Is it possible to hack the extension so your opponent cannot see score?  My opponent says he was playing on an iPad, could that be it?

If your opponent was on an iPad, how could he tell you anything? Last I checked, chat doesn't work on the iPad.

He told me in the lobby chat after the game

I have a couple questions about the chrome extension:

I just installed it today, and I couldn't get the #vp? to work even though my opponent had it #vpon enabled.  There was no where I could see what the current score was.  Where would I see the score with the extension enabled?

Followup - the next game I played, I could see my score.

Is it possible to hack the extension so your opponent cannot see score?  My opponent says he was playing on an iPad, could that be it?

Additional Followup - the 3rd game I played had the same problem - #vp? returns nothing and the victory point tracker does not show in the upper right corner.  I think it happens when I am the one enabling victory points, but I'm joining the tables.

I wouldn't be surprised if Isotropic Dominion carries on as the primary playtesting system for new dominion development.  The fact that Guilds has been implemented in Isotropic suggests that they are using it for playtesting.  So, if you really like isotropic, try to get to be a playtester!

Yes, I'm referring to the Star Wars CCG released by Decipher.  Lord of the Rings TCG was also what I was referring to.  I have not played SWCCG since 2006, the game just got too big in scope for me to keep up with.  I still visit the PC forums though, as "Nitsuj"

I find that dominion is a very popular game amongst the SWCCG crowd.  In fact, there are a lot of isotropic players that are still current SWCCG players - its cool to run into them in the lobby.

You can play LOTR online now, it looks pretty slick, and may fill the hole I'm gaining with Isotropic's pending shut-down.

Depending on the pricing structure for the online system - will it be a monthly cost?  Or will it be a one time cost, I cannot say that I'll come on board for the online system or not.  A one-time cost, I'd strongly consider it - a recurring monthly cost - no way.

This makes for a danger for Dominion in my life, in general - because I have all the cards other than Cornucopia and the Promos.  And a big reason I bought the recent cards is because of seeing them on isotropic.  But as far as dominion hitting the game table - its chances are limited.  This is for a few reasons:

1)  Simple storage solution - Unless I can take the game with me places - it won't get played.  I've managed to squeeze everything into one box - so this problem is solved, but there is no way I can squeeze in another expansion.
2)  It is a chore to setup, once you are spoiled with Isotropic, digging out a random set of kingdom cards is a pain.  It is something I think about while I'm putting my games into my game bag for an upcoming gaming opportunity.
3)  It is a game that my more serious gamer friends, fellow SWCCG and LOTRCCG veterans, are discouraged to play against me, because I have so much more experience playing it thanks to isotropic.  They would rather play other games where the playing field is more level (like Seven Wonders or Puerto Rico).  Dominion mostly hits my game table at family functions with my brother-in-laws, but even then it is competing against games like Stone Age, Power Grid, or Agricola.

So, for these reasons, and pending closure of Isotropic for a pay site - I could see myself leaving Dominion altogether.

I'm curious whats going to come out of all this, I've been keeping my eye on these forums just to catch a whiff of what is coming.  Lack of answers is frustrating, but I understand why things need to be close to the chest.

With Monument, isn't it theoretically possible to score infinite points in a solitaire game?

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Cards That Combo With Tunnel Reaction
« on: October 24, 2011, 10:52:51 am »
I've combo'd Minion and Tunnels like 2 time so far, and once with Oasis/Inn.  I really liked it early, and was cruising with what felt like a gazillion gold pretty quick, but can see how it clogs up a bit. However, clogged up with 8 to 10 VP is a nice spot to be in, because now you realistically have to get 3 provinces to have a good chance to win - or your opponent clogs their deck up and its a non-issue.

I don't think its awful, but the one game my opponent used MINT and was getting just as many golds but was able to use the one in his hand, unlike me who had to play a 4 card hand (essentially) to get a gold for the future.  With that epiphany I decided that tunnel isn't really great.

Every once in a while I think about trying isotropic again, then I get an email about a new post in this topic and remember why I swore it off.  It's unfortunate...
That's silly.

Maybe 2% of games I've played on isotropic have involved any sort of problem like the stuff in this thread.

I'd say that even 2% is a gross over-estimate for how often this sort of stuff happens.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Kings Court + Possession
« on: July 28, 2011, 10:36:52 am »
Blooki is right, but one more thing that is overlooked in counter-Possession decks is whether there are cards that a Possessor can use more effectively than the deck's owner. An example would trash-for-benefit cards like Salvager or Apprentince; a Possessor has every reason to "trash" a Province/Colony in order to get lots of additional cards/money, while the deck's owner will not want to do so except under extremely limited circumstances. So, if you are playing against Possession, you also need to be aware of those cards and avoid them unless you know what you are doing.

I love trashers in my possession deck (other than Salvager).  I'll trash out my treasure after getting a couple possessions in my deck, and then rely on possessing opponent to get my green cards.  When possessing opponent, I'll take any green card I can get, because once you get up on possession, at that point you just want to make your deck so awful that their possession gets them nothing.  Salvager does break this though, because opponent can salvage a colony and then buy a colony.  But just about any other trasher is good to go with this strategy.

