the other good news, which is not as good as good news that doesn't come with bad news, but not as bad as bad news that contains no other good news

I had no trouble not misunderstanding what you didn't not say.

I'd love to see someone do a compare-and-contrast of Jester with Rogue; they seem to have a lot in common in terms of what they actually do.

Jester: great at gaining random cards from your opponent and/or mildly junking their deck. Only as good as your opponent.

Rogue: trash a card from your opponent's deck so they can steal it back the next turn.
Unless you can play rogue many times per turn, problematic. On the other hand, Rogue is also nice as an assist for trash-for-benefit where you can pull the cards you trashed back. (Duchies from rebuild, or border villages for an extra on-gain).

At ±3σ we can basically be sure that Tournament is better than scout, and not much else.
The standard deviations listed here are the standard deviations of the votes given (at least, I assume so). The standard deviation of the mean of the votes is sqrt(n) times as small (where n is the number of votes), so on this list 11 times as small. This means that small differences are already quite significant on this list (which is not that strange with a sample size of >100).

For example, if we take "statistical significant" to mean ±3σ, then Tournament (#2) is statistical significantly rated higher by our community than Ironmonger (#5) (and also higher than all cards below Ironmonger1).

 >>> WARNING: MATH AHEAD <<<

This is because their difference in weighted average is
88.5 - 81.4 = 7.1
and the standard deviation of the difference (of the average) is2
σ = sqrt(14.9^2+18.9^2)/sqrt(121) = 2.2
So 0 is 3.2σ away from the mean, which means that Tournament is statistical significantly higher than Ironmonger.

----------
1 this does not follow automatically, since the standard deviations can be higher.
2 here I'm assuming that they are independent (or at least that their covariance is 0), which is not entirely correct, but close enough

I spent some time thinking about it (much more time than I spent thinking about my previous post) and your point can't possibly be correct. For one, intuitively we know that all of the rankings are dependent on one another-- if you rank a card #1 you cannot possibly rank any other card #1 so the covariance cannot be zero-- every single mean is related to each other by virtue of the fact that no sample can give two cards the same rank... They are ranked lists and your math is treating each card rank as independent samples, which they most certainly are not...

My napkin-math can't be right either, because I was assuming the same thing you were (except I don't think your formula is right but I'm not a statistician). Now I'm not sure what the standard deviation means or how to use it to compare cards, just that it seems high for most cards relative to the means.

54
Walled Village - Again I probably overrated it a few spots, but I still see all of the villages as enablers which are critical to making the engines work since a terminal draw without a village is an engine stopper.
You probably aren't overrating it, I think the villages should be a lot closer to each other on this list.

The standard deviation on all the cards is so high that you can't put too much emphasis on specific rankings, especially within 1 or 2 spots. If you look at ±1σ which is hardly a strong criteria the ranking is something like Workers Village & Plaza > (All other Villages) >= Walled Village.

At ±3σ we can basically be sure that Tournament is better than scout, and not much else.

Just thought I'd remind the #vpoff crowd, if you put a special character in your name your points can't be tracked anyways...
I was reminded of it while playing against 'Goko took my $$'

I thought Catacombs and Journeyman were both considered very good terminal draw. Has estimation of them changed of late?

They are pretty good terminal draw. It's just that, there are things more powerful than terminal draw alone...

It would have a nice combo with Diadem too!
(Not Student loans)

Loan and Bag of Debt would not combo together I don't think...

Well, you start with Loan, and later when you find yourself with Bag of Debt all your Gold keeps disappearing.
At least you don't have to worry about Taxman!

I'm looking at the logs and it looks like the websocket connection isn't working. wss://wss.prod.dominion.makingfun.com:443 can't be connected to in the code. Salvager is probably failing because the connection isn't there.

I like them all! They are my favorite cards! What do I do??

Counting House is good at least sometimes. Harvest is just pretty much never worth getting, even though it's less bad in the situations where Counting House is bad.

Harvest as the only source of money with doubletac or scrying pool has to be more common than the times you'll need to have lots of copper...

That's backwards, though. Counting House itself can be the reason you flood your deck with Copper, because the amount of Coins it can produce is effectively unbounded. Harvest can only ever give you $4.

I feel like too often we judge cards based on how good they are in the deck we already want to build instead of how good they can be if we build a deck to accommodate them.

And the more coppers you have in your deck, the less often you see Counting House, not to mention lowering the chance that you'll get Counting House in hand with something that gives +buy and can play them both. I love Counting House decks. They are fun! They are also incredibly rare, and most often don't work, or are slower than some other crazy strategy.

Don't get me wrong, harvest is a crappy card, but it can be useful as a support card in action-heavy decks with some sort of mega-drawing going on so I guess it deserves some love.

I like the points counter. I can usually keep track within 2-3 points (if no alt-vp usually almost exactly) without it, but it's nice to not to have to spend the mental effort. It lets me focus on other things. Also, I may be different than some of the people here but I get annoyed when another player is ahead, could end the game, but thinks they are behind and so they don't end it. I'd rather lose and start another game then win purely because I have better memory. I guess I'd rather lose to someone playing a better strategy than win because someone made a silly mistake.

I open Doctor/Silver with my 6/4 opening, gain 5 Provinces in 12 turns... and lose.

I got lucky in the end with that one. I have to say though, Count really made a difference for me there.

I've added a Salvager option to hide the launch screen ads.  It'll be in the beta shortly (and in the main release after that).

