Well there's no thrashing mechanic in Dominion. I'm going to assume you mean trashing.

So while possessing, everything that happens, happens to the player being possessed. The only exception is that when he gains a card it goes into your discard pile, and after his turn is done any cards that were trashed go back into his discard. So if you possess someone and trash a cultist, he gets the +3 cards, which is ok since you are still possessing him. If he gains a madman for example, you gain it instead.

Ok, sorry for the misplaced 'h'.

All I wanted to show is that 10 madman cards are not enough. There are situations where you may need more than 10 simultaneously.

Just debugging ;)

Dominion: Dark Ages Previews / What about thrashing and possessed hands?
« on: August 09, 2012, 11:33:12 am »
Maybe a noob question:

As we know, the cards thrashed while playing a possessed hand returns at the end of the possessed hand in the possessed player's discard pile.
Do the "on thrash" benefits apply? What happens if I use the "no buy" property of the hermit while possessing a player, do I have to take the madman? We may need more than 10 madman cards...

I've gone to a couple Meetup-organized game nights. You won't always find other Dominion players there, but you will get plenty of opportunities to try different board and card games. Good way to try games before you buy. At one of them, there was a guy who had designed his own card game that was a little like Dominion, and it was fun because everyone playing was able to provide input and test out new rules as we were playing.

Are you Italian? I organize periodically in Milan tournaments at my apartment ;)

Central Europe:  This seems to be a tough decision, but the math backs it up.  Fabian, Tonks77, and Lekkit each beat StickaRicka 5-2.  Ugasoft and Tonks beat AngBoy 5-2 and 4-3, respectively.  Essentially, Tonks loses 18 points to DQs, and everyone else near the top loses 10, leaving Fabian on top.

I'm sorry I missed the deadline... I've played all matches as soon as the games were out... 10 days ago I had to travel to US... and now it's too late.

I knew the odds of overtaking Fabian were too few, but I would have been able to try :(

I hope to be able to play against StickaRicka this saturday or sunday.

I'm sorry for not being available last 2 weeks, I had to travel to Silicon Valley for a job interview and just returned with a lot of procastinated work to do before this friday night...

Is it ok?

Kirian, I beg you to update challonge for Central Europe Division... I want to see my name in top (temporary) position, before Fabian plays :)

I need a new desktop wallpaper ^_^

Just photoshop that "6" into a "5" and it'll make a fine wallpaper ;)

eheh, no, no cheat allowed :)

Anyway neither the math can help me: if you score less-or-equal than 3 points (ROFL), then Tonks77 will score greater-or-equal than 11 overtaking me... I'm doomed :P

GokoDom / Re: M's Bracket - Week 4??
« on: April 16, 2012, 02:36:38 pm »
Just finished my games with ugasoft. 4-3 in my favour.

36-34 http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201204/16/game-20120416-060901-754a319f.html Philosopher's stone is a weakness of mine. However, it turned out ok for me, even though I had to break PPR.
20-32 http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201204/16/game-20120416-061540-5e6aaad3.html I get off to a slow start and it all just goes downhill from there.
37-18 http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201204/16/game-20120416-062056-8bf0504a.html ugasoft goes for Double Jack. I go for some crazy HP/Alchemist/Possession deck that ends out on top. Really fast game.
11-49 http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201204/16/game-20120416-063451-ba70d97e.html I get outplayed in a Masquerade/Possession game.
63-47 http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201204/16/game-20120416-064824-962b73db.html Another slow Possession game. This time with Scrying Pool. ugasoft had some really bad luck with his draws in this game. I'm not really sure it was game-deciding, but it could well be.
28-37 http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201204/16/game-20120416-065852-65c46a62.html I get outplayed in yet another Possession game.
22-5 http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201204/16/game-20120416-071000-8d85344a.html A weird game where I go for more Lookouts than I usually do. I end up winning without a single green card with the help of a single Goons doing their stuff.

Thanks, ugasoft, for the games! Good luck in the rest of the challenge and I hope to play you again some time! :)

@Fabian: Do you feel prosperous? I sure do! Bring it on!

Thank you Lekkit, i cannot say that those were good games because I truly hate alchemy... really, I usually veto alchemy cards and I utterly cannot understand why a card like Possession was ever designed and approved for publishing!

