or a Mariners World Series.

And never, ever will... At least not with Ken Griffey Jr., which was all that I ever really wanted.

So, umm, Harbinger?

Keep the art, just use Portent or Augury as the name is my suggestion. But I suppose the designer might want a final say.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Dominion and Intrigue second editions

As for Intrigue, Patrol is quite the Scout buff. It seems kind of strong actually. Also, I'm surprised get another Smithy variant since Envoy was removed for that reason.

Envoy's not from Intrigue, it wasn't removed from anything.

I think he meant Envoy was removed from Intrigue before the first edition was published.

Quote from: Intrigue Secret History
- Envoy left the set and then became a promo. I am kind of embarassed by it - it left this set because it didn't add enough to the game, and then it became a promo and well that's still an issue, right? It does at least have the merit there of not making people feel as much like they have to have it. But the thing is, we found out we needed the promo the same day it was needed. There was no time to test a new card, and Envoy was one of a small number of cards that had actually had some external playtesting (other than the cards in the set, which I didn't want to give up). And I do like the card; it totally could have made a later expansion, providing some card-drawing for that expansion and a new experience, if not new decks. They can't all be Gardens. It's just sad to have this early on because each card matters more now; with just the main set you only have 25 cards and this one does not carve out much new territory. Anyway I suggested it for the promo and it escaped to promo-land and so much for that. Over time it will matter less that it doesn't add so much.

Love that the new card art has more females represented!

All of this, this whole process, getting rid of cards players don't like, changing confusing rules, adding new cards, adding females to the card art, using input from members of this forum. It all just shows a great level of dedication and quality from Donald and Rio Grande Games. Being listen to the buying audience shouldn't be a rarity in today's world, but it is. A company that can listen deserves to be praised. Plainly put, it is just awesome! So thanks!

General Discussion / Re: Fun Recipes

Going into my bookmarks for these:

Risotto of any kind is going to be good - it does involve cooking wine, but all the alcohol cooks out: http://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1013639-fresh-fava-bean-and-shrimp-risotto

Risotto can be bought at any store, it will be with the rice. It is a little bit extra, but not that much more expensive. Fava beans can be hard to come by, but you can sub in any green veggie like asparagus, just probably cook for a little bit longer.

Lamb is my favorite meat. We don't eat it a lot as we don't eat a lot of meat, but when we do, this is the recipe. It is amazing: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/irish-lamb-stew/?scale=6&ismetric=0

You can generally get a good cut of lamb from a neighborhood butcher for pretty cheap. I like this receipe because it uses the meat sparingly.

Find a good gumbo or jambalaya recipe and you will be happy. Some of the spices might be hard to find for some recipes, but I think any major grocery store will have most of them.

and some good side veggie dishes:
http://www.stltoday.com/lifestyles/food-and-cooking/recipes/peanut-garlic-green-beans/article_30c2c41e-6f99-581d-93a0-866d0f34f207.html

Easy side recipe.

The only way I eat Brussel Sprouts, from the famous Copper Onion restraunt in SLC: https://www.yelp.com/menu/the-copper-onion-salt-lake-city/item/brussels-sprouts

Really easy and really good side. We make it every year for thanksgiving.

I love the first, but do you have the artist's name?

A Google Image search shows that it is a painting by Nikolaos Gyzis.

I have to think that it was Arya who killed Lord Frey is reason enough to show that Lady Stoneheart won't be showing up. Because I have to think in the books that it will be the Band of Brothers that gets that job done in a revenge version of the Red Wedding. It there was a time in the story to introduce Lady Stoneheart that was the moment and since it didn't happen then, I highly doubt it will ever happen.

Plus author confirmation helps to make it even more unlikely.

Irony: "Fuck everyone who isn't us." -- Jaime Lannister to Cersei.

Shower-thought that was probably immediately obvious to everyone, but that I just realized.

Cersei did exactly what Jaime wanted to prevent by killing the Mad King.

#365 - Fairgrounds

Overall we felt that this image did not remotely capture what you would expect for Fairgrounds.

This is a travesty!

The card art is perfect. Because it reflects the end of a fairgrounds. All the food has been eaten. The games have been played. The rides are coming down. It is the end of autumn and all that is left is the cruel, horrible winter ahead. Sadness, despair, grief. Until next spring.

Just like when you play a game of Dominion. Fairgrounds are fun because you want to buy lots of Action cards, + cards, + buy, gainers, trashers, + $, Attacks, Interactions. But once you actually get to the point of buying Fairgrounds all that you have left is the cruel greening slowly turning into the end of the game. Sadness, despair, grief. Until the next game starts.

This card should be on the flip side. If the highest score given was 379. I would give it around a 365.

#368 - Minion

The picture on the wall is not very flattering to whoever it is, presumably the ruler.

i always thought the Minion picture guy was the Duke and as a result liked the Minion art more because of the cross over, but now that I compare them side by side I am not so sure anymore.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll certainly take a look at your cards at some point.

