Goko Dominion Online / Re: Waiting for Adventures On-line
« on: April 25, 2016, 07:01:15 am »
I asked Jeff about a release date this morning.  Haven't heard back yet.

You'll never hear from him again. Lord Bottington took over the company this morning. Everyone there is dead. The reason he did this was to continue the mediocrity that Goko had begun with their implementation of Dominion Online. He feeds off it. He cannot allow anything mildly decent to happen with Dominion Online, it is like sunlight to a vampire.

Seriously though, WHERE IS ADVENTURES.

Lord Bottington indeed took over MF. And soon he will turn all of us into rats, he had enough practice over those years. With Stef and SCSN in charge of the AI, that wouldn't have happened.

Thoughts on various cards

Quote
Campaign
Types: Event
Cost: $0
+1 Buy

Once per game, if you did not buy any victory cards this turn, take another turn after this one. You may not buy any victory cards for the rest of this turn.

Clarification: You may not buy any victory cards the turn you buy this event but any cards during the additional turn.
It seems like you would always buy this on your first turn.  I suppose you could use it later to catch your opponent with a surprise rush?

I am not sure whether you want your extra turn that early. You get one turn ahead if you do and your opponent does not, plus you cycle faster. However, if you buy it when your engine is up and running, the turn will be much better, you might get ahead two or three "first shuffle turns".

Quote
Coronation
Types: Event
Cost: $8
Once per game: Move your Crown token to an action supply pile costing up to $4. (When you play a card from that pile from your hand, after you resolve it, play it again.)

Clarification: When you play it again, it's already in play, so the event's effect doesn't happen again. For the same reason, you only get one extra play if you use Throne Room, King's Court, Procession or Disciple to play the card; and none if you use Golem, Herald or Prince. (Procession and Disciple say to "Play an Action card from your hand twice", but for the purposes of this card that's "Play [an Action card from your hand] twice", not "[Play an Action card from your hand] twice", as the card does not return to your hand.)

I agree this card is super strong and can't be correctly priced as is, but I still like the concept.
Maybe you could weaken the card by moving the token to a cheaper action card or removing it after you played the action due to Coronation.

Re: Prawn Shop

The name is obviously silly.

What do you think about naming it Fish Market?

It really depends whether you'd say the "but not less than "-part of the card is actually the card's effect or a rule that should be printed in the rulebook rather than on the actual card. With cards usually costing , the rule "cards cannot cost not less than " makes no sense as it does not increase the cost itself.
That text should avoid issues with negative money (Poor House) or negative costs (do I get when I buy it), so in my opinion, the second on Highway, Bridge etc. should not be a valid target for Patron.

In that regard, in Smithy-BM, would you rather buy a Gold or trash 2 Coppers for Silvers if you draw $7 and cannot or do not want to trash Estates?

Variants and Fan Cards / Another card that draws 5 cards when throned
« on: March 07, 2016, 12:21:39 pm »
Remembering the Adventures teasers, I just came up with this:

Quote
Name
- Action
+3 Cards

Take your -1 Card-Token.

I am not sure about the cost, probably since it seems pretty close to Courtyard.

Edit: After thinking about the card again, and realizing this is just a weaker Courtyard, the Smithy variant for seems better:

Quote
Name
- Action
+4 Cards

Take your -1 Card-Token.

I don't regret coming up with this before the Adventures contest, I don't think I would vote for this myself  ;)

Sage's Scrying Pool is too strong. First of all I would get rid of the Spy-ish attack part of any Scrying Pool (DXV said that this was wrong in hindsight) variant. Second of all, you can simply not buy a lot of 5s early on to make Sage's Scrying Pool draw virtually your entire deck. Far less effort necessary than in the case of Scrying Pool.
I just thought of a part where it could be "Reveal cards until you reveal +, if you reveal more than X cards, you only put the + and first Y revealed cards.

Just make Y=1 and you will have a card which compares to Hunting Party pretty well.

Goko Dominion Online / Re: Is an "Undo" button feasible?
« on: February 23, 2016, 02:52:55 pm »
I would prefer the option to have to double click when you do decisions you might regret (misclicks) like Isotropic did.
Confirm to pass/discard/trash (for no benefit) a card costing or more, play Treasures with Counterfeit or Contraband in play, play Coppers when you could buy GM etc.
This seems to be easier to implement than an undo button, also you could use it in some situations you could not use an undo button.