After all, 4-3 was not too bad for me, I'm still fighting for the top positions (not the first one) of the division :)

In depth analysis: two games I think he played (really really) better than me. two games I think I've played (a little bit) better than Lekkit, three games was decided by luck.

I have lost luck fight (double jack vs possession... I still cannot believe I've lost it!), but in the games he undoubtedly dominated me I've seen a "skill difference" that reflects our ranking difference ;)

In my (poor) defence I can say I consider myself really a noob with Alchemy cards, sometimes I started the game with no strategy at all ^_^

I hope to play with you again, Lekkit, but in a "normal" match!

Lekkit and I finally played our games.
I was able to take 5 games, so the final score is JanErik 10 - 4 Lekkit.

This should be current classification of our division:

24 Fabian
24 JanErik
23 ugasoft
23 StickaRicka
22 Lekkit
21 Tonks77
17 angboy
14 ArjanB

6 players in 3 points... good luck to everyone :)

Wow, how many comments.

@Fabian, I "don't take any offense to the discussion", don't warry, there's no reason for me to feel bad!

I reviewed our matches and I think yes, game 3 was ridicolous. My strategy was inferior and I was expecting to lose... your swindler hit my estates, my golds (replacing with gold), my curses (repacing with curses)... two times you played mounterbank and I had a curse to discard.... and at the end you had best accidental PPR violation ever! I may say I had 4 provinces and a slim deck, so the odds was high to hit a province, but I was truly lucky.

Reviewing other matches I think I played well and in almost any match our strategies were both good. I think I missed the garden match. I'm noob with garden, and I was not able to split them at least 5-3... While I think that the Pirate Ship and the Jack matches my strategies were strong, and luck was not essential.

In the jack matches I was thinking about going asap to the second Jack, but I'm addicted with Ambassador... and there were sources for +action (Mining Village). With no +action card, I don't know if I had changed my strategy...

In the pirate match, I think that with all that enablers (native, inn, bazaar, upgrade) it was the right strategy. If I didn't hit your "big money" but coppers, I would have reached high pirates value in the same way. Only thing that let me think about going in depth with multipirates was the absence of +buys...

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201204/05/game-20120405-233753-2e36a0b7.html

I'm (well, I was) 12-1 or 13-1 in tournament matches lifetime I believe, and proceeded to "lose 4-0" (if this was regular best of 7 format) in what felt like 10 minutes to what I believe is the lowest (second lowest?) ranked tournament opponent I've played. That was.. humbling.

If I was a sore loser I would complain like a crazy person about pretty much every game, but I'm not, so I won't :) Nice playing you ugsaoft, good luck in the rest.

It was a pleasure for me to play against one of the greatest Dominion player on Iso.
I still cannot believe I won.
I'm sorry for Fabian, which is, in my opinion, still the favorite of our bracket.
Probably with these 10 points I'll do nothing, but this was my best match so far and I'm proud of my playing!
I may have been lucky in a couple of matches, but in game 5 with tactician in play and several goons and KC in deck I got closer to another win, I missed 2 buys (a single KC in 10 cards...). But it's obviously lame and a "troll attempt" to complain with the luck in that match!!

I wish Fabien good luck for the rest of the tournament!

p.s. letting only first player of each bracket passing to next turn is too luck-dependent in my opinion... A single "wrong day" can kill a strong player...
Would be better to let best 2 pass the round, so we'd have 8 players in Mustard and 8 in Kirian. With another two 8-player divisions we could select final four... Is it too late to propose such a change? :)

Dominion Isotropic / Re: Level 6s pulling 4 provinces in 13 turns
« on: January 27, 2012, 04:31:00 am »
The level is a lot higher now. It's not just good players with dummy accounts. These forums might even have something to do with it.
Yeah. I've had LOTS of people I don't recognize/haven't heard of wishing me luck in the tournament as I played games against them today...
Ditto that.
Lol. Hi :P I was one of the level 0s playing really well recently. Just climbed up to level 17. Also, thanks for the games WW and RJ. Good luck in the tournament to you both ;)

It's a competition? :D
Ok, I joined isotropic because I've heard about a "big dominon tournament" on Theory Blog (which I was following).
I was playing a lot with friends both in real life and on BretSpielWelt (now I usually can't play with my friends because I always win -.-'')
I registered on isotropic and just played 3-4 matches in order to understand how the interface works... I was not trying to play good, just asking to people how to use the interface, and obviously I lost all games, no problems.
I registered to the big tournament that is going to end now and I discovered that the initial seed depends of ranking... 6.952... LOL!!
My first (and unique) turn was against a 40 level player (nomnomnom) and I was beaten 4-1 (let's say 2 matches he won was well fighted and with better luck I could have been 3-2 for him or, with good luck 3-2 for me)
I started to play a lot and now I'm level 27, ascending every day, skill 36.309. In that tournament I will be ranked today 46, giving me 2 "virtually easy" turns.