A lot of times I'll see the opponent continue to buy good treasures/actions in this situation and then complain about how possession is a stupid card and I just got lucky that I got one and they had good hands.  To which I say "Good game!" and head back to the lobby.

Nuts, its back.  The guy I was playing with during lunch, got back in and is waiting for me to take my turn, but I cannot get back in because there are too many players on the server.

I was really surprised by just how many people I saw in the lobby.  I think the server just had to to give up, too many users.

I often refuse multiple games but only because a certain opponent refused one with me first. If you don't want to play random with me, you don't want to play with me at all. That's how I see it.

Someone today informed me that they "normally win" and that I'm a "lucky boy."  They were also a Level 1 player who happened to be about 120 games below .500.  I think the best policy, as I wrote in a long paragraph earlier in this thread, is: ignore them.  Some of it is thoroughly juvenile and rancorous, but...who cares in the end?  They obviously have flaws in their game and they're making up for it in a pitiful way.  It won't change the outcome.  Everyone I've played on isotropic who also posts on this forum is extremely civil and a pleasure to compete with, mainly because the people on this forum tend to have very solid games of some degree, and don't need to resort to personal attacks.

Also, I'd vote against posting the actual screen names of the people who have offended you on here...

I bumped into that guy once!  Exact same thing happened, then I went to CouncilRoom.com and saw that he wasn't just a Level 1 player who was just starting - he was a Level 1 player with an atrocious record.  It was at that point that I didn't give him any more thought.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Pearl Diver
« on: July 08, 2011, 02:10:50 pm »
I would never buy a pearl diver just for the sake of buying a pearl diver.  but if I only have 2 treasure and there are no other good "2" buys early in the game, I'll definitely buy it.  And even if I only end up moving 1 or 2 cards to the top during the entire game, that's ok.  It was technically better than not moving anything at all.

As far as 2 buys go, they cannot all be chapels, pawns, lighthouses, or hamlets.

I like Contraband on boards with Platinum, Grand Market, and/or Hoard.  But I generally agree that I stay away from that card otherwise, it can be an albatross at the end of the game.

« on: July 06, 2011, 08:47:13 am »
I played a game yesterday where Transmute was on the table with Chapel.  Inspired by this thread, I decided to make a go at running Transmute...

I bought Chapel/Potion.  Got a Transmute and chapeled all my coppers.  Transmuted my Estates into Gold, and Transmuted my Chapel into a Duchy (which then got transmuted into a Gold).

I had remarkable luck on the early draws, able to trash 4 copper on turn 3, and then 3 copper on turn 5 I think it was.  My deck was super thin, I put a Ghost Ship in it just because I figured i would see it every turn.

In the end, I don't think this is a very good strategy - it really tapered off a the end, I just couldn't finish the game.  Given my remarkable early luck, and I was slowing down the opponent with Ghost Ships, this game still came down to the last province.

Notice how similar our decks are at the end of the game, but we took completely different routes getting there.

I know I'm just one voice of many, and I love isotropic online dominion, and I own all the physical cards, so I don't feel guilty about playing online for free, in my mind its just a different way to enjoy the game that I've already paid for, and since I cannot play online and IRL at the same time, I feel that this is justified.

If I can play online dominion for a one-time cost - or even just purchase each expansion for a one time cost and then only be able to play other people who have also bought that expansion (or as long as one player at the virtual table has bought the exansion) - I'd sign up.

But, if it is a monthly fee (and I believe it would have to be a re-occuring cost, since the cost of maintaining and running the servers would be ongoing for the developer and unless they can keep new players coming on board to cover those costs they would likely run into financial trouble) - I doubt I would play online dominion.

And with as many board games out there, my dominion playing time in general (even IRL) would probably drop significantly - which endangers the likelyhood of me purchasing future physical expansions.

I'm not sure how you guys even have time to get a "GG" in.  A lot of players I play with just bail from the game almost immediately.

I try to type out my messages, instead of using the abbreviations - especially the initial greeting and a "good game" or "close one!" or a "thanks for the game" depending on if it was indeed a good game, indeed a close one, or indeed a blowout where they took a lot of punches but carried on to the end.

But usually, while I'm typing - they are going back to the lobby!  So, I hope they don't think I'm rude and ignoring them!

Yesterday, I did my typical greeting "Good luck, have fun" - and proceeded to play against someone and got a lucky "Possession" early, and proceeded to dominate him with it.  Everytime I possessed him, he had his possession in hand!  So, then he started chatting in a foreign language (I think it was Italian) and eventually quit.  I have no idea what he was saying, and BabelFish wasn't much good for translating it.

Smugglers - no doubt, I hate this card the most.  I hate buying it because I'm a glass half empty guy - "my opponent will always buy something lousy when I have this card in my hand."  Then I'm a glass half empty guy x 2, because "I don't want to buy this card because my opponent will smuggle it"

Last game this card came up - Grand Market was in play and my opponent smuggled 3 of them in one game!