I doubt there would be a kingdom victory card when there are landmarks as a new way to score (via -Tokens I assume), so probably either 15 Events, 10 Landmarks or vice versa.

38
But you get to play the gained card if it is an action, so it is still sometimes non-terminal.

39
Gain a card (with some condition) and if it is an Action/Treasure, play it.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Scout's best combo?
« on: December 15, 2015, 09:25:09 am »
Either Masquerade or Ambassador, because you can use them to pass Scouts to your opponent.
But the question is: which one is better?

Ambassador, you don't need to buy Scout repeatedly and can't get it back on your own Masquerade play. Never did that, though.
I used Scout as a stepping stone for Upgrade on a Scrying Pool board recently without any other -cost (except for Potion).

Sorry, I missed to move the new MMF.dll file as well. Now it works fine. Thank you.

42
The Mac version is now available as well, thanks to the always amazing MdLC.

I downloaded the patch for Mac but I wasn't able to log in, when I used the MF file it worked fine for me. But thanks for the work, that patch looks excellent.

43
Trashing is that good, you depend on getting - costs most of the time and get that many you are likely to reveal at least one anyway, there is just no way you want to pass on trashing, especially when Dame Anna is the only trasher.

44
I think the Gold in hand would be great, but gaining two Golds would not change anything about the card.

Horn of Plenty megaturns are fun, so obvious choice for me.

You would just need 6 cards that you could gain with Crypt, so making a village to replace the Crypt instead of using the vague "gain a village" (you pointed out the problems with that phrase yourself) doesn't seem unreasonable.
Couldn't you always trash the Crypt itself when you play it? And if your new Shelters replace the old ones, you could use Necropolis to replace the Crypt when you trash it.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Lowering piles
« on: November 06, 2015, 12:27:02 pm »
Some trivial observations:
-you shouldn't do it if you're behind

Why not?

I agree to ehunt. In many cases you would just help your opponent in the lead to end the game more quickly with a win. In that situation you should get cards that help you to get the victory, don't just get them to lower the piles.

Variants and Fan Cards / Re: Tithe
« on: November 04, 2015, 01:41:38 pm »
I suggest you should get +2 Cards instead of +1 Card so you can actually discard a card to Tithe after your opponent played one without any support.
The discarded cards should have to cost or more as suggested and you should keep the self trashing after you gained a victory card similar to HoP to balance the card.

Quote
Tithe $6
Action - Attack

+2 Cards
Each player (including you) with five or more cards in hand discards a card costing or more (or reveals a hand with no such cards). You may gain a card costing up to the combined cost of all discarded cards. If you gained a victory card, trash this.

If that is to strong, you could use the Dark Ages costing -:
Quote
Tithe $6
Action - Attack

+2 Cards
Each player (including you) with five or more cards in hand discards a card costing to (or reveals a hand with no such cards). You may gain a card costing up to the combined cost of all discarded cards. If you gained a victory card, trash this.

That way, you could not repeatedly discard Provinces to gain Provinces, you can only get one with your opponent's help (or with cost reduction).

Or you could just exclude victory cards from the gainable cards:

Quote
Tithe $6
Action - Attack

+2 Cards
Each player (including you) with five or more cards in hand discards a card costing or more (or reveals a hand with no such cards). You may gain a card costing up to the combined cost of all discarded cards that is not a victory card. If you gained a victory card, kill yourself.

I voted Abandoned Mine first I think but I regret that now. Ruined Market is basically the only Ruins you will ever WANT to get, I recently found myself disappointed that Ruined Market never showed up, I would have bought that over playing Marauder, so actually there is absolutely no disagreement with this list.

It doesn't matter if they are kingmaking in 3-4 player games if you only intend to play 2 player games.

Enclave is basically like IGG but you don't get the copper gaining silver and don't deplete two piles at once. You might want to make it worth 0 for the owner and maybe adjust the cost to make it more distinct from IGG. Very vulnerable to your opponent's trashing though, maybe add an on-trash-clause that hurts the opponent or benefits the buyer, even the fortress clause might do.
You could make it worth 2 and pass it to the player on your right before scoring if you prefer that wording, it might make scoring easier.

I think Informant is fine as is, although might be fine at first glance.

Charity seems to be alright as well, an on buy copper gaining attack that doesn't have the issues that other copper gaining attacks have.
