We talked about this after the game. Lespuetere thought it went too smooth, I replied that generally when I make a plan and it works the way I want it to I tend to assume it's the plan and not blame shuffle luck.
(Other than misclicking to trash fg instead of gold on turn 13)
I thought the worst that could go wrong was getting one turn of 2 estates 2 islands copper, which is also not bad. Put away estate island.

I won somehow but I wasn't sure what to do for most of it. I got spammed back with 2 ambs and crap after I bought possession and threw away mine, then he had the good luck (or I had the bad) to possess me on amb turns. I was hoping to expand away the ambs but never got the chance. I thought his buy of salvager was stupid but couldn't possess any of his good turns. No amb with green or salv with green. I did get a possession and a sab off him but didn't really need it or want it. Just denial. I went for duke duchy even though it was longer because I was sure of getting 5s. Did I play this right?

I figured that between scrying pool, golem and crossroads green wasn't that bad for me. So as long as I minimally returned copper I should be good. I didn't get a second amb, and kept most of the estates he gave me as well as buying some harems. By turn 15 I was up 30 to nothing and he had a very clean deck and started spamming curses. My last turn golem crapped out on me. I needed one action and it only hit crossroads. Which gave me pretty good draw but left me unable to play my second horse traders or either monument. I had 16potion and ended it conservatively on piles. What I want to know is how likely is it that he would have won had I bought 2 provs instead of harem curse? scrying pool pile was out, there was one curse, one harem and 2 crossroads so piling out the next turn or the turn after would still have been likely.

And any comments? We both played a develop game. I think his fairly late mandarin was a mistake, he should have bought duchy to develop.

I ended up winning but it was pure luck on hitting kc yw twice when his missed and then hitting one megaturn before he did.
Weird set of cards and crappy shuffle luck most of the game. (for both of us)

With his double lookout, it didn't seem to make sense to go the usual gold-silver route. Why give him free silver when that will help him more than trashing would? With a very slim deck I was able to rush provs before his engine kicked into gear. Originally, I got seahag just as something to trash estate to, with the plan of using his gov or mine to upgrade it to gov/gold, but it ended up coming in handy too.

I didn't play the moat turn 3 because I was pretty sure it would draw apprentice, then jkhokst got a pretty big lead and started rushing provinces. I ended up winning but I'm sure there was a better way to play this.

Develop is a great card, both misused and underrated. It's a mediocre to poor trasher in the early game, not all that useful when there are better trashers, like remake or chapel. I won't talk much about it's trashing abilities except to say that if there's any better trasher don't buy it. But, it has two great abilities. One: it topdecks. Two: It gives you two cards for one. While getting a silver or fishing village topdecked may be no big deal, in games with a nice mix of 4-2 6-4 or 7-5 cards (which are most of them) it very often pays to invest in one early, with an eye on the midgame. In other games, it pays to buy one later on. Although it's not very good in straight big money boards, the things you should be looking at when you see develop are: actions vs. terminals i.e. can I afford another action in my deck? The lower end cards: like, if I develop a silver will I be stuck with an estate I'll need to get rid of? Deck size. Do I need/want more cards in my deck? Can I afford to topdeck whatever combo it is? And what combos are there? I'll list just a few of the possibilities. Develop a gold to kc-any 5 card. (ghost ship, governor, torturer etc.) develop a 5 card to grand market conspirator. develop a silver to baron estate, potion-secret chamber/embargo/ lighthouse in scrying pool or university games or crossroads silk road.  develop a province to platinum bank/forge/kc.
If there are good possibilities, and your deck can afford the topdecking, which is not always the case (sure it's nice to develop something to duchy but if you get it on top next turn you probably won't have enough for the last prov) then the early trashing is an added bonus.
It's a shame councilroom is down, I had a lot of nice develop games there, but if you search my name and develop you can find some here too.

Ycz6 had a much better deck in the early game, and by turn 12 I was almost sure I'd lost. I think his embargoing the labs was a mistake, another one or two probably would have won him the game before I got set up. Then I dragged it out long enough to win on vp.

I got off to a bad start with crappy early draws. Had my opponent not bought a duchy the second to last turn I couldn't have smuggled two, and would have lost. That's something that doesn't happen often.

But with a five start I figured I'd lose the curse race. And with decent trashing and decent draw, I decided to ignore them. It worked, but did I play this well, or was he making mistakes too?

There were really no great cards here, and bm seemed the way to go. Kc seemed almost worthless, since by the time I got enough money to kc pirate ship he should have hit a couple of provs. But I suffer from FPS (thank you Captain Frisk) and uni-watchtower, oracle pirate ship totally emptied his deck.By turn 14 I had a pirate ship worth nine and he had no coins left.

I got off to a bad start, tac may not have been the right first buy. I also got lucky sabbing his posessions. Otoh, Vive probably shouldn't have started greening so early, and probably shouldn't have played my outposts. I'm still not sure how I should have played this, or why I won.