Meh, on further consideration I don't actually want Salvager to do this.  Feel free to retract your upvotes.

I upvoted your post after you edited thinking it was your original post and you were being very clever. Now
I don't know what to think.

Many disagreements for this part :

- Tunnel is points, and again victory cards are ranked way too low. Tunnel is without a doubt a top 5 card.

That's not even remotely possible. All of the current top 5 are incredibly powerful 'game-changers'. When Tunnel has enablers, it is a decent addition that you have to watch carefully, lest it choke up your deck. When it doesn't have enablers, it's a poor man's duchy.

- Storeroom is so underrated. It's a key piece for all those engines with little to heavy draw. I think in general cellar and secret chamber are underrated (though I agree SC one of the worst $2), SC can be sometimes a nice source of money (especially powerful when you can draw again what you discarded). Storeroom is just a better secret chamber, the +buy helps a lot and the cellar effect adds flexibility.

Storeroom is a great card, and I usually get one, but it deserves to be where it is. It is a great compliment to any engine, and can help a little with BM, but it's only as strong as your engine, and almost never defines the game the way the more powerful cards do.

I would rank all those higher than Village, Urchin, Scheme and Market Square. Especially market square. Market square is just not that good.

I can't really understand that thinking. Market square lets you get gold for free by getting rid of cards that you wanted to get rid of anyways, AND is a cantrip +buy, how can that possibly be worse than tunnel?
Also, urchin is mediocre but mercenary is amazing. I definitely ranked urchin with that in mind.

About the first part, as always I think Fortune teller is underrated.

Especially with shelters, fortune teller is a bit of a joke. If you get it early, it doesn't set your opponents back that much, if you use it midgame it won't do anything, and in the end game, there usually are much better terminal actions to play. Lets not even get started about how it can topdeck nobles or harem for your opponent. It would be a better card if it's effect could stack. It's certainly the worst $3 attack, I'm a bit surprised it beat out develop but there you go.

68

Shanty Town: It's worth mentioning that the Lab effect works a lot of the time in the early game, allowing you to get a village early without giving up much economy.

in combination with discarding (oasis, embassy, minion), or basically any non-terminal actions shanty towns can be made to act like a lab more often than not. if you have cards that let you rearrange the top of your deck, you can line it up. So it can be very useful in certain conditions.

The next release of Goko Salvager will probably entirely replace the Goko ratings with Isotropish ratings.
Looking forward to this, does this mean that it also uses the Isotropish level for the title parameters/automatch?
Isotropish parameters in title are problematic because of people without extension. Autokick for certain level is brutal when no-extension users don't know their level.

Sorry for making unilateral announcements, yed.  Now that the full-time WS connection is working, I was planning to implement the option to show and sort by Isotropish ratings instead of Goko's pro ratings.  Also to replace their leaderboard display.

I'd personally value autokick by Isotropish level, but I share your concern as well.

Another issue is if we change our names. The goko rating will stay but Isotropish will reset to zero unless there's been some clever coding I'm not aware of...

They printed fixed versions and if you buy one now I expect that's what you'll get; I got correct English copies. The problems delayed the general release of the English version, except at a few cons and I think in Europe, where people got wrong ones.

I'm a little confused. What language is the English version translated from?

I got the Ticket to Ride ap the other day. I found myself wishing online Dominion could be like that.

When I first saw that app I was completely amazed. They did it totally themselves, and it is great! At first, I was really impressed. And then I realized, hey this should be normal...

To be honest, I really like the feeling of getting several hundred points through bridge/Goons/alt VP. I hate it when someone quits before I can finish the megaturn--- at that point, it's not about them, it's about beating my previous records.  In the same vein, I'll let people crush me with megaturns just so they can have the satisfaction of pulling it off.

The only exceptions to these I have is tournament, KC-Masquerade pins, and bishop-fortress engines since all of those can take forever to end. And obviously I don't mind resigning if there's no mega-engine present.

Also I tend to resign later rather than sooner since there's been several games I've seen where the megaturn player lost by being derailed by a well-executed 3-pile that caught them a turn too soon.

Wow.  I'm completely flummoxed by this.  I can imagine a classy restaurant having fries on their kids menu, but that sort of place either wouldn't allow kids (in America) or wouldn't have a separate kids menu (as I understand it, that's most of the rest of the world.)  The very idea of paying $20+ for French fries is absolutely mind-boggling.  $4 in the US maximum.  Maybe $6 if you add cheese and chili--and I would imagine something similar in Canada for poutine.

Whaddya talking about? Gourmet poutine exists, from around $10 to $15, if you add on extra cheese and stuff it can go up to $20, plus that's with about 15% tax (don't need to tip much though since the minimum wage is pretty high)
http://labanquise.com/menu-poutine.php
gives you an idea of gourmet poutine. I personally like the guacamole, sour cream and tomato poutine though the ground beef, pepperoni, bacon & hot-dog sausages one is good too.

Seriously though, I wouldn't pay $20 for french fries. But Poutine is another matter all together!

You can bake French fries (chips), but what you end up with isn't so much a French fry as it is a sliced baked potato.  To get that crisp outside your really need direct contact with something hot and above 200 °C... oil just happens to provide that on all sides at once.  Baking just doesn't cut it for that...

Yeah, you can definitely bake french fries, I do it all the time, just cut them into the familiar shape, add salt, and cook at like, 350°F for an hour or so, flipping them every 20-30 min... I prefer making wedges, myself.
