Tournaments and Events / 2020 Dominion Online Championship

The Championship is back!

Each year Shuffle iT hosts a single-elimination tournament to determine the best online 2-player dominion player, where the players fight for a 1000€ prize pool. This year, the tournament will start September 14th and continue until November.

This year's tournament will be hosted on the Shuffle iT discord: https://discord.gg/JqYVcpm, where all information regarding rules and logistics can be found in the #welcome channel. To sign up, fill out the signup form found in the Shuffle iT #sign-up channel, which also contains the list of players who have currently registered. Signups for a guaranteed spot will close September 8th, 2020.

Your tournament mods are: Ingix, volfied, Gazbag, alibby1152, Lemonspawn, eh1414, amoffett11, and truffles.
You can find us all by joining the discord, and can message any of us with any questions there.  You can also feel free to ask any questions here in this thread, and I and the team will do our best to answer them quickly.

Tournaments and Events / Dominion World Cup 2020: Sign-Ups Close Tomorrow!

Hi Everyone!  We are excited to once again be holding the Dominion World Cup. 

You can find the form to sign up for the 2020 Dominion World Cup here:  https://forms.gle/9zAfCv3Yzcjbq6ZC8

You will need to include your dominion.games username and the country you will be representing.  You can choose either your country of birth or your country of residence / citizenship.  In order to participate in the tournament, you will need to play one match a week from January 22 for up to 6 weeks afterwards.

You will also need a Discord ID; the Dominion World Cup has its own Discord server, which will be the tournament hub for match announcements, channels exclusive to each team, and any and all World Cup discussion.  Once you’ve signed up, one of the World Cup organizers / moderators will give you your team role so you can be added to your team channel (this might not happen right away).

Teams are made up of four or more players (plus alternates if they are available).  If a country does not have four or more players, there may be opportunities for players to form a team from another country who is short players, if there is space in the tournament for more teams.  Likewise, a country with 8 or more sign-ups may be eligible to form a second team, if there is space in the tournament for more teams.

New: Thanks to an anonymous sponsor, members of the winning team of the World Cup this year will receive a T-shirt reading "2020 Dominion World Cup Champions"! This could include their team flag and their team members' names.  For larger teams, t-shirts may be limited to 6 players, depending on costs.

Villa was a factor in every game, Mountain Pass was only bid on once (bid was 13).  One game with Colonies, one pileout, a couple resignations before Provinces

Only in one game (Game 4) Castles were a factor, although in one other game they probably should've been bought.  In two games Fountain was a thing.

I don't really have Game reports for this one, Dominate was a factor in every match (although sometimes we resigned before we got there, but every board we were building towards it and it was possible/reasonable to get there).  Keep was less important, although sometimes it was a factor in maneuvering.

The final tiebreaking match between Germany and USA will take place Wednesday March 28, at 1800 UTC.  Stay tuned for information about the stream/commentators (though I expect the game will be streamed at twitch.tv/dominionstreams)

As per the rules, both teams have selected one player to represent them in a best of 5 match.  Each player will start two games, and if a 5th game is necessary, Player two can win the match by tieing the 5th game (you can see the full rules on the rules thread).

Because we only have 10 fully formed teams with 4 players, and not enough overall sign-ups to have a 16 team tournament, we are going to go with 12. 

However, there will be two other teams to bring the total to 12.  After some discussion and looking at the players we have left over, we decided the fairest way to give everyone an opportunity to play was to create two "Refugee" teams; two teams made up of the players who either were not selected for their country's team, or are in a country that did not find enough players. 

To create these two teams, we're going to take the 12 players with the highest ratings, and divide them 1,4,5,8,9,12 and 2,3,6,7,10,11; each team will have a Team Captain and two alternates.  Our original plan to find teams by some combination of locality and the highest ratings does not make sense given the players that we have, so this seemed like the best way to proceed.
