There's also a chance that they feel different because they are brand-new. Obviously the cards will stand out because they are fresh. I'll find out tonight myself.

I think tiers make more sense (and then you can rank within tiers if you want, which is a diluted "all cards" ranking that maintains the best of both worlds). Tiers, like that thread where everything was ranked A, B, C, D that I can't find right now.

My FLGS (and former employer!) got Empires in today (Chicago). Impromptu date night game night tonight, it seems.

(I mean, just Villa is incredibly intense)

As someone who really prioritizes accessibility, I intentionally played a game using Villa with someone new to Dominion. No issues. If you don't have 5+ years of being trained to think "Dominion works this way" only to then have that broken, it's very easy to learn these new "complex" things from scratch.

I played Empires with people new to Dominion. Very little real-life confusion. 90% of the rules questions/"confusion" you see on f.ds is divorced from reality and what you will actually see when playing (and that goes for all of Dominion, not just Empires).

The game i fell in love with is gone...

Oh no, what happened to your cards? Did someone steal them?

So now I would think that Enchantress doesn't replace anything and just adds +1 card, +1 action to every card's effect. That doesn't seem likely though.

Sure, if you ignore the card and make up your own.

Landmarks: the thing we all thought would be part of Guilds, here at last!

Noble Brigand's card text is really weird now that I think about it. It says do something when it is played, but it was already played by the time that instruction is reached. In theory, you can argue that Noble Brigand does nothing on play because you can't activate the when-played trigger when the card is already in play.

f.ds: where common sense doesn't matter

(I know you're talking about an admittedly weird card situation)

I find it somewhat strange that Gathering cards have their own type (I don't feel like they really need to), while split piles don't have their own type and it seems as though they would benefit much more from this (because you could have a single setup rule instead of having it on each randomizer). Is there any particular reasoning behind this?

Temple has this weird word "Gathering" on the bottom, I should say something there. Well uh. It groups together a few cards that put VP on their piles, and lets another card refer to them (in a "let's not mess this up" way). So that's that.

"or more"?

Quote
Also, the wording about "4 VP or more": as of right now I don't know of a way to get more than 4 VP on the pile, but who knows, maybe it could come up in the future...

What I like the most about Chariot Race is it that it seems like a cantrip VP card should be broken but somehow it isn't.

It may be awkward and confusing on paper (I'd disagree), but I never saw it be a problem in-person.

You're playing an action, that should require an action point to do so. At the same time, you're playing a Treasure, why do you have to spend an action point?

What? You don't have to spend an Action to play Crown in your Buy phase.

Exclusive - I can confirm there will be another bonus preview today as always planned, and that it will be later than yesterday's.  :P
A few questions:
1) Who?
2) When?
3) What's your source?

1) not me
2) later than now
3) a clock

Sorry, don't mean to be a jerk. Actual answer is I'm a playtester. I've tried to not really mention that too much, because I was one of the people a bit miffed last time by a few posts from my now-fellow-playtesters that seemed like they were taking joy in knowing more than others. Perhaps I have now become that which I despise, or maybe I just want to reassure people there will still be another new Dominion card(s) revealed today. And at the end of the day, isn't that fantastic?  ;D

Oh man.  Fairgrounds gets another buff from split piles.  Did somebody mention that when the expansion was announced?  I don't remember, but this is a thing.

I played a lot of Empires + Cornucopia during playtesting for just this reason - that set loves split piles (more variety).

I use parentheses to represent debt. (8)

Crap that doesn't work here.

It can, just disable smilies in your reply (under "Attachments and other options")

I think it was kinda cool that there where no errata. :(

Dominion has, for several years, had errata in all but name. This just marks the first time the word has been used (and put in a physical printed product, I assume?).

But you were accepting it. There wasn't any sort of intractable disagreement?

Correct. But in my small way I was unhappy.

The point is that there's no way to fix a situation where people remember differently.
In practice this just never happens, though. One player says, "But you also gained that other card, remember?" And the other player says, "Oh yeah, I forgot about that!" It's so easy to reach an agreement.

Is it? At the Cincy tournament, I can't speak for the other players, but I got the impression the four of us in the Page game I played were operating with 75% certainty and just accepting it. I certainly was. And that was a tournament situation.

If we're going down the posting-PMs-road, I would just like to remind everyone as they read them that hindsight is always 20/20, and as long as people appear to have been operating in good faith at the time, have a willingness to change their mind/adapt/admit mistakes, there's no need to tear apart any individual communication for not being flawlessly presented.

I like the idea of voting for mods. I'm sure the current mods don't.
Have you even considered asking? I would love to be just a player in the league. None of the work, none of these kinds of threats that I have to respond to, just the playing and enjoyment. Man that sounds great. As soon as I'm convinced somebody else is capable of stepping in and taking over, I'm out. But don't underestimate what is involved, or what is actually required to keep a group of 80 people together that would do nothing rather than quarrel about every last dot in the rules. It certainly does involve responding to threats like this, with people attacking your integrity out of nowhere.

I'll say this much, if we ever voted on league mods I'd vote for Stef unless he asks me not to.
