How do you define "registered user?"  is that the red dot next to their name?

I don't know, I played probably about 15 games yesterday and lost 11, many to players with no rankings.  I expected my rating to decrease by -5 at least, so it does seem like the actual increase or decrease is probably +/- 0.5 maybe per game (irregardless of player skill).  I've also tried to play Hideyoshi multiple times but he seems to have stopped trying to play top ranked players after the ranking system came out.

OK I am just looking at the data and i clearly played 24 games.  I am an innovation nut what can i say.

It would be nice to get a result at the end of the game telling you how much your rating increased / decreased (just a number that told you what the net on that game alone was, not necessarily a running tally).

in the base set if i get code of laws i would agree it is kind of crappy.  However, if I get it in the expansion i am literally jumping for joy.  It is that good!  Like BitTorrent was saying, at least a third of the cards in age 1 have 2+ castles (the other 2 reds, domestication, mysticism, masonry).  Plus you might think stealing sailing from their hand to your score pile is bad, but I'd rather have sailing in my score pile than their hand!  Oars also has the "perfect splay" placements, where you can get a castle splayed left, and a castle and a crown (crowns are hard to come by in red!) splayed right.  No, I would not say oars is useless, agriculture seems more useless at the start.  With pottery you can just keep continuously spamming it, but agriculture requires a hand replenishment.  However, if I have agriculture in my hand, I usually meld it first just to defend against clothing, so it does have that going for it.

did you know you can share oars to get 2 cards.  True story!

But what if you have 5 cards in hand, 5 cards in the forecast, 3 stacks with 2-3 echoes each?  Just thinking / executing all that would take at least a minute.  But I suppose that is why you prefer base theory!

But perfume, foiling mathematicians since 23BC!

There is some degree of luck (as you might expect in any card game), but there are so many game changing cards (especially if you add echoes) that I usually never feel completely overmatched.  I think they added a lot of cards in echoes with the power cards in the base in mind.

Here are a few off the top of my head:
scissors: annoyed with paper, just score it off their board, you can even share it and they'll be forced to score their own paper!
katana / kobuksun, another answer to fermenting / machinery in case you missed out on engineering / gunpowder
octant: I believe this is the one that steals leaves, so reformation / fermenting / machinery again
perfume: tired of your opponent advancing to age 8 while you are still in 3, well just steal their highest tech cards from under their nose!
ice skates: another nice "troll" card, the return your highest card is NOT optional!

Just out of curiosity.

10 seconds per move?  I feel like it takes just that long to execute all the echoes sometimes haha, let alone thinking about what to do!  But maybe most of you guys play base.  In that case, I could see every move taking less time.

I personally don't mind how long you take to think, I like to think a lot too.  To me it's like the difference between blitz and standard chess, the games are much less sloppy when played with a longer time control.  However, if we want to actually finish the tournament in a day or two, I'd probably say we need to enforce ~30 minute time limit on the games.  15 though I agree is kind of ridiculous, even I would feel rushed and I feel like I generally play pretty quickly.

I think 4-8 player swiss would be good.  I in fact have a friend who used to be a Chess TD or TO so he knows the protocol.  I think it would be a fun weekend thing, you know maybe ~6GMT to try to accommodate as many people as possible.  Of course we would need to exchange time zones beforehand, so if we were all on EST for instance, we could just pick a time that was best for everyone.

I was just made aware of this board by theory today.  I saw someone else wanted to start a tournament but it kind of died.  Can we start a new one?  I'd be interested!
