Goko Dominion Online / Re: F.DS room on (public) Goko - Outpost?
« on: January 31, 2013, 06:21:26 am »
if you dont see the outpost room, then there is something in your browser blocking a script running. If you got to the multiplayer page and click on the rooms to choose there should be the possibility to scroll down a list of something like 50 rooms.

Maybe you can just see 7 rooms and no scroll bar. So the last visible room for you should be Laboratory. Choose that room, than go to the room menu again and press the cursor down button exactly 4 times. This brings you to the outpost room.

Or use another browser. When i use IE it shows me the rooms. In Chrome i don't see them. The game runs more smoothly for me in chrome, so use i nevertheless. But in the last couple of days i haven't met people in the outpost room.

Maybe we should change to the great hall. Its easaly accessible for the people with scroll problems, and you see if somebody is there wiithout going down the list. So you can easily play in the other rooms, and check from time to time if someone new is there.

i'm home with a cold, so i dont want to play any real dominion and decided to play with the inferior KC/ Scavenger combo. I noticed a couple of things. You reach the combo between turns 9-10 most of the times. 8 turns is lucky, and having it by turn 7 is the earliest possible. So its by no means slow.

On the other hand there is KC, and oftentimes there are better engines out. And sometimes you will get bad draws, and not assemble the combo at all. In the example above i get incredible luck, and pull of 8 provinces in 14 turns.

If you are gunning for the combo you open Scavenger / Silver with another Scavenger / Silver turns 3+4. You put away the deck with every Scavenger play and put the other Scavenger on top of your Deck. You want a 3rd Scavenger if you dont get to 7, and maybe another Silver (or Gold if you get to 6).

Once you have a KC you put it on top and hope to draw it with your Scavenger and buy the 2nd KC.

Turn 10 seems to be a tipping point. If you havent assembled the combo until now you basically have lost the game. The more cards you get in your deck the more difficult it will be to draw your Combo pieces.

This combo is fun the first games, but you really feel like a bot while playing it.

My favorite goko missklick is trashing actions you want to play next with Jack of all Trades. It's because the cards you can trash with Jack start to flash red, and i always think "yeah, thats what i gonna play now....wait why is it in trash now...f***

i will check the Outpost room from now on if players are there. I would have preferred secret chamber as well.

i played a game against Qvist recently, and chatted in german. there we notice that the word "jap" was censored. Yep, Yap, jep, jap,..... are terms to say "yes" in a more laid back fashion in german. So we were quite surprise to have this censored.

Is it possible that "jap" is considered explicit language in english. Maybe some sort of snidly denomination for Japanese. i really cant think of anything else

Goko Dominion Online / Re: Match Making
« on: January 08, 2013, 03:29:46 am »
I suspect a lot of people dont have all the sets, and are just joining games that are offered with all cards. Whenever Rats show up in my games i smile and enjoy the show. Yesterday i had a player with rating >5.500 who got like 13 Rats in his deck. There also was Death cart on the board, which he ignored until (too) late

I controlled the flow of rats with 2 Death card and watched him getting overrun. I usually point out that i think he has a minor rat problem. If he wants i offer some advice then. In the moment i tend to look at rat games as casual games, even in the Pro enviroment.

Regarding matchmaking: when i create a game i make people request to join, and have a look at their rating and quit ratio. Afterwards i decide wether i want to play them. Most of the time i'm generous, and don't decline a newbie. this method helped me eventually not to take Dominion play to serious, and i enjoy the games more.

Nevertheless, sometimes i want to play "real" opponents, so maybe we can create a sort of forum here where people post times when they are able to play, and make some appointments.

I wonder if a bot will ever get trapped in an endless Bishop-Fortress loop.

Help! / 98-94 on a Province board with Bisho/Fortress
« on: January 06, 2013, 07:15:44 am »
This has been a very intense Battle between Emeric and me on Goko. We both went for Bishop and Fortress and messed each other hands with Masquerade and Cutpurse. Emeric had the early lead, i catched up midgame and had the lead till the end, when Emeric broke PPR and i could not buy the last Province.

here's the log: http://dominionlogs.goko.com//20130106/log.5063625f0cf2b1ff4173dbab.1357473265446.txt

What would have been the best way to play this board? Is there something we missed?

Now, finding some actual time to play Dark Ages with my wife is tough with a 4 months old baby.  ;)

i find it quite difficult to play dark ages with my wife in general. She likes BM-type games, and whenever i manage to pull of an uncontested engine megaturn she walks off, doing laundry or some reading,... and dark ages is all about crazy engine possibilities (exception: rebuild)

Dominion Articles / Re: The Combo Deck
« on: January 04, 2013, 03:07:30 am »
there is also the KC + Scavenger + Silver/Platinum deck. You need two sets of theese and the kingscourted Scavenger puts your other set on top of your deck. This allows for a Provine/colony each turn. It also has some resilliance against discard attacks (exception: Minion)

It doesn't give me any achievements or anything, but I'm pretty proud of this record: 13-11-1. The record itself doesn't really look like much, but it's my record against Marin.

so you qualify for this: http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=3499.msg67813#msg67813

Round 2

Loppo 4 - Emeric (Move your Body) 1

Game 1: Loppo 21 - Emeric (Move your Body) 4
http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/19/game-20121219-113403-193338cd.html

a tough game with Witch, Goons, Watchtower, Hamlet, Highway. Emeric gets 2 Witches, i get 1 Witch 1Goons. We split the hamlets. I pick up more Watchtowers then a 2nd Goons. My Watchtowers work overtime trashing Curses, i still get 4 of them, but are able to pile out with a double Goons turn.