Scaffolding:
Seems a bit niche. The fact that it's 'exact' 2 more makes it cool. I am bit uncertain about the latter part. Would you ever (I don't know) trash a market for a 3 and 2 card or whatever?

Looks like I need to rewrite this. The text is meant to say that you can trash a card and then gain two differently named cards of the same value as the card as trashed (I don't know why I didn't just say it this way. But probably should still try to clean it up a bit). For example. Trash a Market and gain a Laboratory and a Library.

Trout Stream: Haha. I'd actually consider making it worth 4 VP, to be honest.

Original version was actually at 4 VP, but I changed it when I typed this up. Both could probably be worth a try? Mostly I didn't like that you could gain more in VP than a Province if you gained a Trout Stream and a Duchy. But I guess it would end up only being a net of +3 VP cause during most times that you would gain a Duchy opponents would as well. So maybe I like 4 VP afterall.

Hangman, man, that's a cheap looter. I am not sure about that. And it's a card that is only negative for our opponent (like sea hag). I tend to not like those kind of cards. Here is a small suggestion.
Quote
$2 Action-Attack-Looter - Hangman
+1 Action
Trash this.
Reveal your hand, if your hand has an Action card, each other player gains a Ruin. If you do not, you gain a ruin and a spoil.
_________
When you gain this, gain a Ruin and a Spoil.

I like this rendition quite a bit.

Bandit: 'your opponent' => what if there are multiple opponents? Also: if it's an attack, it can be moated. What happens then? Does nobody gain anything or do you gain a copper?

Should be opponents. So each opponent would be a different interaction, so potential to gain as many coppers as there are other opponents. Which would then strenghten your attack for the next player. Ugh. And you are right about the moat part. Probably need to scratch this card. But I like the idea of comparing hands and having something happen as a result.

Sheriff: Haha, that's a nice interaction. I like it. Although it does create the possibility for politics, which is bad. (It's worse politics than thief.)

Is it any worse than Jester? Yeah, it probably is. Would probably need a change to make it work, but I thought the base concept was neat.

Neighboring Village: Man, that's harsh. Maybe the gaining should be optional?

Another good idea.

Maid: haha, the ultimate engine enabler. I mean, this card is fucking amazing when it's good and it's useless in big money. I kind of think it's just too good.

I think you are right. I really like the "Discard all cards that are not X (especially Actions)" concept and this was my attempt to make it work. I think it is likely there is something that would work, but this probably isn't it.

Gem: cool. I like cards that promote not buying them a lot. This one looses power when you have multiple. I would turn it around, btw: +$$1 and when it's the fist you play: +$2.

I thought about your suggestion but thought maybe it should cost $4 in that case? But felt that a Gold, even if just bought once, would be too good for $4.

Posting this for those of you who like to view fan cards and critique them. Right now I am not planning on printing these cards out, although I might try my hand at the sandbox virtual system someday.

Let me know what you think about any of these. Apologies if any of these ideas have already been put forward by others. I have stolen a couple of slight attributes from other fancards, but this is mostly just what I have thought of during boring Staff Meetings.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Accountability

As one who was thinking about joining the league I can now say that I will not be.

Not because of Adam's post, or even what he said or implied about the mods.

Instead it has been the reactions. There seems to be a belief that all is fine and well on this forum. After seeing this and other similarly toned threads i have to say that statement isnt true. I have never been a very active poster on this forum but I can't imagine being more active after this. I am personally disgusted and repelled by the virtriole and aggression. No one is making me stay, certainly, but if the best argument you have is "if you don't like it then leave" then I think some serious levels of introspection are needed.

I'll keep coming for the updates on new expansions and online implementation, but really board game geek is better for that.

If we want to go with Re- words I think the following would work:

Regent - Probably my favorite and similar to Fount of Honor that cares about nobility and has power to move people up in the world, but isn't that powerful. Although not a true "Re-word" like re-model or re-make.
Reformer (Reformist) -
Reassign -
Refine (Refiner) -
Recruit (Recruiter) -

18
Fount of Honour

Cares a lot about nobility (green cards) and has the ability to promote and advance (trash for benefit)

If they don't end up being Dominion cards they could make for great fan card art.

I heard-- didn't see--that one of these cards was in fact used and shown last night. I would speculate that the others on that website will be used as well!

For the sake of completeness here are the logs and brief summary.

Igmen 35; perd 30 Boarder Village, Schemes and Margraves into Silk Roads. I grab Goons for 9 extra VP.

Igmen 45; perd 37 Witch with Trader and then Tunnels late. I have two Witches, he has Witch/Jester.

perd 47; Igmen 40 King's Court, Grand Market, Embassy, Highway and Stables all around with Silk Road as a temptation. We both bite, him for 2 on turn 10, me for 4 on turn 12. I think I would have been better off buying two and getting another KC.

perd 30; Igmen 30 I make a fun Nomad Camp buy early to get into Highways early but make a huge mistake of buying Peddlers instead of Highways. Perd ends up forcing the tie.

