Well, after 5 and a half years, I made it to 100 days. It's been a good time here.

Did you ever consider or playtest a complex number of victory cards in the piles?

Yes, 8 is a complex number.

How is Inheriting Baron like Delve?

Baron + Estate is like Silver + Silver. So buying an Estate after Inheriting Baron is like buying a Silver for $2 -- Delve.

yea and baron and delve both give you +buy

Today is my birthday and I realized that I have been a member of this forum for more than a quarter of my life which is kind of weird.

The given sum is the number of ways to color a group of n points with red, green, and blue such that at most one point is colored red (think of each term as selecting k points to color green, and then choosing either one of those k points or no point to be red, and coloring the rest blue).

The number of ways to color points in that fashion is 2^(n-1) * n + 2^n = 2^(n-1) * (n + 2) as navical computed.
The first term is the number of ways if there is a red point, and the second term is the number of ways if there is no red point.

Thanks a lot for making this tool!
Just fyi, it looks like something went wrong with the leaderboard today and a lot of players are missing.

Edit: Seems this is fixed with today's leaderboard update. Must have been a fluke.

Courtyard + Farming Village is pretty good. Normally courtyard is pretty weak draw but if you can topdeck a green or a curse and then play farming village it's almost as good as smithy.

The Iso art from the forum gallery is the only way to get a bigger avatar than what e.g. I have.

Darn, thanks for the info.

Edit: it did not work right
Edit2: well small is better than smashed into a square but I can see MicQ succeeded in something a little larger

Dominion Online at Shuffle iT / Re: Loading old games
« on: August 13, 2017, 05:17:42 pm »
Is there a way to load and old game and just replay it? Like watch all the decisions the players made without making any decisions yourself?

I can't find a way to do it, but it seems like this feature is almost implemented. Is it planned?

My prediction is that boons and hexes will be one shot actions. Boon will be something like a village or laboratory that also says "return this to the boon pile". Hex might just be "return this to the hex pile", maybe with a clause to prevent trashing it to be extra nasty.

Sweet. I have been playing a ton. I actually already have access to every expansion except for dark ages and guilds (and I get a decent amount of play with those online). Is dominion.games the best site for online play? I win most games I play on there, and I was wondering if there was a website for higher elo play.

You could try the league for some more consistent quality games maybe.

I asked some other people with experience with contest math and they solved it pretty quickly. There are   5  triangles.

A hint that should help unblock things: Given any triangle with side lengths a, b, c, you can find positive x, y, z such that a = x+y, b = y+z, and c = x+z. Try working in (x,y,z) space instead.

Yea, that's how I did it.

A fun (and tricky) problem I came up with at work about triangles is:

How many triangles satisfy the following properties:
1. All of the side lengths are integers.
2. The area of the triangle is equal to its perimeter.

Is there any meta advice which mathy people here would give about how to increase efficiency in solving problems? Anything you've learned over time? E.g. I think I spend too little time thinking broadly and too much following the first approach I've found. Stuff like that.

My thoughts:

It is important to reflect after either solving a difficult problem or looking at the solution. Figure out the motivation for the solution, and try to find a framework to view the problem from that makes the solution obvious or natural. When you do lots of problems, you can begin to see when similar frameworks can cause solutions to fall out of problems that might look very different at first.

Also, just do lots of problems.

Most of my experience comes from math olympiad, here are some links from people on solving math olympiad problems (in a broad sense):
https://hcmop.wordpress.com/2012/03/23/how-to-approach-an-olympiad-problem-by-ho-jun-wei/
https://usamo.wordpress.com/ (couldn't find a specific post that really addressed what you are talking about (although it probably exists) but maybe you will find some things interesting.

board game with dexterity.

Over Christmas, I was a friend's place for dinner, with me, friend, and friend-of-friend.  After eating, we decided to play Jenga.  Got out the game, set it all up, friend goes and removes a piece; I go and remove a piece.  Then friend-of-friend very slowly and very obviously brings the entire tower crashing down on their first move.  It was like watching a train wreck in slow motion.  We put the game away and never spoke of it again.

Jenga is a great game. It's especially fun to remove the third piece of a layer.

On a related note, I just tried playing overlord as band of misfits on ShIT. This led to the overlord staying in play forever. Is this correct behavior, and why?

Variants and Fan Cards / Re: Cost this Card: Bribe
« on: January 19, 2017, 03:00:39 am »
Bribe has now been completely overhauled into a Bridge variant.

I think it's notable that you only need to play 4 bribes to be able to empty the provinces. That's a lot easier than ~7 bridges.