Game 2: Move your Body 20 - Loppo 15
http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/19/game-20121219-113911-aa1060e0.html

An Ill-Gotten-gains rush. I have a 5/2 start and feel quite secure, so i take a detour to pick up an Embassy and a Salvager. Meanwhile i lose the curse split 7-3, and it all goes downhill from there on.

Game 3: Loppo 59 - Emeric (Move your Body) 32
http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/19/game-20121219-115605-aeceb71a.html

Move your body has the 5/2 start and gets turn 2 witch. I go fishing in the black market. Bishop helps getting the curses in check, and we race for Farming Villages. My Black market gives me a horn of plenty, a Market, a throne room, a minion. Move your Body gets a goons, which gives me some headache, because meanwhile he is drawing his deck. Fortunately he has killed his economy, and i can pick up 6 Provinces in turns 14-20.

Game 4: Move your body 53 - Loppo 56
http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/19/game-20121219-120344-41c2906d.html

I try Duchy/Duke. I'm not sure Remake was the right choice for me. I pick up a bureaucrat later. Move your body goes for provinces, and steals some duchies too. I win the duchy split 5/3, dukes are 4/4. Meanwhile Move your Body has also 3 Provinces, and i have to catch up. I have plenty of silvers, Move your body chokes, so i can take the last Province for a 3 point victory.

Game 4: Move your body 31 - Loppo 32
http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/19/game-20121219-121106-6ac8ce2b.html

Another curse game. This time there is Mountebank, Ghostship, Tournament, Kingscourt and City in the kingdom. I open Tournamnet/Silver and get a turn 3 Mountebank. Move your Body opens Tournament/Trade route and gets his first Mountebank afte i have my 2nd. The game goes long, and his light trashing gives him a better deck. On the last turn i pick up the last duchy as a price from tournament, and buy an estate for an 1point vitory.

Thanks to Emeric (Move your Body) for the good games

IRL tournaments are usually 3/4 player tournamnets. so this situation might come up eventually.

Loser's Bracket / Re: Losers Bracket - Structure Discussion
« on: December 14, 2012, 02:41:49 am »
Looking Back at the evolution of the losers Bracket, wouldnt it have been better to make the whole touirnament organized swiss style. That would have taken care of the seating discussion, because the good players play each other starting from round 2, and everybody can play as long as he desires.

This last point is what i always liked in m:tg tournaments. No matter how bad you are (and i was quite bad) you would not be eliminated. So you feel like doing good, even if you are losing. And in the end you get a very accurate ranking of all the players.

Trisha mentionend on getsatisfaction that Cornucopia is about to roll-out. I expected it around x-mas. If it is in the deck builder right now, it should be available even earlier. Maybe even at the end of the week.

Having played quite a bit on goko lately, dare i say it: i start preferring goko to isotropic. I know a sentence like this can get you banned on this very forum, but it just feels more like "real" dominion for me. Of corse i have a IRL dominion background, and a lot of the other guys here play iso only, so they they are used to the iso interface. Just wanted to get this out of the way.

To add to the speculation, i think there will be a card costing 10*, then all costs from 0-11 will be covered.

I also no longer expect a card named "Archivist" to show up. I remember when i looked at my councilroom card stats long ago, that this card showed up amongst all other cards. It had a very low number of played games besides it, so i assumed it beeing a card in testing that somehow slipped through.

The win rates of Archivist were about 0.95 if i remember correctly, so it might be not the new power card.

Other Games / Donald X. new game Monster Factory
« on: November 27, 2012, 05:35:38 am »
On last weekends "Spielefest Wien" i discovered a new game from Donald X. Vaccarino.

Heres a link (doesn't say much though):

http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/112598/monster-factory

the game is a tile placing game, a little bit like Carcassonne. Your goal is to create monsters. The biggest completed monster wins. So it's quite easy, but nevertheless very cute. My daughters absolutely love it. The even dismissed a Walt Disney Princess + ballet thingy and claimed they would rather build monsters instead.

Talking to Jay from Rio Grande, this game has no publisher in german yet, so it might be a bit difficult to gain. I ordered a copy from great Britain. It just arrived yesterday, and we were playing a couple of games yesterday.

This game is a lot of fun and definitely suited for kids. The kids love it and the adults wont mind playing it. The monsters you create are really cute. It has a slight tactical approach, since you can mess around with other players monsters, so it might be also a step towards deeper boardgames.

If you are looking for a X-mas gift for a family with kids, you can easily do worse.
