*QI sirens*

The difference between Festival and Woodcutter is +2 Actions in effect, and +2$ in cost. Therefore each +Action adds $1 to the cost.

I'll do the same with Moat. Adding +2 Actions to Moat will obviously be balanced at $4... right?

I didn't say anything about adding or removing actions...

Dry Oasis, $1
+1 Card
+1 Action
Discard a card.

Also if you use Spice Merchant to trash a Copper and then buy another one, you played a terminal Silver. Wow, even Woodcutter can do better than that.

I really don't see why you don't just play a game or two. Try a cantrip trasher at $4. You will see how absurdly strong it is. Try another strong as the competition. Try Jack of All Trades. Try Sea Hag. See if they can compete with cantrip trashing. They can't.

I know what i'm talking about, i have tried to make a cantrip trasher work, myself. At one point it costed $2 but only entered your deck after your next reshuffle, which was still too good. By now it costs a Potion and trashes the Potion from play, which i hope will finally make it balanced.

Why not?

A bunch of reasons:

1. Gardens allready exists. Gluing it on another cards is redundant, and therefore, uninteresting.

2. Gardens is a simple but interesting effect. Gluing it on another card doesn't make it more interesting, but does make it less simple. Usually you should try to make your card as interesting AND as simple as possible.

3. On the flip side, there is no particular reason to add the Gardens effect to the card.

4. Considering the price point you gave, it should also be noted that $6 for Double-Gardens is so incredibly cheap and powerful that it not only makes Gardens irrelevant on any board where they both appear on (to avoid), but in fact will make your cards the only valid strategy on the vast majority of board it appears on. This degenerates the game, which is, again, something to avoid.

Respect from me for corner case when beggar/poorhouse is better than beggar/garden

You got Beggar from your opponent's Swindler, Poor House is the best engine payload on the board and the engine is stronger than Beggar+Gardens.

Seriously? That sounds an awful lot like "Scout/Chancellor is a great combo - if all other cards on the board are Embargoed five times and you got them both from Swindler."

I mean, come on. Swindled cards that aren't even used as part of a "combo"?

It's a lot better to get an Estate Swindled into a Beggar and then just build a regular engine than to also get your Worker's Villages Swindled into Gardens if you're going for the engine.

That's like saying that sometimes Curse/Gardens was better than Gardens/Worker's Village, because if Swindler had hit my Gardens and replaced it with a Worker's Village i would have less points.

Technically true, but i feel you are interpreting the question too much as "Can you make up a case where i would want to gain a Beggar instead of a Gardens if i allready bought Poor House?" instead of "Are there boards where Beggar/Poor House is a superior strategy to Beggar/Gardens?"

Rules Questions / Re: Black Market + Trader

That's awesome. So if you want a Silver anyway, you can do this to leave that useless Treasure Map for your opponent.

You have to pay one more $ than for regular Silver, and it just limits his choices by half. If the next player to use Black Market is you, you basically hindered yourself. With style, of course.

Are the +3VP a bonus you get each play or something you get at the end of the game?
At the end of the game, they are similar to an idea that i think Donald rejected. Giving points for Provinces is a bit boring, as you are trying to get the most of those, anyway. The difference would probably be that this makes you buy your card and Province in an alternating pattern, similar how Duke does with Duchies. Just with the difference that there's no real way to avoid participating in the "Province race".

If it gives the +3VP every time you play it, it's not only too strong, but also takes a while to resolve, as you'll have to look through your deck and discard pile to find all the Provinces.

Copper is usually a card opponents want to get rid of - and you want to, too. You are almost always better off with doing a bonus that doesn't make you gain those bad cards and doesn't scale with different amounts of players. Cutpurse and Pirate ship both avoid it (Pirate Ship gains 1 token regardless of the number of trashed cards, Cutpurse gives straight +$2). Thief does both, but Donald recently said it makes him look bad as a designer, and Noble Brigand does scale with different player numbers but at least provides some non-scaling bonus and doesn't gain  Coppers.

What's your point?

That cantrip coin is more often more useful than cantrip trasher.

What's your point?

That cantrip coin is more often more useful than cantrip trasher.

That doesn't follow from anything you said, plus it's not true.

Playtest. Use Peddler and declare that it costs $4. Use another card and declare that it does just cantrip trashing. You will see the difference.

COURIER (Action - Reaction) $4
+1 Card
Discard any number of cards. Gain a card costing exactly $1 per card discarded that is not a Victory card.