It was fun, when I was low-level, to fight against some mid level players that don't expect I'm underrated... and now I usually don't play against player who are not in +-10 or 15 levels from me (except great, over 40 players... yesterday I had the honor of losing a game against WanderingWinder while watching one of his great videos ^_^)

My next goal is level 30 and, obviously, next big tournament!

Dominion General Discussion / Re: News on forthcoming expansions
« on: January 27, 2012, 04:06:29 am »
Donald, how many of the Provinces, Estates and Curses will there be? Enough for 5 or 6 players? Now that I'm thinking of it, are you supposed to have more than 12 Colonies if you play Prosperity with 5 or 6 players?
The base cards product only supports 2-4 players. Obv. you can add it to Dominion or Intrigue to support 5-6. Supporting 4 players took 249 cards, and these numbers have to be round; we did not think most people would be thrilled paying for more cards they didn't need.

The Prosperity rulebook indicates that you have 12 Colonies for 3 or more players. That includes 5-6 players.

Thank you Donald for your explanations.

My "problem" here is that I usually run "mid-size" tournaments in my house. I had all expansions on the market so far and I hat to play in more than 3 players (ok, I hate 3-players matches too).

My current setup, listed [num_players ___ comma separated players in each table, starting from "main table"]
3 (3)
4 (2,2)
5 (2,3)
6 (3,3 or 2,2,2 it depends how many noobs are in the tournament)
7 (2,2,3)
8 (2,3,3)
9 (3,3,3)
10+ sorry guys, it's impossible, too few cards :(

Problems:
- I can share low treasures (coppers, silvers and golds) among tables, relaxing the rule of empty piles over these piles (ok, with hinterlands traders and tunnel I may have some problems, not yet played in tournaments)
- I try to share Potions, I usually look at the kingdom cards and I give some potions here and there, if some table is running out of potions, I'll move froma table to another, or, in worst case, I use white cards
- I go somewhat crazy with low green cards... I had to produce for 3 tables 12 duchys, 12 provinces, something like 24 estates... I've printed them on papers and put the printed&cut cards in the sleeves of some unused kingdom card (imagine the setup of a tournament turn! I becoem skilled at it)
- I go utterly crazy with Colonies and Platinums... And we all love Colony Game

Conclusions:
- I can afford (and I will) another copy of the Base Dominion, but I don't want another Prosperity.
- I hope the "yet-to-come" Basic-Card-With-Art Expansion will contain more than 12 colony-platinum

Thank you for your time!

Game Reports / Re: Uber Tactician Pattern

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201201/20/game-20120120-201529-c3a5402c.html

Skip down to about turns 11-13 for buying and playing all 10 Tacticians in 1 turn. I tried to empty out all of the piles at the end but should not have KC'd that second Bridge, which prevented me from using Haggler on Gold buys. Ultimately I didn't manage to touch the Coppers or the Curses.

great... You won. :)

Game Reports / Re: Uber Tactician Pattern

Wow, 44 turns, that is fast!
No, seriously, I know that's not your point. It's a fun thing to play around with, there already was a puzzle asking for how to play multiple tacticians a turn.
If I looked it up correctly, you got your first multiple tactician at turn 25, so even with all this support, it took you quite some time.
One could try it further and optimize how fast and reliably it can be done. Maybe watchtower instead of library for the topdecking, or throw in some schemes, or other things.

yes yes obviously I was not going for speed but... just wandering how I could do.
My "engine" requires lot of luck, in order to get tactician+library with the golem (a cartographer/scout/apotecary can help this... ).
Maybe buying more "big drawer" helps more (watchtower, Jack)
Maybe throne room/king's court can help more (golem--> tactician+KC, I can play the KC before and play other golems I've in hand before the tactician hits...)

But it's obviously more a puzzle than a Game Report, so I should have posted it in the appropriate section, sorry :)
