Maybe this is a little heretical, but anyway:
Everybody assumes, sea hag is superior to marauder. If there is sea hag, but no strong trashers around, it's probably THE example of a slog game. From my experience, it's most effective to buy money if you can.
In a game with marauder and sea hag, it seems like everybody would start sea hag (v.s.). Would it make sense to start marauder (and pick up sea hag on the 2nd shuffle? This is not backed up by any sims or anything, it just came to my mind that getting those spoils might enable you to get golds more easily than your opponent. As ruins are really bad, their effects just little shenanigan, an early gold may compensate for a 3-7 loss in curses (you'll probably win the ruins split, though).

I've not had the opportunity to test it (only just got round to picking up Seaside and haven't coughed up for anything except DA on goko yet) but I've been wondering whether strong trashing could be another good reason to go marauder over sea hag - if the junk isn't going to be in your deck by the end of the game then the point difference is irrelevant and ruins become almost as bad as curses, and marauder can provide the start-up cash a trashed down deck needs to begin building up again without having to add in silvers or other unwanted extra cards.

Train would take me ~5 hours apparently. Luckily I could drive it in 2. I could get free entry to the expo by doing a bit of volunteering but I think the price of hotels is going to stop me from doing this. Anyone know of any bargains?

Birmingham airport Travelodge seems to have rooms for £20-25 over Games Expo weekend at the moment, probably the closest cheap option.

Doh, just re-read it and its a tournament that features several different games as rounds.

I believe you can enter the different game tournaments seperately but there's also a competition for the overall best performer. The real issue for me is that it starts at 10am (registration 9.45), on a Sunday, in a location which is apparently 20 mins walk from the nearest train station, which would already take me 2 trains and probably an hour to get to - and I live in Birmingham!

I'd love to give some competitive dominion a go, but not sure I can face getting up that early. I will definitely be at the Games Expo at some point tho and would be up for some non-tournament games even if I don't make the competition.

Woo, after months of lurking I finally have something to contribute and create an account for:

Throne/Chapel opening on a Poor House board. Pretty sure it's better than opening PH/chapel because you're guaranteed to have enough cash for a PH on the first shuffle, whereas you could fail to hit 4  if PH/chapel collide and 2+ estates are in the other hand.

I wonder how well that would work as an overall strategy, to open Throne/Chapel or Remake/Poorhouse and then rush Thrones and Poor Houses, switching to green when you have enough of each and have trashed down your other cards. Anyone with DA experience want to chime in with whether this would work or be a huge trap?

It could work with TR/steward opening as well, and from limited experience vs bots on Goko the chapel version seems pretty fast. Remake would probably leave you with too many PHs, you want a few balanced with TRs rather than hordes of them
