IRL Dominion games. The apps I have now have not yet been updated with Adventures. Does anyone know of a free randomizer app (iOS) that has Adventures yet?

Dominion General Discussion / Re: IRL Adventures stories
« on: April 26, 2015, 04:46:15 am »
Just played Adventures IRL with my game group and I have a couple of thoughts.
I played with the suggested set Adventures & Hinterlands: Raid / Haunted Woods, Lost City, Page, Port, Wine Merchant / Develop, Farmland, Haggler, Spice Merchant, Trader

and the suggested set Adventures & Cornucopia: Travelling Fair (we added Alms) / Artificer, Miser, Page (we played Peasant instead), Ranger, Relic / Fairgrounds, Farming Village, Horse Traders, Jester, Menagerie

-It can get very difficult to remember how many cards your opponenet gained on his turn when playing with the Treasure Hunter, especially after your opponent has already cleaned up his hand.

-Miser is very good, especially if you can get your +action or +buy token on it.

-Relic is very strong. Get a good engine going and you can handicap your opponent on every turn, very nice. I very handily beat my group due to a couple of relics in my deck.

-Alms is a nice event to have around. You can open 4/4 virtually and it gives you a nice boost up when you don't want to buy another silver with your $3 hand.

-Champion feels like cheating. 'I get to play all of my action cards and your attacks don't affect me.' It's almost like I'm playing a different game than my opponents at that point. Also, Champion is not a traveler type card so it does not count toward the Warrior attack.

-Farming village and the -1 card token don't affect each other. The wording on Farming village doesn't say 'draw that card' so the -1 card token doesn't apply to it. I played that one wrong the first few shuffles.

Also, isn't traveler spelled with only one 'L'? On all the traveler cards it is 'traveller' which my spell-check tells me is the wrong spelling.

Also, what happens when a traveller type card is revealed to a jester? I guess since that card is not in the supply (unless it is page/peasant) that it is just discarded and no one gains anything?

Overall, I enjoyed it a lot, but I've been looking forward to it and reading the previews and things for a month now. My group seems a bit overwhelmed by it and a bit unimpressed but maybe it'll just be nice to learn the cards little by little as they get randomized into future games.

Are there any markings on the red or green tokens to distinguish them for the color blind?

So, the big -$1 "token" is similar to a Curse for money, right?  Just want to make sure I'm not reading into it too much.

It just makes the next time you gain money worth 1 less, only once. Until the next time it is placed in front of you.

In the pre-preview hints, Donald said that there are two 12-card piles, but I only see one Victory card in the set (Distant Lands). Am I missing another Victory card somewhere?

EDIT: I see on the other thread that Port has 12 cards. Interesting.

24
I already miss the days when Dominion used to let me just shuffle my deck and draw 5 cards for my next hand...sigh, tokens, events, reserves...this really is a variant instead of an expansion isn't it. What I wonder is, from a marketing position, why aren't each of these new things sold in their own expansions? This could be a way to sell three times as many expansion boxes.

25
So are the tokens part of the base setup now, or are they only in use when there is an event that calls for any specific token?