Igmen 51; perd 22. Perd's 5/2 hurts in Ambassador game. If I were him I would have bought Ambassador with the $5 but that is a hard situation to be in.

perd 46; Igmen 33. Both Smithy/Silver start, I have a dumb moment and get Tribute when I know that Boarder Villages are going to be all over his deck along with other actions, so that ends up being useless. perd finishes out well.

Igmen 40; perd 20. Witch game with Cartographers and Crossroads being key cards bought. A random Venture purchase ends up being key in sifting through curses and greens.

GokoDom / Re: Kirian's Bracket, Week 5

My quick thoughts:

Round 5: Jorbles v. Ignorantmen
Jorbles wins 4-3 against Ignorantmen

Game 1: Jorbles 39 - ignorantmen 22
His 5/2 opening hurt. I tried for amazing with some +3 card Governors hoping to catch up. But I think it helped him more than it helped me.

Game 2: ignorantmen 76 - Jorbles 50
I don't think I played this perfectly, although I liked my Masq/Loan opening, but I will take a win that was mostly based off first player advantage and better opening after the previous game.

Game 3: Jorbles 56 - ignorantmen 44
Turn 14 I bought 2 KC and 2 Provinces. I think a better idea would have been 2 KC a Highway and another Monument, but wasting all that money was too hard to do. Originally I was gunning for a megaturn and I think I could have had it if I hadn't shot myself in the foot. Jorbles was much more patient and it paid off.

Game 4: ignorantmen 31 - Jorbles 46
For me this game was decided when I 1. didn't get a trasher and 2. didn't get a card with a +buy. Trade Route would have sufficed for both. I think turn 5 would have been an ideal time to buy it instead of another FV but I really wanted to get to KC first... but forgot that without a +buy lots of money isn't worth much.

Game 5: ignorantmen 40 - Jorbles 28
I really liked my Royal Seal buy here although I only used it to top deck once the whole game. But that Gold on top made a huge difference. Sab was annoying here, especially since my Monument kept getting trashed. And I didn't turn the Great Halls into Estates... They got turned into a whole lot of nothing.

Game 6: Jorbles 74 - ignorantment 57
Bishop BM wasn't my original strategy but once again I got distracted feeling like I needed to make my money more worth while. I bought Platinum when I should have been buying Banks, which go together with Venture so much better.

Game 7: ignorantmen 80 - Jorbles 61
My Worker's Village buy was planned to be useful. I learned my lesson about not having a +buy on hand. But I never expected it to net me a double colony. I was thinking more platinum/gold early on or something like that. My strategy hinged on me getting more Ghost Ships and then making sure I had enough Shanty Towns to defend against his and to synergize with mine. But yeah... the $22 turn was lucky and was the deciding factor in the game.

Fun games, King's Court is one of my weaker cards and I was really disappointed to not see Goons at all... Sigh...

Thanks to Jorbles for the games and logs.

My quick take:
Thank you ignorantmen! We played with 4 Alchemy cards. Here are the logs.
Mergus 48 vs 36 ignorantmen I didn't anticipate the game going as long as it did so didn't think Pstone would be worth the buy...
Mergus 31 vs 40 ignorantmen Got lucky here I think. Mergus had way more golds than me at the end and drew 4 on his last turn but had no +buy around. My festival +buy payed off turn 16 for buying 2 Duchies rather than get the pentultimate province
Mergus 24 vs 7 ignorantmen This game kind of boggled my head. If anyone wants to tell me how this game got so out of hand please feel free. I felt like I was doing ok and then everything collapsed quick.
Mergus 12 vs 6 ignorantmen I agree the two steward made this game for mergus and I probably should have gone potion into familiar rather than university into witch... But I felt that my witches would be more powerful late game. Mergus agreed as he ended up with way more than me obtaining them even after the curses were gone.
Mergus 37 vs 44 ignorantmen Bishop looked lovely here, especially as a solid counter if for some reason he decided to go Possession. I was thrilled that card didn't come up. It gives me a headache.
Mergus 30 vs 42 ignorantmen University into Vineyards was scary without any plus buys around. University treated me nice though... I ended up with 26 actions cards.
Mergus 46 vs resigned ignorantmen I didn't play well. But this game made me furious. I couldn't believe that I never ever drew my Wharfs! I thought they would work well against Scrying Pool as the turn after effect isn't affected by the attack... But He kept making me discard them. You would think I would have drawn them at least once after turn 7... And I hit $4 way too often. But going this route and ignoring Scrying Pool was a major mistake.

Fun game, but I am glad to get Alchemy out of the way and we can move onto my favorite three sets!
