Dominion: Dark Ages Previews / Re: Nombo of the day: Rats / most things
« on: September 11, 2012, 09:16:09 pm »
I had a fun game the other day where I was Remodelling Rats into Border Villages + Market/Duchy + 1 card.   That was nice.

Basically I think Rats are best when there's something else that can trash them while taking their cost into account (Salvager, Apprentice, Remodel etc).  Their main power seems to be replacing a useless 0-cost card with an almost-useless 4-cost card.

So... ah... how's it looking?  With regards to ever seeing Councilroom up again?....   :-[

That is, is it kaput forever?  Or are things moving forward with some of the people who've suggested they'd like to help?

....I just really miss Councilroom....  :'(

There is nothing more satisfying than Islanding a Province. Nothing.

Though Islanding a Colony comes close.  :-)

I really enjoy both alt-VP and trashing strategies, to the point that I will bend over backwards trying to make that kind of strategy work, even if there are other, clearly more favourable options.

So obviously my favourite card is Bishop.  It does both!  The first time I bought a Peddler for $0 and then trashed it for 5VP, ah, that was sweet nectar.  Mmmm....

Also, if there's even a remote chance to make Tunnel work, I will grab Tunnels.  After all, the longer the odds to make it pay out, the more satisfying when it does... or if there's a way to cash them a preposterous number of times (i.e. Golem with only one unspent Action card), that's fun too.  There was a game where the only discarding option was Farming Village, so of course I had to open Tunnel/Farming Village. It worked on the third run through the deck... so happy! :-)

Rats + Vineyard =  :o

I'm imagining a game where on your last run through your deck, you embark on some mammoth KC-Rats rampage, replacing all money, potions, etc with Rats so as to heavily cash in on Vineyards.  Along the way you play some +Buy cards and at the end of this crazy turn, clear out the Ruins pile (since you have no money left).

"But wait!" your flabbergasted opponent might say.  "What if the Rats devour your Vineyards?  Who will keep them safe?"

"Why, the most crucial, lynchpin card of all," you reply with a knowing wink. "The Scout."

12
Unless I'm missing something... is there any practical difference between trashing a Madman and returning it to the pile? Because there are only 10 Hermits, you can only ever get 10 Madmen...

Can't Graverobber bring back Hermits?

Looks that way.  But returning Madmen to the pile (instead of trashing it) would mean you couldn't then Graverobber a Madman.

About an hour left!

Also, I'm thinking that if these cards are any indication, there are going to be a lot of cards that specify exact costs or ranges of costs, which is going to make Highway a lot more powerful and a lot more relevant and a lot more strategic.
Still all the Alchemy cards sit crying in their little corner.
That's a funny mental image with Golem.

BTW, could we amend the name of this thread to list the 3 cards (and continue going forward)?  After a few threads I'll probably forget which cards are in which.

I think that "Holdfast" one will be called Keep.

Keep
$5
Action
If you have one or more Keeps in play at the start of your Clean-up phase, then put the 5 cards you draw for your next hand onto the Keep mat.  While there, they are safe from any attacks.  Draw them into your hand at the start of your next turn.
All that is is a really REALLY REALLY cheesy Moat.

Mmmmm... moat full of cheese...

Okay, this is why I shouldn't come up with card ideas when I'm really sleepy.  My awake self would have thought of that.   :-\

My best is only 49; of course, now that there's an achievement badge, I may try harder! :-)

How do we give it a picture?  (or does everyone else already see a picture for their Vitner badges?)

I played 3 games Sunday that haven't shown up in Councilroom yet... is this a continuation of the same problem?

 :(

I want to put in a vote for pro-logs.  Especially after a particularly epic match... win or lose... I really enjoy being able to go back and review the game turn-by-turn, either in a "where-did-things-go-wrong" way, or just "ah, that was a really good game" way.

Will we have stats?  Win/loss records?  And more crucially... achievement badges?!??  I NEED those badges!!  YOU HAVE TO SHOW ME THOSE STINKIN' BADGES!!*

*shout-out to the classic film "The Treasure Map of the Sierra Minion"

THAT'S IT! EVERYBODY DIES!
Action - $15
Trash all cards in play, in the supply, in players' decks, and in players' hands.

Then add up VP hidden in Islands and/or Native Villages with any VP chips collected to see who wins!  Could be fun.  :P

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Base Cards Promo Card?
« on: June 05, 2012, 11:42:36 am »
Let me know if the expansions are worth it for Alhambra I have the base set didn't know if the expansions would be worth it. Also I could be wrong about the card being limited print run but my information is coming from here

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/784112/dominion-base-cards/page/1

The first post is from Jay

BGG is blocked where I am (generic forums are not). Would it be an imposition if I asked you to post the relevant quote?

The promo card must have been the item that was delaying the release of the box. I opened up my Base Cards and found just that. There were no extra cards in there.

I've only played the base game of Alhambra. I am intrigued by the expansions. I bought the big box because RGG was selling it for $35. Definitely some good deals at the RGG booth (on Sunday, they knocked Dominion boxes down to very tasty levels).

Fun aside: The RGG booth only took cash. I paid for my Alhambra big box and walked out with it. No sack for such a large product. We stopped by Queen's Games to look at the layout for Kingdom Builder (no demo at the time). After oohing and aahing over it, we walked on by. A woman from Queen's Games followed us and asked us if we wanted to pay for that. I had to explain that we bought Alhambra from RGG. It was then that I realized Alhambra is not actually a RGG product. She was skeptical at first, but I guess she could tell I was telling the truth. Still, that could have been awkward, especially since I didn't even worry about getting a receipt from RGG.

Guess she thought your RGG was actually IGG.   :o

Enjoy?  What sort of crazy person enjoys Dominion?

:p

To paraphrase Rorschach, "we do it because we are compelled."

25
Love the card---the only change I'd make would be to put it in the Prosperity set.   8)

(and once you've played it, the 100VP are in the bank, right?  You could still Bishop it for a total of "half-of-infinity-plus-100" VP, couldn't you?)
