Goko Dominion Online / Re: Google + Walled Village
« on: September 19, 2012, 10:35:22 am »
The more I think about this, the less I like it.  I don't care if it's Goko or Google doing it; the point is that there will not be equal access to the cards--which is equivalent, in my opinion, to not having all cards available (for purchase) to all people.  People who don't have or don't want a Google account--which, as noted above, can't be anonymous any longer--cannot get the Walled Village card.  This breaks tournament play (even more).

And it's just plain silly.

And it saddens me to realize we're going to lose so many good players from the online community because of things like this, as well as the big issues.

This quote. I had several friends who played on Isotropic fairly frequently. Now they're all like "fuck this game" just because of all the copyright bullshit and the shittiness of goko. Things like this only make them even more inclined to just give up on Dominion. I'm not happy about it and I've tried to convince them to stick with this game but I've had no success. I imagine this isn't just a problem that I've had to deal with. Eventually, I'm going to join them as well, but hopefully something will come in the future to change our minds.

When you start greening, you have one less green card that would otherwise clog your deck.

What I found with Shelters is that often they're a nice little upgrade over your Estates, but they're not spectacular.

In the end the Shelters don't really make that much of a difference.
If you have devised a good strategy for a certain board, chances are it would've worked without Shelters anyway. It's not like: Wow, I have Shelters, I'm going to do something completely different!

There are some decisions, but they're so marginal that you're really talking about adding maybe 1 percent of winning chances. And in a single game, random shuffle luck is going to be more of a factor than when you're going to trash your Hovel.

I would have liked to see some other cards in their place in the box.

They're cute, just not game warping, and why would they be? Of all the "If you play with X cards from this expansion, there's an 1 in X% chance of playing with this" Colonies are obviously the most important.

Necropolis may make you think "hey, I can open double terminal now!", but you could already do that without Shelters and the risk of collision with non-drawers was still acceptable. Now, if you open double Swindler for instance, you need to have Necropolis in hand AND the two Swindlers to reap any benefits. And Swindler is worse with Shelters, since hitting an opponent's Shelter is way too good for them.

In conclusion I'm underwhelmed by Shelters. You can't expect $1 cards to work wonders, but to me it's unnecessary "cuteness" which Dark Ages has a tendency to bring into the game.

Another Alt VP card is something I would have liked more.

This. I like this.

Out of curiosity, is there an amount of money that could be raised and given to Jay that would convince him to let isotropic remain available? I had thought that perhaps the switch to Goko wouldn't be so bad after all, once they implemented some promised features, but now my trust for them is tanking hard. A wonderful community that I love is being destroyed and replaced by a pile of junk patched together by incompetent clowns, and it is worth quite a bit to me to save it.

I assume that there are contracts and such that would make any such scheme completely unworkable, but I'd still like to know what kind of cash it would take. If we did a kickstarter-esque fundraiser and got, say, $20k, would we be even a little bit close? I'm sure that's not nearly the expected value of online Dominion as a whole, but presumably lots of people will still prefer the shinier and oficialer client and give them money, while the more diehard isotropic fans will have paid up front for our beloved interface, game logs, and Councilroom statistics.

I'd personally be in for a thousand dollars if there were a chance of this becoming a reality. I'm only recently out of college and making fairly decent money, and I don't really spend it on all that much. It would be a big hit, but if I was actually instrumental in saving Isotropic, it would be worth every penny.

Dude, not completely unreasonable.

Dominion Isotropic / Re: Dougz - I would like to send you money
« on: August 19, 2012, 06:01:00 am »
The awkward flipside to that argument is how much would we care about dominion without isotropic?  Yes, Isotropic is the reason I am a bit underwhelmed by Goko, but Isotropic's also the reason I give a Scout about Dominion in the first place.  Had I not stumbled across Iso, Dominion would still be that pretty fun game I played once and would kinda like to play more but lol fifty bucks.  I'm not really sure what I am getting at, though.

(I am still PROBABLY going to throw some money at Goko if they can get themselves together)

I agree. Me and a few of my friends discovered Dominion at college and the only reason we ever seriously got into the game and the community was through isotropic. Without it I think pretty much all of us are just done with this game other than IRL with the base set and Prosperity that we have.

But I still will throw some money at Dougz though.

Maybe part of the problem is that I am logged in and realize the game will affect my rating...

Well that's why you should never sign in while high haha although I think me and my friend once beat Obi Wan Bonogi while blazing.

Yo me (The Great Wang) and FiveHundo500 aren't sure exactly what site we should be signed into. Is it just Isotropic?
