Did this challenge ever get completed?

Solo Challenges / Re: My fourth solo challenge: Banker

I tried this challenge today and found it wasn't very fun.  The problem is that getting a high value for bank doesn't really have much of a strategy without a constraint on the number of turns.  So it really comes down to prolonging the game to where you can get get lucky enough to have the cards line up on the right turn.

I would recommend changing the scoring to either the highest value in a set number of turns or some formula using value of bank and number of turns. Also I would recommend some kind of ending condition so you have to balance ending the game and scoring highly on bank.

I did this challenge a while ago and got 44 turns, but unfortunately I didn't save the log.  So I did it again today and got 46.

Agreed with Thisisnotasmile.

Having a defined kingdom actually teaches you how to play the game better, learning the strengths and weakness of each card and discovering unique ways that they interact.  However, making your own kingdom is all about creating an ideal set-up which will never happen in real life and the end result is more often than not, how can I best use king's court.

I like having the score differential posted at the end of each turn.  It allows me to get a feel for what stage the game is at without having to keep track in my head or waiting for an update.

My bad in missing the turn 3 buy.  I didn't think to look in the trash as I wouldn't have expected you to trash it.

I'm agreed with Geronimoo, but still useful to learn from in case you have a kingdom which lends itself more to managing the shuffle luck (chapel, warehouse etc.)

I'm curious what other situations (if any) would benefit from a delayed cursing attack though.  Perhaps engine games where you wait till they pass the point of no return before gumming it up.  Though cursers are very rarely ignored, so maybe that situation never comes up.

Really interesting game.

Hard to know if this strategy is reliable as it obviously takes some shuffle luck to draw your throne room and familiar together.

The fact that it takes longer to get the curses into your deck with familiar may actually be better than using a faster curser against jack.  My reasoning would be that a jack strategy requires building up an economy with lots of silvers and coppers, meaning you need to draw a bunch of them to buy provinces, curses are going to especially hurt this kind of deck by adding so many dead cards.  Jack normally deals pretty well with this because it can trash curses almost as fast as they come in, however delayed cursing will mean that your deck is thicker so you can play the jack less often to counter.  Obviously the fact that he was giving multiple curses per turn makes this even worse.  Also I'm surprised you never ended up buying a second jack.

Couple notes reading through the logs

Rising Jaguar's log shows 13 turns, so not sure if he submitted the wrong one?

I thought the challenge was that we needed to have exactly 6 provinces in our deck at the end of the game.  This was strategic in that you couldn't do everything in one big turn as you needed to be able to chapel some provinces the following turn. I noticed that Galzria had 8 provinces and jonts26 had 7 at the end of the game, though it looks like jonts26 had a chapel and province in hand on turn 12 so he could have easily trashed it.  But maybe I just misunderstood the rules.

Obvious example which has been discussed to death on this forum is the score.  There is no way to make sure your opponent isn't writing down his score even if the point counter isn't available.  So the strategy of keeping track of the score is basically gone from the online game, especially in tournaments.

Well played.  I had a very similar strategy, but looks like I wasted too many early turns on trade routing everything.

Quick commentary on my solution.  My first tries ended up quite a bit higher, but these two tricks helped me alot.

1. It is pretty well established (councilroom) that in a standard game chapel after turn 2 is much less effective.  However, these puzzles are not standard games and not being able to trash the estates really changes how the card works.  In this case you need to establish a bit of an economy before you thin your deck, otherwise it takes much longer to get your buying power up to provinces with all those green cards in the way.  (I will admit that I made sure that I got a gold on turn 3 or 4 and if not I would just restart.  I really didn't want to have too many silvers)

2. It is important to buy one hamlet early, while you are still thinning your deck, so that you can take advantage of the plus buys to get enough crossroads and additional hamlets in your deck on your none province buying turns later on.

This challenge was really tough as every decision you make can have a big difference in your score.  I expect there to be a huge range of scores and the top two may not be particularily close to each other.

Well I don't know if I am actually understanding the challenge properly but my guess would be . . .

Masquerade.  In that each player is passing a card simultaneously.

Very interesting how many different ways people went with their solutions.

I would think that the wharf engine would be quite a bit more reliable (consistently clearing 3 piles quickly) than the remodelling method, but there is more opportunity to take advantage of good shuffle luck when remodelling.  The key buys for me were the council rooms so I could draw my remodels and play as many of them as possible every turn.

Been following dominionstrategy.com since the summer, but haven't felt the need to post anything till now.  I don't play against opponents on isotropic, but I play a lot of solitaire games at work to optimize my strategies for real life games.

I knew I needed to get the coppers and estates out of my deck so I could pair up my tournaments with provinces, but I didn't want to sacrifice the buying power I needed for multiple province turns.  So remaking them into villages to power up diadem seemed to be the best way to go.

Excellent challenge. I quite enjoyed it.