When you would gain a card other than during your Buy phase, you may discard this from your hand. If you do, gain a card costing up to $2 more instead.

Note that if you use Courier's Reaction on another Courier you played, you can still gain a Victory card!

I read this as "discarded Victory cards don't count toward the total" instead of "you cannot gain a Victory card". It should say, "Gain a non-Victory card costing exactly $1 per card discarded."

Both the original and your wording have the problem that you can read them as "For each discarded card, gain a non-victory card costing $1". May i suggest to use "Gain a non-victory card costing $X, where X is the number of discarded cards.".

If you could talk to any food, and that food could respond, what food would you talk to and what would you say?

(I used this in a job interview once.  Phenomenal answer by the one I hired.)

Was his/her answer, "I think I'm going to go now. Thank you for your time"?

As long as it wasn't "I'm doing it right now."

Pearl Diver is gained in more than half the games where it is available. It is not a terrible card.

It's not particularly useful most of the time, but it's nonterminal, handsize-neutral and available at a price point where the decision is often between Pearl Diver and nothing.

In your opinion, is Goko or Isotropic better for playing Dominion?

You can't play Dominion over Isotropic. So, Goko.

Yoda lives in Bodega Bay, I mean on Dagobah.

"Attacking me the birds are."
In germany, Scrooge Mc Duck from Duck Tales' name is "Dagobert Duck". I always thought Dagobah had to do with him, though it was REALLY hard to find a connection.

By the way, if your kids like Kirby, i think that "Return to Dreamland / Kirbys Adventure Wii" (depends on region) is a great Kirby game.

You missed one, Asper.

Thank you. That should have been "12 Gardens, 1 Fairgrounds". I don't know how this happened.

Damn. I was just trying to make you check your list compulsively until you realized that I was trolling you.

What if i told you that the list was complete and i just claimed to edit it to troll you for trying to troll me? Hypothetically speaking.

3341
While i don't particularly mind Mediator, i would like you to note that it does nothing to end the game. Bishop and Goons do it very clearly, while Monument just becomes a pretty bad card if you ignore the part that helps end the game (the +$2). The problem of +VP cards is that you might want to play them indefinitely, and that's nothing we want (though Fortress/Bishop is now a case where you actually can have that situation).

Another easy one (hey, they're not called "Easy Puzzles" for nothin)...

You are losing in VP.  You have 10 buys.  You buy and gain all 10 curses.  You are now winning in VP.  How can this happen?  There are no on-gain effects going on, no Possession, etc., just plain old fashioned curse buying.

12 Gardens.

if you draw prince with scout and no other actions (say a swindler game.... omg sidenote... swindler is mean with prince on the board... at least with peddlers you can just buy them all) you should surely prince the scout; it's better than waiting around for a better prince target.

True. It's not great, but a free action, potentially more non-green cards in hand and some anti-Swindler rearranging are better than two potentially dead cards in your deck.

So it becomes worse than copper from then on.

So does Chapel.

Which costs $2.

The same goes for Junk Dealer and Upgrade, which both cost $5. Chapel gives neither card nor action, both of which Hospital and the other two offer. The difference is which other bonus the card gives on top of it: Junk Dealer gives a coin, Upgrade gains a card, Hospital gives an action. It's not a $4. That doesn't necessarily mean it's a $5, though. Some cards are just not very good to price. If you think that another $5 Village is a bad idea (I don't think i play Festival or Bazaar that often), either change something about the card or scrap it.

Sounds like an even more painful Cache.

Wow, i can't believe i didn't realize this similarity.

In case you didn't know, Domus: Cache is a Treasure card costing $5 that gives $3, like Gold. It's only drawback is that you gain two Coppers when you gain it.

Ok. How about a card which lets you guess the top card on the deck of every other player then once you spy on them, for each card you guess right you can choose to gain a copy of it or make the owner gain a copy of it??

This is the card Jester from the Cornucopia expansion, which is very similar to your idea:

Jester, $5, Action-Attack
+$2
Each other player discards the top card of his deck. If it is a Victory card, he gains a Curse. Otherwise, either he or you gains a copy, your choice.

It reminds me of Beggar. Beggar gains three Coppers and puts them in your hand. Your card gains only two Coppers, but it puts them on your deck. Your card gives an action, but Beggar costs much less ($2). Lastly, your card doesn't fail if Coppers are out, but Beggar has a mediocre reaction part against attacks. All in all i think it's weak. It costs a lot more than Beggar but isn't that much stronger, especially when you consider that each play reduces the use of the +1action (as your action card density decreases each play).
