WOW! Just had a GREAT gamenight at a friends place last night. We were playing Game Of Thrones (first edition) and the game ended earlier than expected. These guys typically play heavily thematic RPG inspired stuff, so imagine my surprise when the host pulled out Dominion and Intrigue (he didn't own any other expansions). We played six rounds and I loved it. I love playing Dominion on Goko but this was FAR more fun. Now I'm really happy that I ordered the three expansions because these guys were definitely into it.

I also discovered that I'm not nearly as good as I thought I was. These guys had very little experience with Dominion and would gladly experiment with Scout/Spy/Chancellor and questioned why I would want to trash Estates in the early game. But they VERY quickly caught on and I only won 3 out of the 6 games (we played first a couple of rounds of 4 player dominion, and then played 3 player for the remaining 4 games after one guy left) - which was cool since it would have been less fun if I had been clearly superior. (but still, it hurt my ego slightly that I'm obviously still pretty bad at the game).

Are the base cards available from your supplier?  If so, you can get those for less than an expansion and use them to split up into two games.
True. Don't know why I didn't think of that. Well, the order is done now. Maybe next time...

Played some more on my laptop. Still no lagging. Amazing.

However, I don't want to play on my laptop, I want to play on my stationary and it annoys me that I can't figure out why it lags.

My stationary has a faster CPU than my laptop.

My stationary has a shitty Radeon HD 5450 GPU (I'm not a PC gamer), but my laptop has onboard graphics, which ought to be even shittier.

Browser versions?
Chrome - totally up to date. Also tried with Firefox, Explorer and Opera. I have safely concluded that the browser is not the issue.

Ahhh. Thanks for the explanation. Isotropic just looked like an "insiders game" where you had to know everything in advance, so I went with Goko.

Excuse me for being a noob - but don't you have to know what the cards do at Isotropic? Or is there any way to see what the cards do?

Anyway, that's what I figured, so I only play at Goko.

Ended up ordering Seaside, Prosperity and Dark Ages this round. In the end Intrigue was out of stock, so that made the choice between that and Seaside easy. I was a bit gutted though, since I figured that with Intrigue I could bring both that and the base game to game nights and divide people up in two groups both playing Dominion.

Still want Intrigue, Hinterlands, Cornucopia and Alchemy (and Guilds), but I'll wait with those until I for sure know that I have people around who wants to play it.

Mine lags in chrome, but I have an old version, .24 I think the later versions solve this though
Mine lags? But the other cards work fine?
My PC!  :D

I run the latest version of Chrome and it still lags.

However, I just discovered that there's no lagging on my laptop I use for work. So maybe the issue really is the graphics card on my stationary PC. Crazy.

This is very interesting. When can we expect part 5?

136
Some good points raised. I should probably point out that I do potentially have people to play with IRL, I'm just not yet sure whether they'd be into it.

What I've decided so far is that I'm definitely going to order Prosperity and Dark Ages and at least one of either Seaside or Intrigue. Whether I order the remaining right now or wait for later is undecided.

4. Get a cheap 3000/5000 count card box until you find a better storage solution. There's hundreds of ideas out there.
Yes, but then what about all of those nice boxes!

I know I'm being silly, but I honestly don't like the idea of buying a bunch of games and then throwing out the boxes. :)

Forgot to mention that I'm part of a danish group buy at boardgameguru, so that's why I HAVE to order something now. Otherwise, I'd probably wait a bit.

My wife loaths games. I can't even get her to try anything. My hope is that when she sees me playing with our daughter then MAYBE she'll think it looks interesting. Not getting my hopes up though.

Point taken about my daughter. The fact that she doesn't know english is a setback though - she has to memorize what all the cards do.

Dominion General Discussion / Thinking of buying every expansion at once
« on: February 26, 2013, 01:32:49 pm »
Found Goko a month ago. Loved it! Bought the physical base game. Love looking at the cards! Bought the full Goko expansion. Loved it even more. Best game ever, mate! Will order a bunch of games on thursday from boardgameguru in the UK. Considers ordering every physical expansion at once now that I'm at it.

Pros:
1) I get all the expansions at once! Hooray!!
2) I don't have to mull over which expansions to get first endlessly. At Goko I'm just playing with all the expansions, so I'm not really all that aware which cards belongs to which expansion. I have some idea about Intrigue, Seaside, Prosperity and Dark Ages, because I have played a bit of the adventures. Of those I probably like Dark Ages and Prosperity the best, but hey, I want them all.
3) It is overall cheaper to order them all at once rather than one by one or a few at a time.
4) I support the game!
5) I get some nice looking boxes (needed a fifth pro for the list).

Cons:
1) I'm unsure whether I actually have anybody to play Dominion with IRL (this is a major con). I have introduced the base game to my 7-year old daughter, but it's gonna be years before she can play properly, I suspect.
2) It's expensive (I live in Denmark, not the US or Germany and I'm not buying the german language ones).
3) The wife is not going to understand.
4) We have very limited shelf space at home (see point 3 again).
5) Due to point 3, point 4 and point 5 doing this will limit the number of other games I could buy.

Thoughts?

Played two games against humans this evening for the first time. Loads of lagging again. Major annoyance.

At first I thought this was satire referencing RL play. I laughed. XD
;D yeah, I see how it could be read like that.  :)

Those of you with no lagging, are you solely playing against other humans or are you also playing against AI opponents? I'm thinking that maybe the problem only occurs against AI opponents?

Weird. I'm using chrome too and it lags so much that I have not wanted to play anybody online. I've only been playing AI opponents. Basically every other turn or so the board will freeze up for 5-10 seconds or so and then resume. And I've tried this on several computers using Chrome, Firefox and Explorer.

Love Goko except for the constant lagging and occasional crashes.

Is Goko running smoothly (no lagging) for anyone?

No lag for me. I do experience the occassional crash though.
No lagging, really? What I wouldn't give for that. Which browser are you using?

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Interview with Donald X.
« on: February 25, 2013, 02:39:11 am »
Hello Donald X,

I’m new to Dominion and board gaming in general. I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your amazing work.  :) Dominion is my favourite game. I love it so much that just yesterday I started teaching it to my 7-year old daughter despite the fact that she doesn’t understand english, so she has to memorize what the cards do (I’ve only used some of the simpler base set cards so far though). Despite this, she loves it. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to pursuade my game-loathing wife to play it yet.
I read through this entire thread so I’m fairly confident that I’m not repeating questions from earlier in the thread. If I missed something, I apologize. :D

1) According to the BGG ratings, Prosperity is the most universally loved expansion. Have you got any thoughts on why that is so? Do you think it is fair or do you think the set is overrated?

2) Is there any expansion you feel is underrated - not getting properly recognized for its qualities?

3) How did you feel about Kingdom Builder winning Spiel Des Jahres? (sorry for the blatant attempt at sports ”journalism” here).

4) Which of your games would you most recommend that one tried to introduce non-gaming friends to?

5) Do you watch the video reviews of your games (or other games for that matter) posted on BGG? If so, do you have any favourite video reviewers?

6) Idea: On the 10 year anniversary of Dominion, Rio Grande Games puts out an anniversary edition ”complete Dominion” with the base set and every expansion in one nice looking box at an affordable price. Good idea or bad idea?

7) Idea #2: On the 10 year anniversary of Dominion, Rio Grande Games wants you to compile a ”definitive Dominion” set comprising a number of ”essential” kingdom cards (could be 25, could be 50, could be 100). Do you agree to this? (don’t worry, I won’t ask you which cards you’d pick). Do you think it is a good idea or a bad idea?

Sorry for the large amount of questions.  :D
