Simple game where I think I played better but lost. Am I missing something here or was I just unlucky?

Help! / Sea Hag, Fishing Village, Wharf

really interesting game with Apprentice, Peddler, potential for fv- wharf engine, and sea hag. I feel like one of my big mistakes was that I should have bought duchies earlier (3 pile ending was obviously coming), that and too many fishing villages - than again my opponent had no duchies and more fishing villages than me and he won. So ... what do you think were my biggest mistakes?

Both me and my opponent went for grand markets. I lost to his dukes and duchies.
Transitioning to duke/duchy from an engine is different from normal duchy game. How do you know when its time to go for it?

Help! / Scrying pool vs nothing

So in this board there are not allot of good options. The proof is that the game lasted 18 turns with no
attacks. My opponent went for scrying pool but I just went for bm because a) there was embargo which is bad for all potion cards and b) there was no trashing.
My questions are
1. who had the better overall strategy
2. what were my biggest mistakes
3. Whats the best way in general to approach boards with out allot of good options
4. If I had managed to embargo the pools before he got one, would I have won
5.  f I had managed to embargo the pools before he got one, should he have bought one anyway
6. If the answer to q1 is him and the answer to q4 is yes than how should he go about ensuring he can get a pool b4 the embargo

we have a similar situation of nothing good on the board except for scrying pool but going for it doest work because of embargo. whats the difference between the first game and the second?

where was my mistake? I suspect buying a merchant ship instead of a ghost ship for my third terminal might have been the problem. I did it because merchant ship leads to reduced risk of terminal collision which is important when you have 3 terminals.

Hello everyone
Goons games require knowing how many goons to buy, how many +cards to buy, how many villages to buy, how many trashes to buy and how many treasures to buy. This leads me to always kind of feel like i don't know what I'm doing in goons games, and makes it hard for me to figure out what I did wrong when I louse.

in this game: http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201205/29/game-20120529-193739-92180cd9.html my opponent's first 4 buys were silver, silver, gold, silver so I thought - now is as good a time as any to buy a thief. Apparently I was wrong. My thief never hit one of his silvers or golds.
So my question is: In what types of situations is thief a good buy?

in this game my opponent uses Jester to give me curses thus prolonging the game enough for his vineyards to be worth 6 points each. Is this really the right way to go on this board or did he get lucky by hitting my green cards 7 times?
